I am Responsible. I wear my hat
or I play in the shade.
Kindergarten 2020
What a wonderful transition to school our
new Kindergarten students have enjoyed!
It is hard to believe they have only been
here for a week; they are settled, engaged
and we have had very few tears. Well done
to all and a special thanks to our Year 6
‘buddies’ who have been such reliable
mentors.
P&C Meeting – Tuesday 11th
February
The first Parents and Citizens (P&C)
meeting for 2020 will be held in the
staffroom on Tuesday evening from
7.00pm. All new and returning parents (and
citizens) are encouraged to join us. P&C
provides the opportunity to support the
school, stay informed, provide input into
our direction, and meet with other
members of the school community. It also
sends a strong message of support to
children. I hope to see many of you there.
Baby-sitting is provided.
Empathy
Our school-wide focus on the disposition
‘empathy’ continues this week. The
concepts of seeing multiple perspectives is
complex and invaluable for us all. I urge
families to continue the dinner table
discussions around empathy.
Weather
There has been a remarkable turnaround
with the recent weather, with NSW
receiving significant rainfall. There are
predictions of further rainfall over the
weekend. Please monitor the school’s
website for updates on whether, and to
what extent, the school is impacted.
Swimming Carnival – Monday
Don’t forget we have our swimming
carnival scheduled for Monday. This is for
all students in Years 3-6 along with those
Year 2 students who can swim the length
of the pool and turn eight this year. We
are watching the weather. While we are
planning to go ahead at this point, we will
make a decision on Monday morning. Keep
an eye on the school’s website and
Facebook for updates. I will also send a
notification via the School Stream app if the
carnival is postponed. Please note that if
the carnival is postponed on Monday,
school will operate as normal and children
will need to bring recess and lunch to
school.
Safety at drop-off and pick-up time
Road-users are reminded to exercise
extreme care near the school. There is a
large volume of traffic – especially at drop-
off and pick-up times. Remember that the
‘kiss and ride’ area near the bus zone has
very specific rules: you may only stop for
up to two minutes and must stay with your
car.

Safety at drop-off and pick-up time

Also, be sure to give way to pedestrians on
the school crossing when the flags are dis-
played; ensure your children only enter and
exit the car on the kerbside; and never call
children to cross the road unaccompanied.
Please drive carefully, slowly and obey all
rules as we ensure the safety of all children.
Leaders Induction Assembly – Friday
2.15pm
We are looking forward to the leaders
induction assembly this week, when we
formally welcome our captains, vice-captains
and parliamentarians into their roles. This will
be in the hall during our new assembly time
on Friday from 2.15pm.

Principal
Modelling empathy is one of the best ways to teach our children about
empathy.
Here are some ways you can model empathy in conversations.
Listen without interrupting the person speaking
Listen with your head and your heart
Focusing on what the other person is saying and the meaning it has to them
Ask questions to clarify the other person’s views and emotions
Show openness and tolerance of different views, attitudes, experiences and positions
Withhold the desire to help or ‘fix’ the problem
Encourage the other person to continue until they are finished
Acknowledge the other persons words and feelings
Be open to correction or additions by the other person so you "get it"
