It is 5 minutes to four on a Tuesday. I hear giggles and shrieks, and pounding of feet on the ramp

outside STAGES. It is almost time to begin our weekly theater rehearsal for our 6 and 7 year olds.

This month we have launched a new program for this age group - moving away from guided play-

writing and creative play model we have enjoyed for the past four years. This decision was not

made lightly, as the re-writing of favorite fairy tales had proved to be a wonderful (and often highly

entertaining) experience for all of the students and instructors involved. It had brought to life such

titles as; HANSEL AND GRETEL...AND GRETEL, SNOW WHITE AND THE EIGHT GREAT DWARFS, LOTSA

RAPUNZELS!, and GOLDILOCKS, THE FIVE BEARS, THREE SISTERS AND SOME SPIES.

This fall we are kicking off our new program with DISNEY SPECTACULAR - a cabaret-style show-

choir medley featuring some of the most famous and well-loved songs in the Disney songbook. We

spend our 45 minutes each week, singing, dancing and laughing our way through this wonderful

script, in preparation for a final presentation for family and friends later this fall.

This new musical-theater based curriculum is more in line with the rest of the programming

STAGES offers across all age groups, and will better prepare our youngest students to join the Ap-

prentice and main stage musical theater casts as they grow up at STAGES.

DISNEY SPECTACULAR will be followed this winter by the amazing BEATLES REVUE which will be

available for sign up when winter program registration opens on Monday October 7. Additional de-

tails about the BEATLES program, as well as THE KING AND I main stage and apprentice cast pro-

grams, can be found on our website.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

by William Shakespeare 2 Spots left in the 5th annual STAGES Shakespeare Academy, and our production of THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR. This non-musical performance training program is for young people ages 12+. Understand and perform Shakespeare’s verse while working toward the same collaborative goal of building a tight-knit acting company and presenting a fully-staged production.

THE KING & I is a jewel of American musical theater. East

meets West as English Widow, Anna Leonowens and her

young son arrive in Siam to tutor the many children and

wives of the King. Anna and the King find common

ground - and a most uncommon friendship - against the

backdrop of a violent and unpredictable time.

the age ranges for 2014 have been adjusted from prior

summer programs. This was done in response from

community feedback, and also to bring our summer

programs in line with what is offered during the school
