MASS ATTENDANCE IN CHURCH BUILDINGS
Tuesday evening, Bishop Zubik announced that churches can open to 50% capacity, IF the church size permits and social distancing can still be maintained.
Fr. Adam has decided we will do everything our building size permits to allow people into our Masses.
Because of our small buildings , and still having to maintain social distancing and mask wearing requirements, we will continue to seat people as they come to our Masses. The more families (3 or more) that come, the more people we will be able to accommodate. We appreciate your patience and are excited to be moving forward!

Thoughts from Fr. Adam
The month of October is a remarkably beautiful time in our area of the world. I have been so blessed in my life to spend many Autumns in different locations throughout the world, but the most beautiful place for the Season of Autumn, I always thought, is right here in Western Pennsylvania! The brilliant color of the changing leaves, the feel of the crisp yet sunlit air, and the smell of burning leaves, all encompass so many memories. Autumn is really a unique time that commemorates the end of the Summer Season and the slow but sure approaching reality of Winter. It is almost an in-between season that shows the beauty and even fragility of life as we see the very world around, bit by bit, go into hibernation for the winter ahead. I always felt that there is a touch of melancholy in the Season of Autumn, but that ultimately, it is a season of change that promises the rebirth of nature but acknowledges the seasons of life. During this particular time of the Prefaces for the Eucharistic Prayers that can be prayed during this Season, is Preface V. in the Roman Missal, which states, “God has made the changing of Seasons,” and indeed Autumn reminds us that despite so many changes our life is so precious to God, and even though life is fragile, it is so beautiful, and we are called to embrace these changing seasons in our life. Each October is set aside in the Roman Catholic Church to celebrate and defend life, and therefore October has become known as Respect Life Month. A time set aside by all believers to proclaim the immeasurable value of every person from conception to natural death. The United States Catholic Conference of Bishops reminds all of us that during the month of October we are called to “understand, value and become engaged with supporting the God-given dignity of every person — which naturally leads to protecting the gift of every person's life.” All our life, each single day is such a gift! We always want to work to protect and to promote the dignity and the value of every human life. During this Respect Life Month of October, let’s think of the ways we can value human life? How can we express our thanks to God for every little child born into the world? How can we show our appreciation to our elderly population that are so vulnerable during these days? How can we show forgiveness and kindness to one another seeing every person as a unique creation of God?
As we celebrate the changing of the seasons and are reminded of the beauty of life and how completely
precious it is, lets unite together in a spirit of prayer and thanksgiving for the wonderful gift of life that we celebrate,
this, and really every month of the year! Enjoy October in western Pennsylvania and Happy Fall!
God Bless You All,
Fr. Adam

You knit me together in my mother’s womb

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY & MISSION COOPERATION PROGRAM COLLECTION OCTOBER 17 & 18
In a year that has changed just about everything, this year’s appeal will be substantially different in the Diocese of Pittsburgh due to COVID-19. The Mission Sunday & the Mission Cooperation Program will be combined.
This collection will benefit the universal church through the World Mission Sunday appeal AND will support the missionary group, Passionist Fathers Kenya, founded in 1970 by Passionist missionaries from Italy. The Passionist Missionaries goal is to promote the memory of the Passion of Jesus Christ by witnessing and preaching to the sufferings of our time (The neglected ones, orphans and widows). Through our projects in Kenya, we are able to evangelize and promote integral human development. Our projects involve programs and activities that alleviate poverty and foster social justice and economic empowerment of the communities we serve. The collection will be held October 17th & 18th.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING
CATHOLIC?
In October our parish Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults (RCIA) journey begins. The RCIA is designed for
persons who wish to explore the Catholic faith and/or are considering
entering the Church. It is also for those adults who may be baptized
Catholic but did not receive some or any of the Sacraments beyond
baptism. We will meet weekly October-March and engage in prayerful study
and discussion of the person of Christ and the Catholic Faith in preparation
for reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and
Confirmation at the Easter Vigil, 2021. Please feel free to contact our RCIA
Coordinator, Katie Boosel, cell 724-953-1669, work 724-794-2880 or email
ST. CHRISTOPHER COMMUNITY DINNER

SEWING MINISTRY
Despite the challenges the COVID -19 virus has presented, our ministry is alive and well. We have managed to meet in alternative locations twice within the last couple months and continue to sew, knit and crochet our items for donation.
Since March, and the start of the pandemic, mask making has been our major project. To date we have made and donated over 2,000 masks to family, friends, parish members, a local cancer group, as well as the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Arizona. And most recently we sent 182 masks to a convent in Lima, Peru. (The Franciscan sisters there work with the poor.) We have appreciated your prayers and donations for our “mask mania.”
Finally, we have begun planning our Christmas Gift Bag project. In previous years you have donated health and wellness items for the bags. But due to the virus restrictions, we need to alter that plan.
This year we are requesting monetary donations. We will then purchase items for the bags. You can drop your donation in collection basket or at the parish office marking it Christmas Bags. We thank you in advance for your generosity. As we adjust to the ongoing situation, we know the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us.
DIVINE MERCY PRAYER
We welcome to join us EVERY Friday at 8:40 am in the Newman Center Chapel for Divine Mercy Prayers. Prayer time will conclude prior to the 9:00 am daily Mass.
There are Divine Mercy Prayer pamphlets available in the parish office, if you would prefer to pray from home. Just call the office, 724-794-2880, and they will mail the pamphlet to you.
