"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called." 1 Timothy 6:1 (HOUSTON,TX) MANY OF us live with self imposed limiting beliefs. These limiting beliefs hold us back. They keep us from reaching our full potential and our optimal healthy body. UP TO this point, you most likely have not given your weight loss goals all you’ve got. It is easy to make attempts, get sidetracked by your limiting beliefs and then make excus- es. These limits are self imposed negative thoughts and beliefs. You might believe that people in your family are heavy or it is dif- ficult for you to lose weight. Whether these limiting thoughts are your voice or someone else’s, it is time they stop and you are freed! IN THE movie, Facing the Giants, there is a scene where a high school football coach is attempting to show his players that they are not playing to their full ability and believ- ing in themselves. The team has had a poor football record for several years. The coach asks one of the defensive players to stand up and death crawl (crawling on his hands and feet) down the field from one end zone while carrying another player on his back. The coach asks the player how far he can make it. This defense guy says that he can only make it to the 35 yard line while carrying another player and maybe to the 50 with no one his back. The coach says that he believes the player can make it to the 50 yard line with a player on his back and proceeds to blindfold this defense player for the exercise. The player stammers and denies his abil- ity but ultimately positions himself to take the challenge. As the player moves down the field the camera focuses tightly on the coach encouraging him to keep going as the player says he is tired. Soon the camera pans the players on the sidelines standing up and becoming attentive to watch the progress on the field. The coach tells the player to keep going and use up every ounce of will power he has and just keep going. Finally the player falls to his stomach red faced and out of breath apologizing for stopping. The coach takes off his blind fold to reveal the he went the entire length of the field. THIS IS a great example of the limitations that we set on ourselves and the limitations that others set on us that we accept as true. The blindfold kept the defense player going beyond his own expectations and judg- ments of his ability. He amazed himself and his team mates. PLEASE THINK about how you have judged yourself. Think about how you may have accepted other people’s judgments of you concerning your weight and your ability to lose weight. Picture yourself five years from now. What do you look like in five years? Are you at your perfect weight or are you overweight? This is a significant question for you to really think about. If you picture yourself overweight in your future, do you really believe that you can lose weight? THIS BELIEF is directly tied to your thinking. Picturing yourself overweight in the future is not thin thinking. You may not have many thin thoughts. You may have a long history of holding limiting beliefs. These limiting beliefs are a choice, not the truth about you. You can choose to change your beliefs and your thinking which will change your life. You have a choice to improve yourself no matter how small the improvements are when you get started. YOU CAN DO IT! RELEASE YOUR limiting beliefs and become your best self! I would like to thank all of the churches and businesses for their support in

helping Christian Star News accomplish the larger vision that God has for the United States. We thank you for con-tinuing to stand with us, as we work to improve the paper to perfection.

wE dEsirE to be a part of the harvest of souls for God. We seek to place this Chris-tian paper right next to the secular papers in businesses. We pray and desire that the articles submitted from the dif-ferent churches will encourage the unsaved souls to seek salvation in a Christ believing, Bible-based Church.Purpose & Goals: • Provide encouraging good news

and information of special interest for those within the local Christian communities that we serve

• Help promote businesses and pro-fessionals that want to reach poten-tial customers/clients from their local Christian community.

• Provide an outlet for pastors to reach people beyond their own congrega-tions for the purposes of educating & communicating special events.

• Help educate people about how to live well and to be good stewards as we face challenging economic and social conditions. Examples include: gardening and nutritional tips, clip-ping coupons, as well as advice from experts on subjects such as finances and interpersonal relationships.

• Develop a “Listing” of all Christian-Owned Businesses.

• “Counselor’s Corner” will provide Christian-based advice from a Li-censed Professional Counselor.

• Promote local positive Christian-based family activities.

• Draw attention to special individual community needs in an effort to galvanize community support.

Note for Pastors: The Christian Star News is Non-Denominational, and we have no intentions of attempting to persuade those who are currently attending a church that preaches Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to move to another church. We are not church hoppers ourselves: we are rooted.

CSN offers each local church in the

areas we serve the following opportuni-ties: • Submit articles that are strictly bible-

based (pref. KJV/NKJV) for the pub-lisher to consider for use in a future publication.

• Submit upcoming events that are open to the public to be listed.

• Church Directory Listing. • Free distribution of the publication. • We also offer local Christian Church-

es the opportunity to purchase Ads (of any size available) in the Christian Star News, and these ads may be designed to encourage unchurched readers to visit their place of wor-ship.

