FLAG FLOWN AT HALF-MAST
As Australians reflect at the loss of Gough Whitlam
this week (Australian Prime Minister from 1972 to
1975) it is prudent that we mention his legacy.
Besides opening diplomacy negotiations
with the People’s Republic of China and
arguing for sanctions against Apartheid
South Africa, he invested in The Arts. He
Ended military conscription from service in
Vietnam
Delivered independence to Papua New
Guinea
Drafted the Land Rights Laws that
recognised Aboriginal land rights
Abolished the death penalty
Established a national health care system
(Medicare)
For many of us today it was the abolition of
University fees that changed lives forever and for
that we will be forever grateful.
VALE GOUGH WHITLAM!
CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2015
It has come to my attention that two parents have
approached a teacher inquiring what class the
teacher will have the responsibility for in 2015 and
placing a request that their children be placed in this
class.
Parents have been given four weeks to provide me
with their requests for consideration and this closed
on 6th October.
It is most unfair for parents to do this and place
the teachers in such uncomfortable positions and
to disregard school processes.
Staffing will not be determined before the second
week in December, when class placements are
being finalised. This is due to staff movement at the
end of the year and family relocations to different
suburbs.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
BOOK LAUNCH; MURAL UNVEILING AND
ART SHOW
What a wonderful community night on Thursday
16th October was had by students, parents and
family members, staff and other interested
community members.
The Launch of “Sierra Goes Hunting for
Lamingtons” started the night, followed by the
unveiling of the mural in the main building. Amelda
Reeve-Forsyth (The Artist in Residence) and Jacqui
Carslake spoke about the art process and techniques
involved in creating such a wonderful and lasting
mural. The Level Four students worked in
collaboration with the artist to link the project with
the Australian flora and fauna.
This was followed by the Art Show, where the
talents of our students were showcased, from our
youngest community members (kindergarten
children) to our eldest students.
Special guests included Anna Burke, Federal
Member for Chisholm, Neil Angus, Liberal State
Member for Forest Hill, Pauline Richards, State
Labor candidate for Forest Hill; Councillor, Sharon
Ellis, Mayor of Whitehorse and representatives
from the Men’s Shed. The Lions Clun once again
supported our school, Gerry van de Voorde co-
odinating the barbecue, which many of us enjoyed.
Thank you to all the attending staff who added
much to the evening from set up to pack up.
Thank you again Mrs Carslake and Mrs Bell for
your commitment to this evening and for the
community for supporting it.
The first of the PREP TRANSITION
PROGRAMMES will be from 9.15am to 10.45am
on October 24th.
Other Transition Programmes will be conducted on

A Prep Information Night will be held on Tuesday,
November 11th.

OSHClub News
After School Care Program
Program Update 23.10.2014
Hello everyone,
This week at OSHClub was CHALLENGE week! All week we have been challenging
ourselves and trying new things. We’re so proud of the children for doing such an awesome
job!
Next week we are extremely excited for Halloween week!!! We will be spending a
whole spooky week making costumes, masks, drawings and having our faces painted as all
different kinds of characters!
This whole term we will be striving to make an OSHClub Healthy recipe book. We have
already had some children bring in some great recipes that will be added to the book.
We ask that parents avoid recipes with nuts and raw eggs as some of the children have
allergies to these. However, please feel free to bring along some traditional recipes from
different places! We are hoping to cook up some of these recipes in our OSHClub!
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to call us or come in to see us.
Have a great week! The OSHClub Team
