Participation in athletics helps develop children’s social and leadership skills, increases confidence and self-esteem, fosters a sense of community, and provides healthy physical activity. These benefits are an important part of prepar-ing our students for high school and beyond. By joining us as a sponsor you can help ensure our pro-grams stay strong and safe. While a participation fee is required of each athlete, the cost does not go much further than paying coach-es, officials and transporta-tion. Team equipment and uniforms are additional expenses. These sponsor-ships helps bridge the ath-letic budget gaps. As partners, we promise to promote your company or organization through the placement of your banner, as well as mention your sup-port in communications with our families. Please check with your tax consultant, as your sponsorship is most likely tax deductible. Our tax ID is 74-2401305.

Meadows Middle Years Program

Approaches to Learning Skills (ATLs)

Approaches to Learning skills are skills that help students “learn how to learn”. “The focus of ATLs is on helping stu-dents to develop the self-knowledge and skills they need to enjoy a lifetime of learning” (ibo.org, From Principles to Practice). ATLs also support the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes.

The role of ATLs in IB: • Cover essential lifetime learner skills (what employers are looking for)

• Both general and discipline-specific

• Support inquiry and unit objectives

• To enrich and deepen the content learning

Over time, ATLs enable students to develop clear understandings of how they learn best as well as to be able to re-flect on and evaluate the effectiveness of their learning.

Art Masterpiece

Hello Parents, My name is Becky Nieto and I am the Art Masterpiece Site Coordinator for Meadows. I need your help! I still need art guides for some fifth and sixth grade Social Studies classrooms. For those who are new to Meadows, or not sure what the program is, you will be presenting six master works of art to the students and doing a corresponding art project. All research materials and art project materials are provided for you. The program this year runs from late January through April and you present once every other week during that time frame in your child’s Social Studies class. The actual day of the week will be determined by you and the teacher depending on what works with your schedules. Below I have also listed the classes that I am currently seeking guides in. Classrooms needing guides: 5th Grade, Mrs. Luke 6th and 8th periods 6th Grade, Mr. Bates 1st and 2nd periods

Please email me if you would like to volunteer in one of the above classes, or in any other 5th or 6th grade class and missed signing up previously.

Thank you for your consideration,

Becky Nieto

The library is on the stage in the cafeteria during our construction and is open from 8:10 to 4:00 except for the times I have other duties.

We have received new books! New Biographies, New Non-Fiction, New Fiction and some New Graphic Novels. They were purchased thanks to the District and Scholastic Book Fair monies. Thank you so much for making these possible!

There are more that are already being read by Students! Aren’t they pretty? :-) Maria Rowell School Librarian

Down Syndrome

Walk with Maggie!

The goal of the Disability Awareness committee is to educate, support and raise awareness about people with disabilities. For the month of October we will be focusing on Down Syndrome. Daily announcements will include a fact that makes Down Syndrome interesting and unique. Each week there will be a table in the cafeteria during lunch to allow the kids to learn more about Down Syndrome. This will also serve as an opportunity to sign up to walk as Team Meadows Rams in the ASU Homecoming Parade. Parents can visit dsnetwork.org to view the team page and register to be a walker. If there are any questions, please email Blaire Hinks at [email protected]

Do you have a business that would like to give a tax deductible donation to our athletic

program, and be thanked with a 3’ x 5’ banner in our gym or on our field to be seen by

thousands of people?

Our Banner Program is a great way to get TONS of exposure for your company and support the community.

You will also be shown appreciation by being in our school newsletter and on our

Facebook page.

Please contact our Athletic Director, Bryant Holcomb at [email protected]

We are thrilled to thank Dunn Orthodontics for their support of our students.

They will be underwriting the cost of new Cross Country Jerseys and also supporting athletics by participating in the banner program.

AND they kept ON GIVING by also agreeing to help underwrite the cost of our

Art Masterpiece Program.

How lucky we are to have their generosity benefit our students so directly - what great community partners!