At the end of the day, we just want to be obedient to the Holy Spirit and serve God! CSN paper is new and innovative with its new concept of helping the commu-

nity. Christians are called to help; we are called to help the poor, the struggling and everyone within our reach in need of help. We offer this paper FREE to the public and FREE to the churches to utilize this as a tool to reach out to those who may be seeking to learn more about God

and His goodness. We at CSN extend a genuine concern for the mind, body, and spirit of our readers and will work tirelessly to ensure that we bring to you informa-tion and advertisers that adhere to the same. CSN is about Christians Helping All People! We seek to Be our Brother’s Keeper and Loving our Neighbors as Thy Self. Therefore, we are working with companies to bring you the discounts and coupons you need in one place for necessary items

that you consume or utilize every day. It requires companies that are willing to offer savings to their loyal consumers, as well as the participation of the communi-ty to utilize their saving offers. CSN offers advertisement that is affordable to small Christian businesses, in addition to large corporations. Stand with us in supporting the companies that advertise with CSN as they seek to serve you. We are here to add to, build and assist the churches with their vision to serve God and prepare souls for the harvest. I offer my TV ministry “Bent, but Not Broken” to the different ministries as they wish to share their vision, their testimony and to announce upcoming events as an additional service. I am blessed to be a blessing! Thanks for taking the time to be your brother’s keeper and ensuring that they too get the same savings as I am offering you. God bless you and may the seeds you sow reap 1000-fold in the same year in Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Month

As God's Grace reaches more and more people... God will receive more and more glory. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed

everyday. For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly

outweighs them and will last forever.

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I com-mand you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing;

but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. John 15:12-15

mosT pEoplE seem to think that the world is becoming, or will inevitably become, a better place in which to live. It is felt that through education, diplomacy, and scien-tific advances, most will live longer, better, and more peaceful lives than any who lived before. Is this really what’s next? noT according to Jesus! Not long before He left this world about two thou-sand years ago he said, “As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be” (Matt: 24:37). There are two very important things in this statement. First, Jesus reiterates his promise to return to the world. Second, when He comes, the condi-tion of the world will be the same as it was in the days of Noah. What is said about the world then? We are told, “The earth was cor-rupt” and filled with violence” (Gen: 6:11). The headlines on evening news and in the world’s newspapers every day show that in spite of our “advanced civilization” and modern technology, these two evils --cor-ruption and violence-- are filling the world today. placEs whErE it was once safe to walk at night are now the scenes of crime during the day, and many things that God has always called corruption and sin are now accepted as “personal choices” and “life-styles.” Note the words of Jesus again: “As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be,” by looking around at the events and conditions in the world today, I believe that “the coming of the Lord draweth night” (James 5:8). whaT’s nExT in God’s schedule of events for you? Will you be among those who “know not God”, and perish in your sins, or will you be among the blood-bought people of God, and be caught up in a moment of time to be forever with Christ? (1 Thess 4:15-17). Knowing God is not believing that He exists; it is not saying prayers or going to church or doing good works. Knowing God is entering into a personal relationship with Him through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, who said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh into the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6). Jesus Christ has provided the only way by which hell-deserving sinners like us can have our sins washed away when He “bare our sins in His own body on the tree” and “rose again the third day” (1Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 15:4). in ordEr to be ready for what’s next--the coming of Christ--you must realize that you need salvation, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). You must realize that without Jesus Christ, there is no salvation, “For there is no other name under the heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (acts 4:12). You must realize that you cannot ear salvation, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not yourselves: it is the gift of God: not works, lest any man should boast” (Ephe-sians 2:8,9). You must simply trust what Jesus has done for you, “For God So loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life“(John 3:16). Turn in your faith to Jesus today and He will take aways your burden of sin--no matter how great it is. Only then will you know the One who holds the future in His hands, and be ready for what’s next.

Mrs. Marilyn Orton has many names. There is a man who calls her helpmeet and three grown children who call her “Mom.” She has two “perfect” Grandchildren who call her O’ma. The Lions club calls her a recipient of their Citizen of the Year award. Christian Women’s Clubs call her their Inter-national Consultant for Special Ministries. The Marilyn Orton African Alliance calls her the Director of their Annual Leadership Conference. Women of Worth International call her their Founder and President. And women all over the world call her “Mom.” The name she covets from the Lord is “Faith-ful Servant!” Her journey as President of Women of Worth International began in 1986, when she coordinated the prayer room at the Billy Graham Conference Amsterdam 86. There, she met hundreds of Evangelists from all over the world and they exchanged ad-dresses. By the time she returned home there was already a stack of letters waiting for her. For the next 18 years, Marilyn answered thou-sands of letters. All she ever wanted to do

was to be a “Cheerleader” for other people’s ministry. But God arranged their meeting for a different purpose and plan. In 2003 she had an opportunity to go to Nigeria. Upon her arrival her friends of 18 years were at the airport en masse. For the next month they took her all over the country to speak in their churches. Before she left, she promised to return in 2004 with a program to help them start and link together their Women’s Min-istries. In May of that year Mari-lyn was diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic with a very rare disease that had no treatment and no cure. By July she was bedrid-den, and given only a few months to live. On August 3, 2004, in the middle of the night, she received a phone call from Nigeria. Her friends told her that they prayed all night for her and that God had healed her. She thanked them, hung

up the phone, and went back to sleep. When she got out of bed in the morning, all of her symptoms were gone. She went back to Mayo and they ran tests and confirmed

that she was healed. The Doctor’s were stunned! There was no explanation

but God. Marilyn went back to Nigeria in 2005 to lay the groundwork for the program Women of Worth. In 2006 she took a team of 20

who scattered all over the country to conduct WOW seminars

and schools for Pastors. The WOW program was very basic with only 7 simple steps to follow, and so by 2007 WOW chapters were spring-ing up everywhere. This summer the women gathered in

regions and held 16 Celebrate Jesus Festi-vals and Conferences. Why is WOW so successful? It is Spirit-Driven. No one but God could have taken

