We are planning a night to celebrate Webster County 4-Her’s

achievements for the 2019-2020 4-H year on Sunday, October

18th. We will be handing out plaques and rosettes from this

year’s county fair, Achievement Application winners, Dia-

mond Clover winners, 10 year 4-H member, and much more!

Meal is to begin at 5:30 pm.

Attention 4-Hers:

If you have not done so, please send a thank you to the livestock

buyers for purchasing your animal(s). Any type of “thank you” is

greatly appreciated to them, whether it be a card, certificate, or

simply just a thank you in person!

Webster County 4-H After School Program

There is no 4-H after school for the fall of 2020. This includes

Blue Hill, Red Cloud, and Silver Lake Public Schools.

State Fair Static Exhibitors

We still have state fair exhibits at the office. Please pick those up ASAP

as we will need to make room for getting ready for achievement night!

Fall Upgrade Livestock Judging Contest There will be a Fall Upgrade Livestock Judging Contest in Grand Island on Oc-

tober 4th. The contest will consist of four divisions: Senior College, Junior Col-

lege Sophomores, Junior College Freshman, and high school 4-H/FFA contest-

ants. Please contact the extension office for more information.

The week of October 4th-10th is National 4-H Week! Webster County will be cele-

brating by having wear your 4-h shirt on October 7th. We will kick off a “goose

chase” beginning October 5th through the Saturday October 17th with winners an-

nounced at our achievement celebration. Watch your email on October 5th to get

the code to join. We are also doing a 4-H Youth and Volunteer spotlight through-

out the week! We will highlight those individuals by doing a spotlight on them

during the week on our Facebook page! Highlight youth and Volunteer nomina-

tions end throughout the week. Please send us your nominations for a 4-Her in

Webster County, or a volunteer and a write up about them to showcase them dur-

ing 4-H Week!!

The 2020 4-H STEM Chal-lenge, Mars Base Camp, will guide youth through a manned mission to Mars. 2020 Make it With Wool Contest

Enter the Make It With Wool Contest! The object of the contest is to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics and yarns; to encourage personal creations in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning and weaving of wool fabrics and yarns; and to recognize creative skills.

The 2020 State Make It With Wool Contest will be November 21 at the Dawson County Extension Office in Lexington, NE beginning at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to the public Fashion Show at 1:00 p.m.

The divisions determined by age as of January 1, 2020 (national rule), are as follows: Preteen – age 12 and under, Junior – age 13 to 16, Senior – age 17 to 24, Adult – age 25 and over, and Made For Others.

The entry form, state brochure and national wool contest guidelines are posted on the website: https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/dawson/. Entry forms, fees, wool samples and wool testing fees are due October 15, 2020 to Andrea Nisley. The fabrics/yarns used for the wool contest must be 100% wool or wool blend (minimum 60% wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used. Specialty wool fibers include alpaca, angora, camel, cashmere, llama, mohair, and vicuna.

Earlier this year, the 2019 state contest winners competed at the 2020 National Contest in Scottsdale, Arizona where Saidi Ringenberg of Lexington placed in the top ten in the Junior Division and Arlene Soria of Kearney also placed in the top ten in the Senior Division.

The National Make It With Wool Contest also has a Fashion Design Competition for college students who are currently enrolled in a college-level fashion or apparel design program. Entry deadline is November 1 for Fashion Design Competition. Information, criteria, how to enter and deadline information is given on the Nation-al Make It With Wool website.

The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) is hosting 3 virtual meat judging contests this fall for 4-H stu-dents. Registration for each contest is required with a cost of $25/student. Any number of students can partici-pate, with the top 3 individual scores counting toward the county “team” score. There is no pre-qualification necessary as these contests are open to all students.

From Oct. 1 to Oct. 18, you can apply to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for free. Nebraska will waive the $45 application fee for all resident first-time freshmen and transfer students who wish to apply for the Fall 2021 term. This year, we know that it may be difficult for you to take the ACT or SAT because of public health concerns. Attention Seniors: Currently UNL is waiving the application fee from October 1st to October 18th. If you create the application in UNL, and share it to other University campuses, such as UNK or UNO, the fee for UNK and UNO are waived as well. You must apply within UNL system to get all University of Nebraska system fees waived. This is from Oct 1st to Oct 18th only. If you have questions, please reach out to Beth.

2020 4-H Foundation Trail Ride:

This year’s 4-H Foundation Trail Ride will be held on October 2-4, 2020. Join us for an enjoyable, guided ride through the scenic Nebraska National Forest near Halsey. Enjoy delicious meals, family activities, and great entertainment. All proceeds support the Nebraska 4-H camp programs. To reg-ister, mail the completed registration form to the Nebraska 4-H Foundation, , PO Box 4500, Lincoln, NE 68504. The registration fee is $50 per adult and $25 per youth if postmarked before September 20. After September 20 the registration fee is $60 per adult and $35 per youth. Join us for just the Satur-day night Trail Supper, silent auction and entertain-ment for $20 (included in Trail Ride registration). All events are subject to the local health depart-ment’s Directed Health Measures and may be can-celled. If the event must be cancelled we will issue full refunds to registrants. No refunds will be made if participant is unable to attend.
