Part 4 How to Grow as a Church Leader: Ask (Leaders are made not born)

Ask God: Ask God through prayer. Prayer is a powerful tool that is many times underused in ministry. I’m talking about deep, significant prayer; on your knees prayer. James 5:16-17 says, “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” (NASB) Proverbs 2:3-5 “If you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. (NKJV) Wow, the knowledge of God. That tool would certainly be helpful in becoming a leader people will follow. Ask the Holy Spirit: Ask the Spirit of God to open your eyes to the truth of the scriptures. Jesus was the greatest leader who has ever lived. How could we ask for a more complete picture of leadership than those traits that Jesus exhibited? The psalmist who wrote Psalms 119:18-19 calls out to God to “Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from

Your law. I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.” (NASU) Ask successful leaders: I have yet to find a successful leader who did not want to share the secrets to successful leadership. You might have to buy them a meal to catch them in their down time, but leadership skills involve many sacrifices. Most importantly, they have made many mistakes in their journey to reach the level of leadership they have attained. They will to willing to guide you in a direction that will help you to avoid those pitfalls. They will discuss with you the elemental truths that cause success. For example, Peter Drucker has written that “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Finally, make certain that it’s God’s purpose that you become a leader. Each one of us has been given gifts from God. Make sure that your gift is leadership. If you have determined that leadership is your spiritual gift and you follow the proper scriptural and spiritual path to develop that gift, nothing can stop you from being successful. Romans 8:28 promises us “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (NKJV)

Greetings to all, We continue to see the hand of the Lord work through our pastors, leaders, and local churches. We have been a part of several conferences and leadership training. But at times, when we are serving the Lord obstacles will come our way. Someone did break into one of our trailers and helped themselves to our evangelism equipment. In spite of this minor set back, we have equipped the trailer with new equipment and are ready to go.

The Equipped Biblical Institute Seminary is underway and a new class is scheduled for January of 2012, under the instruction of Dr. Deryl Lackey. Please call us at the office and sign up as soon as possible.

Keep us in prayer as we look into the possibilities of two new church starts in our area. We know the Lord will stir the hearts of the community to respond to the gospel message.

Galatians 3:22 But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

Christ is the only key which will set us free.

I would like to begin by expressing my appreciation for your support for us is so many ways. It is truly

amazing what God is doing in the Inland Empire! We are truly honored to be a part of His Kingdom

Work in so many ways and your support allows us to do that. Of course I would like to once again

encourage you to come out to our Annual Ministry Connection on the 22nd of this month. It will allow

you and your church to see first hand what it looks like as we cooperate together as churches. We

have also added a new table that involves a team from your church taking a one day mission trip within

this area. Often times we think of missions across the world, yet the truth is you can travel within 60

miles of your church and find numerous mission opportunities. One of our desires in 2012 is to mobilize our churches

to travel across the Inland Empire and engage in effective mission work. At our annual meeting you will be introduced

to one such opportunity that is called the “Urban Plunge”! We will also have numerous other churches and ministries

sharing what God is doing in their midst, willing to both encourage and help you if your church is interested in that

particular ministry or opportunity. I Look forward to seeing you there, and bring the whole family as our ministry trailer

will be up and running and our disaster relief team from the state will be there sharing about their ministry and providing

a free lunch for all!

SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR’S MEETING

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 8th from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Associational office. One of the most common questions I get is about job descriptions. Just what is the role of the Sunday School Director, the children’s teacher, the class outreach leader, etc? At this meeting we will discuss the various jobs in the Sunday School and provide some sample job descriptions. Refreshments will be served.

FREE TRAINING AVAILABLE FOR YOUR CHURCH

I have recently been in (or will be in) a number of churches to provide training, or other assistance. These include: Temple Missionary Baptist Church, San Bernardino; First Baptist, San Jacinto; Bryant Street, Yucaipa; First Baptist in Upland, a Sunday School evaluation at First Baptist, Hemet and a demographic study for Las Brisas Bible Fellowship in Murrieta. All that to say, I’d love to come to your church and help out any way I can. Give me a call and let’s set up a time.

THANK YOU

Thanks to First Baptist Church in Rialto, Mark Baur, Pastor and Hemet Valley Baptist Church, Dale Garland, Pastor; for hosting our recent Sunday School Preparation and Training Conferences. We also want to thank the conference leaders who worked hard to present their material. It was a great time for training and inspiration.

will feature a 394 seat worship center, which will double as a fellowship hall, a nursery, office and kitchen, as well as a large

indoor gathering area. Their Forward in Faith fund raising effort has garnered 1.7 million