“chance encounters” 23 years ago and formed the people into one orga-nization. Also the WOW pro-gram meets many needs. The Pastors like it because it gets the women involved in ministry. The women love having a leadership role in the church. Their well defined jobs give them an op-portunity to use their spiritual gifts. They love it that other churches and denomina-tions in their city have the same program. And, WOW gives them a place to belong in a national sisterhood. When they accidently bump into another WOW woman, there is an instant bond and lots of hugs. To learn more about WOW please go to http://www.wownigeria.org Today, WOW International is in 40 coun-tries. WOW USA is growing daily in the Unit-ed States.“The LORD has done this, and it is marvel-ous in our eyes.” Psalm 118:23

See You There!

By Rolland Soileau

For many years, the Gulf Coast region between New Orleans and Houston has been pretty well shield-ed from the economic upheaval that the rest of the nation has been enduring. The biggest contributor of this buffer has been the strong industrial base that is currently lo-cated in this region. Our geographic area has been home to a multitude of refineries and chemical plants for decades. The “plants” directly em-ploy thousands and thousands of workers, in addition to the indirect employment that can be directly tied to this strong industrial area. In the revolving door of our economy, this buoys many other occupational growth areas; banking, housing, auto dealerships, restaurants, car washes, hotels, almost EVERYTHING!! Al-though we have seen some contrac-tion of the economy in our region, it has been fairly mild by comparison

(particularly in Texas) to the rest of the nation. During the last oil bust in the early 1980’s, ten’s of thousands of jobs disappeared from the region al-most overnight. Oil prices dropped dramatically and errant speculation paved the way for this sudden col-lapse of the oil industry. So are we primed for history to repeat itself again? Maybe, maybe not. The Gulf region, although still heavily laden with the petroleum and petrochemical industries, is somewhat more diversified, particu-larly in the Houston area. If the oil industry collapsed again, it would still lead to many tens of thousands of jobs being lost. But with growth in the Houston port export business, agriculture, aeronautics, defense contracting, and computer industry (Dell and Compaq), the area is not quite as dependent on the oil in-dustry as it once was. But make no mistake about it; a massive decline in the oil industry is not going to be

pretty in the Gulf coast region. The southern part of Louisiana is not nearly as diversified as the Texas re-gion, mainly due to larger population in the bigger state. There are some very different pres-sures on the oil industry than we’ve seen in the past. Of course, there’s the thinking that since this industry has been so strong in the past, its time to tax them more. This seems to be a particularly popular theme dur-ing every election cycle. There is also the push for more alternative fuels-ethanol, solar, wind, even nuclear. Then there’s the fact that people are conserving energy a lot more than they used to. Leisurely driving habits have changed greatly. Higher gaso-line prices and the current recession’s pressure on household incomes can take a bow here. The Cap and Trade debate that’s now going on in Congress will also significantly impact the oil industry. Basically, companies must buy credits for car-

bon emissions into the atmosphere in the hopes that it will help clean up the atmosphere. Pretty good idea? When you get China, India, and the rest of the world to bite, then let’s think about it. Until then, you once again put our national industries at a disadvantage to the rest of the world. This means job losses again as refineries are forced to shut down, potentially higher costs for consum-ers (think any tax won’t be passed along?), and more foreign imports of finished petroleum products. Right now the US imports over 3 million barrels a day of petroleum prod-ucts. When you want to talk about a WORLD-WIDE carbon tax that levels the playing field for everyone, then you’re doing something about the climate. Otherwise, you’re putting a lot of US jobs at risk during already challenging economic times. It’s not a time for political posturing. This can get really serious for us, really fast.

Law vs. GraceQuestion: Are we to ignore the old testament Law and focus only on new testament Grace? it confuses me.

Answer: it is said that there are always two ways to look at an issue to get a better perspective. As the media-tor would say between two debaters, “There are two sides to the story!” It has been my personal experience and observation that there are many who struggle with the subject of Law and Grace. This has been an ongo-ing dilemma for centuries. Church history is filled with those who have struggled to find their own personal peace in Scripture regarding this issue. Although much can be written on this subject, I will do my best to give you my condensed, but balanced, biblical answer. For those who cling to Grace and shun the Law, there is a word that would describe their belief. The word is “Antinomianism.” This word comes from two Greek words, anti, mean-ing “against”; and nomos, meaning “law.” Thus, Antinomianism means “against the law.” Theologically, anti-nomianism is the belief that there are no moral laws that God expects Christians to obey…live as you like with no consequences. Antinomianism takes a biblical teaching to an unbibli-cal conclusion. The biblical teaching is that Christians are not required to observe the Old Testament Law as a means of salvation. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He fulfilled the Old Testament Law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15). The unbiblical conclusion is that there is no moral law God expects Chris-tians to obey. The Apostle Paul dealt with the issue of antinomianism in Romans 6:1-2, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” The most frequent attack on the doctrine of salvation by grace alone is that it encourages sin. People may wonder, “If I am saved by grace and all my sins are forgiven, why not sin all I want?” That thinking is not the result of true conversion because true conversion yields a greater desire to obey, not a lesser one. God’s desire (and our desire when we are regen-

