What have we learned and how much more have we left to do? The RV Keary research vessel will be alongside in Galway harbour providing a hands-on demonstration of mapping techniques and systems. » Ireland has the best ocean energy resources in the world and some of the most innovative technologies are being developed and tested here. MONDAY 2ND JULY 2012 3RD ANNUAL SMARTOCEAN CONFERENCE The 3rd Annual SmartOcean Conference ‘Getting more from our Marine Resources through Technology’ will take place in the Marine Institute, Oranmore.

Over 120 national and international delegates will gather to hear Thought Leaders from across the Marine and ICT sectors, State Agencies and Research Institutes.

The discussion will focus on the challenges and lead opportunities for translation of innovative technologies into business solutions focused on developing Aquaculture, Security & Logistics and Offshore Energy. Visit www.smartocean.org for the full conference programme and registration details.

TUESDAY 3RD JULY 2012 SMARTOCEAN INNOVATION EXCHANGE The inaugural SmartOcean Innovation Exchange, a high-profile networking, showcasing and innovation recognition event will take place on the 3rd July at the Ocean Wealth Showcase in the Global Village.

The objective is to support companies to innovate in the Marine sector and to excite the investment community and the public about the potential of new technologies and opportunities opening in emerging or established Marine sectors.

The Innovation Exchange is open to companies (Irish and international) to demonstrate both their technology solutions and their ability to successfully exploit marine resources in a commercial & sustainable manner.

An expert panel of judges will short-list 15–20 companies (registered on the Smartocean website www.smartocean.org) against innovation criteria and nominate them to showcase their innovation at the Ocean Wealth Showcase at the Global Village on the 3rd & 4th July. Three of the nominated companies will be recognised for their innovations and the 2012 Innovator of the Year will by sponsored and announced by SmartBay Ltd at the Awards ceremony on the 3rd July.

WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY 2012 SMARTOCEAN INNOVATORS SME’s and Multinationals will continue to exhibit alongside their R&D partners in the Third Level and State Agency Sectors.

THURSDAY 5TH & FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012 MARINE CAREERS & RECRUITMENT EVENTThe Marine sector is diverse and there are a huge range of potential careers at sea and onshore. Come and find out about the opportunities for training and for jobs in the marine sector.

A wide range of companies (shipping, technology, research, energy etc.) will be actively recruiting on the 5th and 6th of July in the Ocean Wealth Showcase and experienced HR specialists will be on hand to provide advice on preparing for a career in the Marine sector.

Or if you’re not ready for a job yet and you are interested in training or research opportunities there will be lots of relevant information available from the Third Level sector.

BIM’s Coastal Training Unit will be on site to let you know what is involved and what courses are available in the seafood area.

FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012 FOCUS ON THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT, DEEP SEA ECOSYSTEMS & CLIMATE CHANGE The oceans cover 70% of the earth’s surface and our very survival depends on them. Over the past 20 years Ireland has taken its place among the international leaders in the field of ocean science and has produced some exciting and revealing research on our marine environment. On the 6th July a number of distinguished and expert speakers will share their work with us.

SATURDAY 7TH & SUNDAY 8TH JULY 2012 STAY SAFE AT SEASafety is a key consideration for anyone involved in sailing or working at sea. In order to highlight the importance of ‘Staying Safe at Sea’, the Ocean Wealth Showcase exhibitors will be offering safety talks and advice to visitors including lifejacket health checks and stay safe at sea practical workshops.
