During the 2009 Montana State Legisla- tive Session, MFBN received $1.1 million in funding per year for two years for the pur- chase and distribution of emergency food across the state. These funds enabled us to create the FAM pro- gram. In the past year, over 1.1 million pounds of food have been distributed using FAM dollars, for a total of approximately 900,000 meals to hungry Montan- ans. We want to keep this up! How can you help? Now is the best time to seek out your local legis- lators and talk about what is going on in your agency and with your cli- ents. Between now and the start of the 2011 State Legislative Session on January 3, 2011, call, write, or e-mail your lo- cal legislators to tell them how important food purchase funding has been for you . Please share your stories and explain how vital FAM product has been for your organization and, more importantly, for your clients. Or invite you legislators to your agency to hear these things in person. We all need to make it abun- dantly clear that these funds must continue in response to the growing need in Montana. If you don’t know who your legislators are, please contact Kate Devino. This is the first step in a statewide mobilization effort to affect the up- coming legislation. In the near future, the MFBN will be seeking Partner Agency representatives willing to help get the word out and spread in- formation through phone calls to other Partner Agencies and service or- ganizations in their re- gions. We would also like to identify individuals who would be willing to testify personally at the State Legislature between January and April 2011 to share the significance of the emergency food fund- ing. Additional informa- tion will be forthcoming, and if you would be inter- ested in either of these opportunities, or have any questions, please contact Kate Devino, Director of Public Policy at [email protected] or ext. 231. Now is the best time to seek out your local legis-lators and talk about what is going on in your agency and with your cli-ents. SNAP Outreach Workshop – Now Online!

The Finance Depart-

ment at the MFBN is now sending out paper copies of Agency state-ments. These paper reports will be mailed once per month, and should be used as back-up verifi-cation to the invoice sheets that come when food or product is delivered to your agency. If for some reason you have a question

Page 2 The Affiliate

about your invoice, and it relates to food delivery – please con-tact Bob Spencer in the Operations De-partment at Ext. 251. If you have a question about where to mail your payment, want to discuss pay-

ment options or have a finance question, please contact either Clark Tower or Paul Tripp at Exts.223 or 224. The MFBN is working hard to reduce outstanding pay-ables that are older than 60 days. Please do your part to help us with this goal. Thank you.

If you have not yet heard, Megan Hill is no longer MFBN Agency Relations Manager. She has moved on to another opportunity after 2 ½ years of working with the MFBN’s Partner Agen-cies. She did an out-standing job of organiz-ing the department and providing additional op-portunities to Partner Agencies and will be sorely missed. Jeff Gutierrez has assumed her position as Agency Relations Manager and is

the main point of con-tact for Partner Agen-cies. Please be patient with Jeff while we seek his replacement, as with limited staff it may take extra time to return phone calls and e-mails. Also, longtime

MFBN employee Linda

Tracy is now Program Manager and the main contact for the MFBN’s Backpack, Food Wagon and Mo-bile Food Pantry Pro-grams. She can be reached at [email protected] or at ext. 235.

Directions: 1. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil

over high heat. Once the water is boil ing, stir in the macaroni, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and has cooked through, about 10 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.

2. Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks, until the beef is browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Stir in the cream cheese until melted, then mix in the mushroom soup until thoroughly combined. Stir in milk, about 1/4 cup at a time, until the mixture is the consistency of gravy. Stir in the macaroni, bring to a simmer, and serve. Note: Fresh or frozen vegetables can be used. Just cook them before tossing with pasta.

Ingredients: 1 (16 ounce) package elbow macaroni 1 pound ground beef 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup 1 cup milk, or as needed