erated by His Spirit) is that we strive not to sin out of gratitude for His grace and for-giveness. God has given us His infinitely gracious gift of salva-tion through Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 5:8). Our response is to consecrate our lives to Him out of love, worship, and gratitude for what He has done for us (Romans 12:1-2). Antinomianism is unbiblical in that it misapplies the meaning of God’s gracious favor. A second reason that antinomi-anism is unbiblical is that there is a moral law God expects us to obey. 1 John 5:3 tells us, “This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome.” What is this law God expects us to obey? It is the law of Christ – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great-est commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as your-self. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40). No, we are not under the Old Testament Law. Yes, we are under the law of Christ. The law of Christ is not an extensive list of legal codes. It is a law of love. If we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, we will do nothing to displease Him. If we love our neigh-bors as ourselves, we will do noth-ing to harm them. Obeying the law of Christ is not a requirement to earn or maintain salvation. The law of Christ is what God expects of a Christian. Antinomianism is contrary to every-thing the Bible teaches. God expects us to live a life of morality, integrity, and love. Yes, Jesus Christ freed us from the burdensome commands of the Old Testament Law, but that is not a license to sin, but rather a covenant of grace and obedience. We are to strive to overcome sin and cultivate righteousness, depending on the Holy Spirit to help us. The fact that we are

graciously freed from the demands of the Old Testament Law should result in our living our lives in obedience to the law of Christ. 1 John 2:3-6 declares, “We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands. The man who says, ‘I know Him, but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Who-

ever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” is the O.T. Law not relevant to the believer? Keep in mind that the important part of understanding this issue is that the O.T. Law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to reveal to the Isra-

elites how to obey and please God, how to worship Him and how to atone for sin (the sacrificial system). Some of the laws were to make the Israelites distinct, or different from other nations (food and clothing rules). The Old Tes-tament Law was given to manifest and reveal the sin of man. Paul, in Romans 7:7,9 wrote, “I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about covet-ing if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet…And I was once alive apart from the Law, but when the command-ment came, sin became alive and I died.” For example, if one were speed-ing down the highway with no posted speed limit, how would he know how fast he could go or if he were breaking any speed laws? Once he observes the posted speed limit, he is made aware of how he has been breaking the speed laws. Paul continues to say in Romans 7:12, “So then, the Law is holy and the commandment is holy and righteous and true.” You see, the

Law wasn’t shunned or considered obsolete by the apostle Paul. It was received as a means to reveal to him the sin that was in him. It reveals what we have wrong within us…the sin in us. Now, when one looks at a mirror (the Law) and it visibly reveals the dirt and grime and filth, can the mirror cleanse us? Absolutely not! The Law is the revealer but not the cleansing agent. “For whAt the Law could not do, weak as it were through the flesh, God did. sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.” (romans 8:3-4). “For the Law was given through Moses: grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17). “i do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteous-ness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.” (Galatians 2:21). the o.t. Law and n.t. Grace work together to fulfill the salvation plan of God.

“...Behold, All Things are Become New.” is the title of a new computer program recently developed by New Creations, Fremont, Ohio. This Bible based reference library fea-tures scriptures giving wisdom on Kingdom economics and other fi-nancial matters. The main message is how to prosper with God as the Divine Administrator in business, ministry, and life.

“Behold” is the result of years of Bible research on financial matters, prosperity, and common sense ap-proaches to everyday challenges. With many years experience as an entrepreneur and business con-sultant the author, Tom Hills, was amazed at the number of Bible

verses providing wisdom on money matters. As he studied the details of various Old and New Testament scriptures, he realized the informa-tion was important to everyone's financial challenges.

Tom's research material, the 1611 King James Bible, and Greek/He-brew transliterated text have been combined to create a comprehen-sive reference library compatible with all versions of MS Windows. User defined entry allow for unlimit-ed word and phrase searches of the Bible and accompanying commen-tary. Users can add their own notes to all areas of the program, provid-ing for documenting important information relative to individual research.

A very unique software technology was used for the “Behold” computer version. Resourceware, developed in 1993 by Tom Hills, adds even more power and flexibility to the program. With the ever-changing worldly economic conditions, Re-sourceware insures your “Behold” reference system will always be current. This leading edge concept provides informative updates, giv-ing you the facts needed for contin-ued prosperity.

As New Creations develops ad-ditional research material, you can keep current without costly up-grades. Helpful future additions include; personal testimony, sample business plans based on God's wis-dom, prospering with God's Word for new worldly challenges, and

other life-changing information.

Original Christian graphics in the form of stained glass windows add an artistic touch to the system. All graphics and illustrations are the creations of Vickey Hills, the author's wife. The package includes an icon library of several of Vickey's graph-ics that may be used royalty free.

