Box 7557 Chandler, AZ 85246-7557 http://clubs.hemmings.com/frameset.cfm?club=azcougarclub Blue Oval Office Message for October/November 2011 – by Scott Taylor I’m really excited about our upcoming 11 th Annual show! San Tan Ford has committed to make it a big success. We are doing something new this year, we are inviting vendors and should have a great vendor and sales section, maybe even some swap meet stuff! For those wanting the details, please see the announcement later on in the newsletter, but here is a high level summary. The show will be held on Saturday November 5 th . Be sure to print out several copies and hand them out to your friends. We want to pull classic Cougars, Mustangs, and Torinos, etc. from all over the state and Southwest region. Also, I wanted to put in a reminder that the show entry is free for all Cougar owners in good standing with the club! There are probably not a lot of folks in the club that can remember all the way back to our 1 st ever club show, held that 1 st summer, in Chandler, Arizona, in the parking lot of a small restaurant. This was just a few months after the club was officially started! We had just a handful of Cougars there (maybe 10 or so?). We did have 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in attendance, and a 1969 Lincoln as well. Some of you may think, that such a small show was a failure. I beg to differ. It was one of the most memorable shows for me, and those who were there. Why is that you ask? Because it represented the start of something really great. Mostly, the 1 st show was just a few good friends gathered to talk about our passion, Cougars and classic Ford cars! And if you have that, how can that ever be failure? Here is a photo from that 1 st show! Enjoy. Best Regards, Scott Taylor, AZ Cougar club President. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 2011 AZ Cougar Club Activity Report Out Our September club outing was a trip to Bill Basore’s home, for show planning. After about an hour of hard core discussion about the show details, the group headed to the garage, or should I say the garage-mah-hall. Bill showed us all some of the finer details about 390 Cougars, and more particular XR7-G cars. Very cool stuff! Bill gave us some details about a new 1968 390 GT Cougar (white car) that he recently bought to help facilitate the re-assembly of his ultra rare 390-4 speed G car. Also, there is a rumor that Bill may be moving to a new Cave Creek address, sometime in the future. More to come on that one, I’m sure! Please join us for the AZ Cougar Club’s Big November 2011 Event, which is our 11 th Annual Desert Prowl Car show! Last year we had almost 100 cars in attendance, and this year should be just as fun! Please arrive by ~8AM to assist with show set up, and helping direct the cars into the show! See more details later on in this newsletter. Questions? Give Scott Taylor a call @ 480-612-2998 or Bill Basore @ 480-239-5537.

October / November 2011 “On the Market” Spotlight Note: This is a section of the newsletter is meant to provide a glimpse of some of the Cougars and parts that have been for sale on Ebay, Craigslist or other recently. Lots of interesting stuff! Lots of good deals still out there! There have been several 390 Cougars up for, including an X code 390 Sunroof XR7, 390 GT, and several 1969 Eliminators. This month there haven’t been a lot of 428CJ cars for sale, those seem to go in cycles. I would expect to see another batch up for sale around Barrett/Jackson time in January. One of our members, Mike Fitzpatrick scored a great deal on a 1969 Boss 429! OK, so it’s not a Boss 9 Mustang, but still was a great deal. I’ve asked Mike to share the details with us, in our next newsletter, so don’t miss that!

October / November 2011 Treasury Update from Jim Tunney Club Treasurer No update this month.

October / November 2011 Membership Update from Dan Gire – Membership director No update this month.

Check out this super cool photo of the Dearborn Assembly Line – where you can see 2 brand new 1970 Cougars being assembled, and in the far distance, a 1970 Mustang Fastback (yellow car). Check out the ingenious rail system that the cars moved on. There are in fact 4 cars visible, the black firewall of the closest car can also be seen – note the fenders have not been mounted yet – so you can’t tell if it is Mustang or Cougar!

October 2011 Club Membership Communication / Spotlight Note: This section is meant to provide an opportunity to get to know other members of the club better, or hear about deals they have run across or can offer you. If you would like to volunteer to provide an update about yourself or your Cougar for this section, please contact Scott Taylor – thanks! Recognize the car below? Probably not. Even for those Arizona Cougar Club members that have been around a long time, the car probably doesn’t look all that familiar, as it has undergone quite a transformation. The car below is owned by life time AZ Cougar club member Fred Hanks. Fred picked up this Cougar quite a few years ago, and it has now been completely restored and transformed. It is looking great! Unfortunately Fred Hank moved from Arizona to Oklahoma now, so we may not get to see the car anytime soon, unless he brings it out for our November show! We look forward to seeing it someday!
