The Ocean City Chamber had a great visit in Annapolis for the Annual MD Chamber’s Meet the State. We

were able to share our legislative priorities and network with other chambers and business across the state,

as well as meet with legislators face to face and discuss our issues. The Maryland Chamber has a fantastic

senior legislative team that is working alongside many statewide associations, as well as the local chambers of

commerce including Ocean City, to support business friendly legislation such as a provision with Mandatory

Paid Leave that would increase the 106 day exemption to 120, as well as oppose legislation that overregulates

small business such as Increased Minimum Wage (Fight for Fifteen) and Restrictive Scheduling. Unfortunately,

a bill has also been introduced that would repeal the Governor’s Executive Order mandating that all MD

schools start after Labor Day, which we are fighting. We will also continue to monitor any legislation that

could impact the J-1 SWT program or relevant to limited residential lodging. Please keep sending emails and

letters pleading how these issues impact your business!

As the session progresses, please view the legislative updates in the weekly e-lert and on our website at http://oceancity.org/the-chamber/maryland- legislative-updates/.

With regard to Federal l issues, our chamber along with the Ocean Pines Chamber, HMRA and Town are working with OCEANA to

plan a public forum to educate businesses and the public on the effects of Seismic Testing and Offshore Drilling on Wednesday

February 20th at the Dunes Manor, More details will be forthcoming.

We also invite you to join us on February 21st at 1:30 pm for a fantastic Seminar on the Generational Disruption of the Workplace

and Marketplace. Please join Chuck Underwood, CEO of the Generational Imperative, Inc. for this fascinating and brilliant seminar!

This seminar is targeted at Owners, General Managers, Sales and Marketing professionals and Customer Service staff as well as HR

professionals. This is also the same date and location of the Annual Business Expo, so after the session, you are welcome to

participate in the Expo, which begins at 4pm. The Expo is free to attend with complimentary appetizers and Happy Hour drink

specials. Please note that there are still a few exhibit tables left of you wanted to showcase your business. A sincere thank you to

our sponsors, the Ocean Downs Casino and Grand Hotel and Spa.

Finally don’t forget to join us at the February Business After Hours on the 7th at Dry 85!

Warmest Regards,
