Subj: VISIT OF U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY PREP ARA TORY SCHOOL CANDIDATES TO THE U. S. NAVAL ACADEMY

1. Purpose. To promulgate a schedule for the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) Midshipmen Candidates (MC) visit and assign responsibilities for associated events.

2. Information. During the period of 17-21 October 2018, approximately 256 MCs will be guests of the Brigade of Midshipmen. These MCs will be billeted in Bancroft Hall and will observe as closely as possible the routine of their hosts, except as modified by enclosure (2).

3. Action

a. LT Dan lafrato, USN, Midshipmen Activities Officer, is the visit coordinator. He can be contacted at 410-293-7135.

b. Midshipman Luke Ledva, Brigade Operations Officer, is the midshipman in charge of the evolution.

c. The midshipman in charge of the NAPS visit and the Naval Academy Athletic Association will select 4/C Midshipmen to host all MCs. Company Officers and Battalion Officers will review the proposed escort list to ensure that selected midshipmen hosts meet the criteria of being satisfactory in academic, PRT, and conduct. Final approval authority of midshipmen hosts will be the Commandant Operations Officer.

d. Candidates are guests of the Brigade and will be treated as such. Midshipmen hosts will observe the normal routine during the period of 17-21 October 2018. Hosts should be available throughout the entire visit period (e.g. , not on restriction, weekend, Movement Orders, etc.). The hosts must stay with MCs during the entire visit, unless permission to deviate is received from their officer chain of command. MCs will observe study period and accompany hosts to various study areas, including Nimitz Library. MCs may be authorized permission, via their officer chain of command, to attend NAPS sponsored tutorials by NAPS faculty during study hour.

e. Room assignments and MCs/host assignments may not be changed unless authorized by the Operations Officer. Taps discrepancies will be forwarded to the Bancroft Hall Officer of the Watch who will coordinate with the NAPS Command Duty Officer (COO). NAPS COO cell phone number is 401-641-0752. The OIC for NAPS is LT Patrick Laughlin.

f. Company Operations Officers will utilize cots within their Company storage area. If more than 15 cots are needed, they can pick additional cots in the 1st LT Self Help Storage Area, 7B08, 7th wing basement. Hours of operation are 1250 to 1600. Hosts will pick up cots from Company Operations Officers and place in rooms prior to 1600 on 17 October 2018.

g. MCs will eat with their hosts in King Hall. MCs are not responsible for 4/C rates, but will follow as closely as possible to the daily routine of a 4/C Midshipman.

h. Town liberty for MCs will commence at 1200 on Saturday, 20 October 2018 and run until 1400, prior to the football game. It will not sta1i again until after "Blue and Gold" at the end of the Navy football game. Libe1iy will expire for all MCs and midshipmen hosts at 2359 on Saturday, 20 October 2018.

i. Midshipmen hosts will ensure MCs abide by Midshipmen Regulations and comply with the schedule delineated in enclosure (1). They will be expected to adhere to all requirements placed on 4/C Midshipmen, to include liberty constraints and Taps.

j. MCs will visit classes all day on Thursday, 18 October 2018, and Friday, 19 October 2018. MCs will wear Working Blues. MCs will integrate into respective Squads during all formations.

k. MCs will muster on Red Beach next to 2nd Wing at 1410 on Saturday, 20 October 2018 and march over to the stadium as a Unit behind 30th Company for the Navy football game. Upon reaching the stadium staging area, the MCs will be dismissed and will enter the stadium via Gate 5. They will be seated in Section 108, Rows 1-19. MCs will be escorted by the NAPS Staff Officers to their seats. MCs will not go onto the field to form a tunnel or do push-ups.

1. Company Officers and Midshipmen Company Commanders are responsible for ensuring compliance with all phases of this notice by the MCs in their respective companies.

4. Records Management

a. MIDSHIPMEN ASSIGNED A "DRAG"

1. Midshipmen Candidates (MCs) from the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) will arrive at the U.S. Naval Academy for the NAPS annual academy visit. Each MC will be assigned a midshipman who will act as a personal host for their MC "Drag."

2. In order for the U.S. Naval Academy visit to be as positive and productive as possible, the following expectations are provided for and midshipman acting as a host:

a. Each midshipman host will treat the MC like a "recruit" that U.S. Naval Academy wants to join the incoming class.

b. Each midshipman host will provide rooming arrangements that are as comfortable as possible, accompany the MC to all meals, and assist with any other basic health and welfare need.

c. Each midshipman host will take each MC on a tour of the Yard, showing them the locations of primary academic, athletics, and administrative facilities. Midshipmen hosts will inform the MCs of the heritage of the U.S. Naval Academy grounds. Additionally, midshipmen hosts will specifically provide an opportunity for the MCs to tour the Chapel, Crypt, and the U. S. Naval Academy Museum.

d. Each midshipman host will take the MC to all their classes on Thursday afternoon and on Friday's schedule per enclosure (2).

e. Each midshipman host will discuss Clubs and extracurricular activities and either "drag" the MC to their activity or help the MC attend an activity that interests him or her.

3. The annual visit to U.S. Naval Academy is a highly anticipated event in the NAPS Academic Year. MCs form a strong impression of life as a midshipman based on their experiences as a "Drag." By imparting a clear set of expectations as listed here, we will help motivate and prepare MCs to become U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen.