The “...Behold” CD can be installed on any MS Windows PC. For fur-ther details on this program, or any of New Creations' other Christian software products, write to New Creations, PO Box 43, Fremont, OH 43420. T he Problem: Letting go of the past

ThERE ARE various times in all of our lives when we are susceptible to being hurt. Indeed there are times when tragedy strikes without warning. There are times when you are flying smoothly through the air of life and without warning your plane is taken over by a ter-rorist called tragedy. And before you can brace for impact your plane has crashed into the twin towers of reality and is burning in the hell of life. There are times when you are sailing peacefully along the sea of life and without warning your ship is taken over by a pirate called pain. And before you know it, what

once was an ocean of oasis has turned into a raging river of unrest. If you are not care-ful in times like these you will dis-cover that you have been detained by your dilemmas. Imprisoned by your infirmities. Captured by your calamities. Held hostage by your hopelessness. In times like these we are vulnerable in our minds and in our emotions. We began to build walls and strongholds that fortify us within ourselves, keeping others from us and us from others. I REMEMbER in the late ‘90s traveling throughout the world while in the military. I remember the wonderful places I travelled to like Boston, Massachusetts. They had their own way of speaking. One phrase that has now become synonymous with that area is “forget about it.” My dears, bor-rowing the lingo of our friends from the city of the Celtics, I wish to tell you as well, forget about it. Isaiah 43:18-19 says “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wil-derness, and rivers in the desert.” God speaks says to remember not the former things. He says don’t even consider the things of old. In other words, he says forget about it. Forget about the bad news of yesterday. Forget about the con-dition that you were in. Forget about the failed relationship that you were in. Forget about the hopeless state of yesterday. He then says don’t even consider the things of old. When mapping out today, leave the hurt of yesterday out of the equation. We should indeed learn from whatever mis-takes we have made in life, but God says that we don’t have to be

controlled by them for the rest of our lives. God wants to do a new thing in your life. Whatever you have suffered, whatever you have gone through, whatever you have dealt with in your life, God says remember it not. He says remem-ber it not because He wants to do a new thing in your life. No matter what the relationship was that caused you hurt, He wants to do a new thing. No matter the job that you lost, God wants to do a new thing. No matter the struggle there may have been in your financial condition, remem-ber it not because God wants to do a new thing in your life. We must understand that God cannot do this new thing as long as you are remembering how it use to be and how bad it once was. God cannot do this new thing as

long as you are considering the things of old. The prophet says that God will make a way in the w i l d e r n e s s and a river in the desert. Now in the wilderness there is no

direction. The wilderness is a place of desolation and isola-tion. The wilderness is a place of waste and worthlessness. I know that when you look into the rear view mirror of life you can see the wilderness of your past. It was a place where you were unsure about your marriage. Your wilder-ness was a place of wasted time and worthless relationships. But God speaks prophetically through his word and says despite the wil-derness that you see in your rear view mirror he can make a way to green pastures if you will not consider the things of old. A way, that when followed, leads to an assuredness in your marriage and friendships. FURThERMORE hE says even in the desert place of your life he wants to cause a river to spring forth. Now a desert is a dry place. It is a place without water. And we know that a place without water is a dead place. It is a place devoid of life. A desert is a place of decay and destruction. There may have been some relationships in your past that seemed hopeful but as time progressed you found those relationships all dried up like a desert. And whether from the scorching sun of time or the gusty winds of change those relation-ships eventually died. But God says regardless of what may have been if you will forget about the former things, he will cause a river of life to spring forth. Despite the desert that you are in there is river of deliverance available to you if you will forget about what once was. Despite the desert that you are in right now there is a river of healthy relationships springing forth. But it is imperative that you “Forget about it” ©

Forget about the condition that you were in.

Forget about the failed relationships that you were in.

Forget about the hopeless state of yesterday.

Oh ThIS is good, you see I am surrounded by people who’ve got an idea of what the right way is, but they don’t have the way in them to guide them and lead them. Well what do you mean Bro’ Chauncy? Glad you asked It is more than a good book (referring to the Holy Bible), he is more than the man upstairs, or someone up there loves me (referring to God almighty) or going to the church (Lord’s house) or being lucky (refer-ring to Grace & Mercy) if the Lord God be for you, nothing or no one can change that (see Romans 8:28) GOd’S WAYS are not our ways. His timetable is all about deci-sions. He sets it before you and we choose what way to go. bY NOW, seriously a person just wants to go to hell, you just want to be depressed, you just want to be lonely, and you just want to stay broke based off of the decisions that you have chose to make. You can keep running that red light at the intersection and risk getting tagged by the big 18 wheeler, or you can decide to stop, when the light is red or put your signal on when you turn, or wait to send that text message while you’re driving….choices, choices, choices….Life is about choices ( see Deuteronomy 30:15 & 19-20) all a person has to do is want to change and want to make life better for them in whatever direction they may be going, many many many many people got it but they don’t have it, I mean they know what to say and how to dress and how to speak, when to say what, what sort of gyration goes with what, when to say amen, when to cry, how to write a sermon how to, walk and even pray with absolutely know idea that Jesus said “ a man must go through he father to get to him (as it is written,” they are forever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Tim 3:7), then once you find him then you can get his spirit…( Acts 1:8) Now I don’t have time to go into the 3 and 1 this and another. You choose for yourself, I tell you this though, if you ever want to discuss it, bring your Bible and I’ll show by the scripture what’s what, It’s like it talks about in Hebrews 6:1-3 as it is written “ let us then stop discussing the rudiments of Chris-tianity ( not religion). We ought not to be laying over again the fo u n d a t i o n s of faith in God and of repen-tance from the deadness of our former ways, by instruction about cleansing rights and the laying-on-of hands, about the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. Instead, let us advance towards maturity; and so we shall, if God permits.” ThE APOSTLE Paul said in Romans 1:21 “There is therefore no pos-sible defense for their conduct; knowing God, they have refused to honor him as God or to render him thanks.” Even the most hateful person on earth knows how to give

