BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST In the waters of Baptism, we were drawn into Christ, who is priest, prophet, and king and called to be “alter Christus,” “other Christs.” Christ who is priest sanctifies the everyday stuff of life, building a bridge between God and humanity. Christ who is prophet proclaims God’s love and mercy in a world that desperately needs it. Christ who is king rules the universe in loving, sacrificial service. We who are baptized into Christ are called to bring God’s love into our hearts, homes, places of work, and the wider world. We are called to show and share God’s love to oth-ers, especially those who most need the care, compassion, and forgiveness that is at the heart of Christ’s eternal mes-sage. We are called to give of ourselves beyond what might seem reasonable, in imitation of our Lord and king who gave himself on the cross and who reigns forever.

FATHER RICH REPORTS….. We come to the last Sunday in the liturgical calendar of the Church Year which is designated as the Feast of Christ the King also called the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. It was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, but after the Second Vatican Coun-cil was moved from the last Sunday in October to last Sunday in ordinary time (often last Sunday of November). The Feast of Christ the King is the patronal feast day of the Society of Christ Fathers and Brothers. Pope Pius XI together with Cardinal August Hlond (Primate of Po-land) founded the new missionary order that has a specific charisma or mission to provide pastoral ministry outside of Poland. There are presently over 400 members (priests, lay brothers and seminarians) stationed in 18 countries on 6 continents of the world. Society of Christ have parishes in such world cities as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seat-tle, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Washington DC, Phoenix, Miami, Boston. Toronto, Calgary, Sao Paulo, Rio de Jani-ero, London, Dublin, Rome, Milan, Athens, Sydney, Jo-hannesburg, Amsterdam, Budapest, Minsk etc. Until most recent years we have been blessed with suffi-cient vocations coming not only from Poland, but from the countries we serve. This year we had a young man, 29 from our Los Angeles parish ordained. I ask you pray that we again have a generous response from young people to the religiousm life and priesthood. We have a parallel fe-male order- Missionary Sisters of the Christ the King that also serve in some of the same places serving God’s peo-ple. Next Sunday we will begin the short season of Advent in preparing ourselves for the celebration of Christ coming into the world at His Nativity (Christmas). Please remember the new weekend Confession Times that began in October: Saturday and Sunday: 4:30-4:50 p.m. and Sunday morning: 8:50-9:20 a.m. between Masses. This Sunday the BLD (Open to God in the Spirit) Pray-er Group invites all to their hospitality hour after Sunday morning Masses in the St. Joseph Hall in the rectory to enjoy some refreshment and fellowship. There is no charge for the coffee and sweets, but you may make a do-nation, if you wish which will support the parish. Last week’s hospitality after the 9:30 Polish Mass contributed $50.00. Have a blessed week.

Procession

“The Mass is ended, go in peace.” At the beginning of Mass, the ministers entered in solemn procession, an em-blem of the diverse community that comes together around the altar each week to celebrate the Eucharist. As Mass ends, another procession forms, and the ministers go forth from the church. This concluding procession also acts as an emblem of the entire assembly, who, nour-ished by the Eucharist, will now go forth to our scattered homes and places of work to be a transforming leaven of the gospel in the world. At the beginning of Mass, the priest kissed the altar as a sign of greeting, a gesture of reverence for Christ. Now, the priest reverences the altar again, this time in a gesture of farewell. We gather our things and go forth as we entered—but not quite. Through our celebration of the Eucharist, we have re-newed our commitment to service of Christ our King, and we go forth nourished, strengthened, renewed—changed. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. CALLED TO LISTEN AND SERVE Jesus said to Pilate, “Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Jesus spoke to the disciples and his voice reaches through the ages in the words of sacred scripture and the tradition of the Church. In prayer, par-ticipation in the liturgy, and learning from the saints and the teachings of the Church, we grow in belonging to the truth of Christ’s love. We hear and follow Jesus’ com-mand to wash others’ feet, to love as he loves, to serve as he serves. And while it is certainly our duty to do so, there is more to our service than merely fulfilling the in-structions of another. We fulfill Christ’s command as a grateful response to the incredible love of God for us. How will you listen to and serve the Lord? How will you make Jesus the king of your heart and life?

BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY Jesus Christ is the faithful witness,

— Revelation 1:5

DIVINE MERCY REFLECTION A Zealous Heart

One of the easiest things you can do in life is be la-zy. Imagine if you had no responsibilities, had all the wealth you could ever want and could spend your days in luxury and relaxation. This would foster a very lazy heart and it would also foster a very sad heart. Rest is good, but excessive rest can turn into laziness and lazi-ness ultimately becomes very boring. This fact reveals the opposite truth also. Namely, a zealous heart is one that finds great excitement in the activities of the day. Though some may become obsessed with work, becoming a “workaholic,” an appropriate balance of rest and work produces the virtue of a zealous heart. Are you zealous? There are many things one can be zealous about in life, and not all of them good or within the Will of God. But zeal for the salvation of souls, and the bringing forth of the Kingdom of God is a zeal we must all strive to foster. In fact, our Lord wants you to have this as the highest priority in life. As you grow in holiness and closeness to our Lord, He will send you forth cultivating the Earth with His Mercy. Doing this with great zeal wins many souls for the Kingdom and produces abundant joy in your heart (See Diary #1548). Do you struggle with a lazy heart or a zealous one? If lazy, look at the effects of this in your life. The boredom and dissatisfaction you experience is a direct result. If, however, you are zealous and diligent in life, what is it you are zealous for? Reflect upon this honestly today and seek to grow in a burning zeal for the building up of the Kingdom of God. Lord, I offer to You all my work and my talents. Use them for Your glory. Help me to have true zeal for Your Kingdom and to work tirelessly for Your glory. Jesus, I desire to be an instrument of Your perfect Mercy in the world. Use me as You will. Jesus, I trust in You.

NOVENA TO ST. JOAN OF ARC Glorious St. Joan of Arc, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I kneel at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection...(mention here). Vouchsafe to recommend it to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus. Cease not to inter-cede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints praise Him through all eternity. O most powerful Saint Joan, do not let me lose my soul, but obtain for me the grace of winning my ways to heav-en, forever and ever. Amen.
