Eisenhower Edition can also be found online at www.uscsd.k12.pa.us on the Eisenhower page. Several weeks ago you received information regarding our school district’s attendance policy. The information was meant to be informative and helpful in allowing you to become more familiar with our policy and our process for labeling and tracking excuses. Our goal is to raise your awareness and understanding of just what exactly our policy is and how it impacts you and your child. Current policy requires parents to send in a written excuse within three days of the original absence. If a written excuse is not sent, the absence is considered unlawful or illegal. After each of the first two unlawful absences, parents will receive a letter notifying them of the unlawful absence. After the third unlawful absence parents will be asked to participate in a Truancy Elimination Plan (TEP). The plan is an attempt to remedy the attendance situation with both school district personnel and parents playing an equal part. If a child accumulates any additional unlawful absences after the TEP, we must, by state law, notify the district magistrate. After several weeks of tracking incoming written excuses after absences, we are finding that many absences ARE NOT followed up with a written excuse. This means those absences would be considered unlawful or illegal. I appreciate your help in working together to provide a positive and successful elementary experience for your child. If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to call Dr. Jane Walters, our school Guidance Counselor, or me at (412) 833-1600. Every year area merchants offer incentive programs that help raise dollars or points that are used to buy a variety of items that benefit the children of Eisenhower. Over the course of the last two years Eisenhower students have gained from these programs by using items purchased with accumulated dollars or points. Items purchased have ranged from tape recorders and CD players for classroom listening centers to additional sports and playground equipment.

The faculty, staff, and students of Eisenhower School would like to offer a special thank you to all of the PTA volunteers who help promote and manage these programs.  Please know that without you we would not enjoy the benefits of these programs.

Please visit the Eisenhower website to find out more information about specific programs, signing up, and school ID #’s.

The students from the AM and PM Art Clubs created oil pastel murals on the Cafe Ike windows. The fourth grade students did a magnificent job of combining to create two different masterpieces.

The fall theme is the first of four seasonal murals the students will be completing throughout the school year.

Please take the opportunity to check out their work the next time you visit Eisenhower.

Eisenhower’s Art Club is a chapter of the PA State Art Club.

Congratulations on a job well done!

WAY TO GO ART CLUB

As you know we’ve had a few name changes over the years with staff members getting married.

We are happy to announce two more name changes happened over the last two weeks. Miss Leech, one of our special education teachers, was married and is now Mrs. Yoest. The other marriage that was celebrated was another special education teacher Miss McCarron, who is filling in for Mrs. Mosler during a maternity leave, was married and is now Mrs. Finnegan.

Congratulations to both on your special days!

WHAT’S IN A NAME?