God the highest praise, that praise is to say “ Hallelujah”, You’ve heard it…… such and such has taken place girl or hey man did you hear about this or that.. and the response is “Hallelujah” you see you‘ve got it but you don’t have it. All I’m saying in this teaching is that we that are saved and filled with his precious Spirit need to make as many more disciples as we can. Witness and pray for the hurting see Isaiah 61 and Luke 4:18-20 which by the way is the first sermon that Jesus himself, God almighty preached for us and them at that time but this sermon is still in effect to this day… Read it for yourself! I dare you… I will even venture to say, some people will never repent and turn from their evil ways NO MATTER WHAT! It’s all over the book of Revelation. It states some thing like this… even with all the drama going on in these last days, they STILL” did not repent.. (Revelation 9:20-21)(Intermission) or as David says in Psalm (Selah) which means to pause and reflect… PRAYER FOR such a time as this. We need to pray for a fresh anoint-ing to come our way, a season of hunger for the hurting and the lost JUST AS WE WERE. Christ Jesus came on down to save us and make us his lights to shine in a dark and lonely world. 2 PETER 2:20-22 “For if after they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowl-edge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them to have not known the way of righteousness, than after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is turned to his own vomit again: and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. RETURN bACK to the king if this has ministered to you, re dedicate your life to the Lord if this has touched you. Return back slider and if this is you. I heard it put this way from a preacher. “The four things God does not know”.

"I am a warrior princess....I war with the Word. And I don't look any less feminine warring in the Spirit; I can fight, I can war, and then I can get my hair done!" -Dr. Deb-bie Thomas Did you know that a healthy soul can counteract the attacks from the devil - and that with the right weapon you can stop the enemy every time? Part of ac-cepting our assignment is the necessity of developing a healthy soul. Here are 4 Things in Life that can "set up" Strong-holds WITHOUT a Healthy Soul:1. Unexplainable Things: an attack of

the devil that's premeditated, to pull you away from the company of the saints and into the company of fools.

2. Unavoidable Things: unescapable, inevitable, obvious, and sometimes necessary to go through.

3. Unexpected Things: sudden, unac-counted for, not perveived, unpre-dicted, unanticipated, unforeseen, caught off guard.

4. Unnecessary Things: pointless, pre-ventable, redundant, needless.

The woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43-48) was in such a state of hopeless-

ness that a stronghold could have held her captive, but when the world's system ran out, she made a healthy soul deci-sion. She ran to Jesus and established a point of contact to release her faith. She pulled from the power and anointing of God, and healing manifested.

Tears by Pamela S Thibodeaux © 2009

I woke up crying and can’t seem to stop I close my eyes but the tears leak out…Pouring from my soul.

Where are you, Lord in all of this? Why, where once my heart…Now a deep, dark hole?

Tears are to the soul what rain is to the soil Cleansing, healing, renewing...So I let them flow.

And when they’re done I find You…. Strength Restored.

2 Kings 20: 5: Thus says the LORD: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you.”Award-winning author, Pamela S. Thibodeaux is the Co-Founder and a life-time member of Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a member of White Roses in Bloom Authors. Multi-pub-lished in romantic fiction as well as creative non-fiction, her writing has been tagged as, “Inspirational with an Edge!” and reviewed as “steamier and grittier than the typical Christian novel without decreasing the message.”

What is Orphan Sunday?: It is a special Sun-day set aside for Christians to educate, ad-vocate and take action on the worldwide orphan crisis. Each Christian makes it a special day dedicated to showing Christ's love to thousands of the 143 million orphan children in the world. Each participating congregation, home group and business is provided with a poster, bulletin inserts and educational materials for the Orphan Sun-day Event. We will even provide you with a sermon outline and a DVD presentation to share. At the end of the service each congre-gation or home group takes up a free will offering. Businesses provide literature and accept donations. Families provide a family free will offering. Some congregations and businesses match or partially match the of-fering.

Christian Star Issue 10 October 2009

Two thoughts have been playing over in my mind lately… Singing in the night and beauty in the rain. The night and rain often portray the dark times, trials and tribula-tions that come in this life. Yet God can give us a song and beauty in those times. When we think of the night in negative terms, words come to mind such as “dark-ness, loneliness and fear.” Thoughts of “bumps in the night,” “boogie-men” lurking near and foreboding feelings often arise in our heart; in the dark it is hard to see your way, not knowing what lies ahead or be-hind. The possibility of falling and hurting oneself is greater in the inky blackness of night. Isn’t that much like our lives in those hard and difficult times? Life seems dark and lonely, filling us with fear of tomorrow. Everything we hear or see translates to us those foreboding feelings that assail us be-cause of the darkness of situations and cir-cumstances. We can’t seem to find our way. The light seems so far away, almost as if a new day will never dawn. But just as the stars, the moon and even night-lights give light to the night’s dark-ness so God gives light to the darkness of life’s situations. The Bible tells us in Psalms 139 that the darkness is as light to Him. Further, God says in His word that He gives singing in the night (Psalms 42:8; Psalms 77:6). Paul and Silas praised God in prison while in chains (Acts 16:25). God can give us hope in the midst of the darkest of times. And just as a new day dawns every morn-ing so His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 2:22-23).

