As we near the end of another boating season we can look back at very a gentle weather pattern that we were fortunate to have. Yes, we had a bunch of rain early, but then we avoided the brutal heat and violent storms that have occurred many summers in the past. This pattern gave us the opportunity to be at the club and enjoy friendships and boating time together. And now we are in the process of putting the boats on the ground for a season of rest. We trust that everyone made the time this year to enjoy that which brings us together as a club.
Looking back we want to offer some thanks and appreciation for all the hard work that the Paschen’s, Wright’s and Geswein’s and all the folks that made the Pig Roast such a success again. We’re not sure how they do it but each year the pig just tastes better and better. Thanks folks for all you did to make it so enjoyable.
Thanks also to Tony Vannelle and all the members who contributed their time and efforts on the Hoover Clean-Up. It was much appreciated by the folks at the City and again demonstrated that the BBC is a community service oriented club.
As we stated in an earlier email to all the members the execution of retrofitting the 3 docks out front will commence Oct. 26th. It requires that all boats must be off those docks no later than the 25th. For those
intending to use their boats that final week before all boats are required to be off all docks by the 31st, you’ll need to contact Mike Martin to see if there is an available temporary dock for you to use. As always we are taking boats out every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will be ready to assist as long as boats are at the ramp awaiting removal. Please have your blocks aboard your boat and if you have a trailer make sure you tell the tractor driver prior to your arrival at the ramp. As we are reducing the time for about half of the boats (docks D, E & F) to be off the docks and since we are off to a slow start in getting boats on the ground, we need to advise everyone that there might be a line at the ramp so please have sufficient gas in your tank. We’re already behind in taking boats out so with the shortened period for doing them there will undoubtedly be congestion and delays on some of the remaining days. It would be a good idea also if you haven’t used your boat in awhile to come out and run the motor prior to taking it out. If you experience motor problems then we can arrange for a tow. If your boat is going up for sale or it will be going out for service, please inform the tractor driver as we have a special place for those boats. Please park in parking lots and not on grass where we store boats. Also as an after-thought when you are preparing your boat for the winter after it is on the grounds, please make sure that all trash and cleaning materials are deposited directly into the dumpster, and not put in the trash barrels in the clubhouse.
If we sound like this is the end of everything for the year that would not be
the case. There is much work and more fun to be had in the coming months. Mike Martin has put together a very comprehensive plan for the Work Day and lots of help will be required to prepare the club for Winter. We look for a large turnout to accomplish the many tasks before us. While we know many members have already achieved the minimum 10 hours of work, most members know that we still need the help and never stop at the minimum. While we’re on the subject of Work Hours, it is your responsibility to check to make sure you have been credited with 10 hours before invoices go out. If there is a discrepancy in the recorded times make sure you contact the Rear Commodore. Once the invoices are made up and have gone out, it’s too late for changes and you will be billed the $250 fee for not completing the minimum of 10 hours.
The fun times we mentioned that are ahead include the Harvest Party (Cathy Kerlee - Chair); the Memorial Breakfast (Steve Holtzapfel – Chair) and the Holiday Party (Frank Loula – Chair). Thanks to these great members for stepping up to host these events. We look forward to seeing many members present as we close out a very full social calendar for 2015. Deb Powell will have more about these events elsewhere in this newsletter.
Everyone will want to be present at the November General Meeting for our election of a new Board of Directors which will serve for the next 2 years. Ken Miller and his committee have gotten commitments from a dedicated group of members to be nominated. However as
always, nominations will be accepted from the floor. If you would like to serve the club in 1 of the 8 positions you can be nominated.
There are 4 members of the BOD who will not be running for re-election. Bob McCarthy (Vice-Commodore), Mike Martin (Rear Commodore), Terry Meredith (Secretary) and Dave Wuellner (Treasurer) will be retiring from the BOD after giving excellent service to the BBC during their time in office. We thank these men and can tell you that their contributions of time, energy and wisdom given were significant to the success of running the BBC the past years. We hope you will take a minute when you see them and thank them for all they gave us. It’s fortunate that we have had members like these that step forward and make sure that the future legacy of the BBC is assured. It has been our sincere pleasure and honor to serve with these men. Thank you gentlemen for all you have given on behalf of the BBC.
On behalf of the BOD thank you for allowing all of us the privilege of serving the club. It has been our pleasure to serve you and we hope we have done justice to your trust.

A few timely quotes from Yogi Berra: “When you arrive at a fork in the road, take
it.”, and “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”
We are reaching the end of the 2015 boating season, and we are making plans to put boats and docks into winter hibernation. We have a contractor arriving the last week of October to add hinges to the fingers on docks D, E and F, and we are making plans for the club work day on Saturday October 31. Our work plans include tearing down and hauling away the F dock damaged sections, breaking D, E and F down and storing their fingers in the cove, repairing “A” dock west end support, winterizing the bathrooms and cleaning the barn’s gutters. I hope you can join us on October 31 and help us get ready for the winter. As I take my “fork in the road” I wish to thank all of you for your support and friendship. We accomplished quite a lot of great things together and I valued our time working as a team. All my best wishes.
Mike

As we head into the end of the 2015 boating season, just want to remind everyone of a couple of things. First, if you see something on the Club grounds, in the Clubhouse or the outbuildings that needs repair, please let any one of the Board Members know so we can get it on
the maintenance hit list. Example; broken water faucet, wheel broken the hose cart, a broken screen or chair. Second, as noted earlier Dave Wuellner has withdrawn his name for consideration for the position of BBC Treasure to allow for some extended family travel. Ken Miller, Chairman of the Nominating Committee reports Vinnie Staropoli has agreed to run for Treasurer. The committee proposes the following candidates for the each elective office of the club. The election will be held at the General Meeting on Nov 15 at 2 PM. Commodore Jim Horan Vice Commodore Jim Hale Rear Commodore Frank Loula Secretary Maureen Gallagher Treasurer Vinnie Staropoli Trustees: Marilyn Barnes Bill McCarthy Gene Wise
In accordance with Article X, Section 3: At the Biennial Election meeting, the Commodore will accept nominations from the floor for all elected officer positions.

The temperature and the leaves are all changing very fast, which means one thing, Happy Fall everyone! It was a fun summer and we do not want the fun to stop. From what I hear, we are going to
have a blast at the Harvest Party on October 24th! Please send your reservations to Cathy by October 18th. I can’t wait for the hayride and to see all the costumes!
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. If this is yours too, be sure to RSVP for the Annual Memorial Breakfast on November 1st. Steve is making a yummy breakfast for us and needs to know how many eggs to scramble by October 28th.
Good news, we are having the Holiday Party!!! Mark your calendars for this event on December 12th!! Stay tuned for the time. Let’s give a big hand to Frank Loula for stepping up and taking charge of this!! Frank will need all the hands he can get to help with this event. Please contact Frank if you can help! It is a fun way to get the rest of your hours in this year!!!
You can always reach me at [email protected] or on my cell 614-353-4858.