Not long ago I heard the sound of birds sing-ing in the night outside my window. I was amazed as I had never heard birds singing in the night; at least that I can remember. As I laid there listening to the beautiful sounds, I pondered the truth that we should be like those birds that singing in the night. As we lift our voices in praises our focus will stay on Him. Though darkness surrounds us, our song of the Lord will bring comfort and peace in the midst of our trials and troubles. The song of the Lord strengthens our faith in God. His faithfulness to us, gives us an assurance that He indeed will bring us out of the darkness and into the light. Many times we also think of rain in same way as we think of the night. Rainy days are often dark, gloomy and dreary. Rain is often brought in with storms and storms often bring turmoil and destruction. Life inevitably brings darkness, gloominess and dreariness in our lives; sometimes it even brings greater times of turmoil and destruc-tion. However, God always has a plan. He can bring beauty in the midst of any situ-ation. We must look for and embrace that beauty. Living in Louisiana has somewhat jad-ed my view of rain. In Louisiana it always seems to be raining at sometime or another. To be honest with you, I haven’t always ap-preciated the rain. Sometimes it seems as if rainy days go on and on with no relief from the unending saturation much like life’s tri-als and troubles can seem to go on and on with no end in sight. Thankfully, the storms cease and the rain stops to rain again an-other day and so it is in life.

There is beauty in the rain if you just take the time to look for it. Like watching the rain begin to wash everything clean and how the rinsing brings the vibrancy of color back into all of nature. Have you ever no-ticed the refreshing it seems to bring and the fresh rain smell in the air after a good shower? Have you ever taken the time to notice just how beautiful glistening rain-drops are as they lie upon various surfaces? When the light hits the raindrops just right it seems as if there is a rainbow within each tiny drop. How about the soft sounds of rain on leaves, through trees, on the panes of a window or a tin roof that can bring such a relaxing restfulness that you want to lie down and take a nap? Have you ever seen children play in the rain? They love it! Their little faces turned upward to feel every soft drop upon their face, laughing and splash-ing through all the puddles. My son never seemed to miss a puddle; puddles seemed to hold some type of strange fascination for him. Shouldn’t we be like those children, looking for the “good things” in the rain? Shouldn’t we take our focus off of the dif-ficult things and turn our faces up to God for His refreshing, basking in His love for us and knowing that He will work things out for us? Shouldn’t we be looking for God in everything and just like my son’s fascination for puddles shouldn’t we have a fascination for God, desiring to “splash” ourselves in His word, His love, and His presence? Though there are difficulties that come with this life the Bible assures us that He makes everything beautiful in its time. He causes all things to work together for good

to those who love Him and are called ac-cording to His purpose; conforming us to the image of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. A prime example of turning bad to good is found in the story of Joseph’s life. Joseph had big troubles and those troubles just seemed to grow and get worse. Joseph’s troubles included family hatred, jealousy, slavery, lies, and false accusations. His problems did not end overnight but lasted through many difficult years. However, God had a plan and He kept Joseph safe in the midst of it all. Through every horrible thing Joseph experienced God was preparing Jo-seph for his greatest calling, to save nations. Joseph said it well when he spoke these words to his brothers in Genesis 50:20 “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” Yes, in the end the “rain” stopped, the “night” finally ceased and a new day dawned in Jo-seph’s life and God used him mightily for his plan and purpose. God desires to do the same in our lives, turning every dark situation for good. Trust Him in the midst of those situations; lift your voice, sing a song of praise to Him in your “night.” Look for the beauty that lies within the midst of your “rain.” God has a plan for your life and He will lift your heart with “Singing in the Night” and “Beauty in the Rain” as you place your hands within His and walk with Him in faith that He is in con-trol and has your best interest at heart.

Her book also has a newly released accompanying study guide and leader’s guide, which can be pur-chased separately. “I’ve been finding many women’s groups are choosing my book for group study, but I truly intended my book to work well for men or wom-en.” Mrs. Trussell said, “God’s Truths are plain and simple and with my book as the roadmap, I think many people will find themselves on the road to a much happier life, know-ing that God has a plan for them,” she concluded. Her book also points out that the world’s humanistic views and promotion of self aware-ness do not offer wholeness or mental wellness, but instead offer crutches, quick fixes and “band-aids”, which have no long term benefits to the Christian. Mrs. Trussell has also been a featured guest on the TBN Network in August of 2008, shortly after her first book debuted. In 2008, she was the keynote speaker in a conference titled after her first book: "Poured Out, Spilled and Broken.” She has taught women’s Bible studies, spo-ken at ladies luncheons, as well as held and taught small groups in her home. “I love the idea of connect-ing with people and helping them overcome obstacles”, she says. Tracy has also conducted group coaching sessions, as well as per-sonal one on one coaching sessions. She was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. Tracy is an idealist who loves empowering people to move be-yond mediocrity, into a future filled with success, happiness and abun-dance! Her favorite Scripture that is very near and dear to her heart is Jeremiah 29:11 and she bases her life upon the promises found in that Scripture. When Helping Hurts Let’s face it, not all adult children are dysfunctional, any more than all parents are enablers. Many adult children have been raised to have deep respect for their parents and themselves. For these chil-dren, the thought of taking advantage of anyone, let alone the parents who raised them, is abhorrent. Let’s call these children functioning adult children. However, for many of us, that term does not describe our adult children. In-stead, we “parents in pain” dream about seeing our adult children live as indepen-dent, functioning adults instead of the dependent, dysfunctional adult children they have become. And no doubt many enabling parents would argue that their adult children are incapable of taking care of themselves. That may be true. However, is this because of a real physical handi-cap, a viable developmental disability, or have years of enabling crippled your adult child? And if crippled, is this disability temporary or permanent? If temporary, what can we parents do to help reverse the disability and see our adult children take responsibility for themselves? The first step is for us to accept any part we may have played in making our adult children whom—and what—they’ve be-come. We also need a better understand-ing of the difference between helping and enabling, and the wisdom and willingness to make the necessary changes in our own lives when at last we truly recognize the difference. What Is the Difference Between Helping and Enabling? Helping is doing something for some-one that he is not capable of doing him-self.Enabling is doing for someone things that he could and should be doing himself. An enabler is a person who recognizes that a negative circumstance is occur-ring on a regular basis and yet continues to enable the person with the problem to persist with his detrimental behaviors. Simply, enabling creates an atmosphere in which our adult children can comfortably continue their unacceptable behavior. When we continue to allow these be-haviors to occur, we are setting a pattern of behavior in our children that will be hard to change. We are enabling their re-peated inappropriate behavior. Then we repeat the enabling pattern with the re-sult of instilling bad habits and accepting what should be unacceptable behavior for so many years that it eventually becomes as natural to many of us as breathing. Yet all the while, a nagging feeling deep in our heart and soul tells us something is very wrong. Are You an Enabling Parent? Here are a few questions that might help you determine if you are an enabling par-ent.1. Have you loaned him money repeat-

edly, seldom (if ever) being repaid?2. Have you paid for education and/or

job training in more than one field?

3. Have you finished a job or project that he failed to complete himself because it was easier than arguing with him?

4. Have you paid bills he was supposed to have paid himself?

5. Have you accepted part of the blame for his addictions or behavior?

6. Have you avoided talking about neg-ative issues because you feared his response?

7. Have you bailed him out of jail or paid for his legal fees?

8. Have you given him “one more chance” and then another and an-other?

9. Have you ever returned home at lunchtime (or called) and found him still in bed sleeping?

10. Have you wondered how he gets money to buy cigarettes, video games, new clothes, and such but can’t afford to pay his own bills?

11. Have you ever “called in sick” for your child, lying about his symptoms to his boss?

12. Have you threatened to throw him out and didn’t?

13. Have you begun to feel that you’ve reached the end of your rope?

14. Have you begun to hate both your child and yourself for the state in which you live?

15. Have you begun to worry that the fi-nancial burden is more than you can bear?

16. Have you begun to feel that your mar-riage is in jeopardy because of this situation?

17. Have you noticed growing resent-ment in other family members re-garding this issue?

18. Have you noticed that others are un-comfortable around you when this is-sue arises?

19. Have you noticed an increase in pro-fanity, violence, and/or other unac-ceptable behavior?

20. Have you noticed that things are missing from your home, including money, valuables, and other personal property?

If you answered yes to several of these questions, chances are at some point in time you have enabled your adult child to avoid his own responsibilities—to escape the consequences of his actions. Rather than help your child grow into a produc-tive and responsible adult, you have made it easier for him to get worse. To put it simply, your helping is hurt-ing—and it’s time to stop. But trust me when I say that it won’t be easy. Although it’s high time many of our adult children begin to accept the consequences of their choices, the plain truth is we must first ac-cept the responsibility for our own choic-es—past, present, and future. Our biggest problem isn’t about our adult child’s inability to wake up when their alarm clock rings, or their inability to keep a schedule, or their inability to hold down a job or pay their bills. It’s not

about their drug use or alcohol addictions. It’s not about the mess they’re making of their life. The main problem is about the part we’re playing in stepping in to soften the blow of the consequences that come from the choices they make. The main problem is us.Ending Enabling Behavior From my experience, I’ve come to learn four life-saving truths about changing en-abling behavior.• We can pray for the power to change

ourselves.• We can help (not enable) adult chil-

dren of any age develop wings to fly on their own.

• We can find comfort in knowing we are not alone on this journey.

• We can take back our life! But it’s going to take time—and support from others.

If you’re a hurting parent who dearly loves your adult child but longs to see him at last take responsibility for his life, please take a moment to watch the video “When Helping Hurts” (Episode 6) on the audio/video page of our web site. It could save your sanity—and maybe even your adult child’s life. Video clip at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B514OfAUQ1ghttp://www.settingboundaries.com/au-dio-and-video/
