On February 14th, 2018, the Wetlands Institute brought Salt Water Gene Pools to Ocean City High School. The Wetlands Outreach Coordinator, Haley Faith, came to visit Mr. Keyser and Mrs. Georges’ Biology classrooms. We learned about our local salt water marshes and their aquatic inhabitants. Students were able to interact with the creatures and sort them according to morphological characteristics. Organisms such as Horseshoe Crabs, Croakers, Sea Urchins, and Decorator Crabs were all able to meet our inquisitive high school students. Major thanks to the Ocean City Free Public Library for making this wonderful educational experience for our students possible.

Mrs. Georges’ Advanced Anatomy & Physiology classes were very fortunate to have Dr. Amerigo Falciani, a radiologist with Atlantic Medical Imaging, come to our class on Thursday, March 1st. Students learned about the different modalities radiologists can currently use to image the human body. Dr. Falciani also discussed what it takes to become a radiologist

and a radiology technician. Dr. Falciani was accompanied by Dominick Siconolfi, a 4th year medical student at Rowan University. Students were able to hear firsthand about what medical school truly entails. Lastly, the class was able to see new technology used in stents and filters that react to body temperature. We were grateful for such an exciting and informative presentation.

Consumer Bowl This week past week, twelve business savvy students participated in the Consumer Bowl. The New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl is an educational competition for high school students across the state. It was established in 1997 to educate young adults on a variety of

consumer issues and is approved under the New Jersey Department of Education Professional Development Guidelines. This event enables teachers who coach students to obtain professional development credits. Students are selected by team captains and are able participate free of charge. Each team has a chance to advance to a state-level competition, which is determined during a County Competition.

This year, we had two teams compete in the County Competition. Team A, captained by Paulie Stryker, was composed of Alexa Johnson, Ariel Stell, Brandon Pokrass, and Hannah Stanks. Michael Beebe anchored Team B along with William Farnan, Josh Barnes, Garret Longstaff, and Meghan Finley. Brent Earl served as a teacher/advisor to each student participating in this year's Consumer Bowl. The two teams performed well during all three rounds of the competition, but it was Team B that emerged victorious. Both teams

gained valuable experience and were provided with useful information on relevant consumer issues such as ID theft, credit card scams, and internet fraud. This event helped prepare these

students for real world situations which may arise in their future; perhaps in a particular job or life situation, and was a positive experience for all participants

Mrs. Rubina Cooney-Carroll’s International Arts and Crafts Class and Mrs. Debbie Cathcart’s Fashion Marketing & Merchandising Class collaborated to make drawstring bags out of various fabric pieces. Students worked together choosing a design, cutting and sewing the drawstring bags in the Art Room. Fun was had by all!

Quilts for the Critters! Each craft student made a Crazy quilt for the stray cats under the Atlantic City boardwalk. Purrfect for the chilly nights!

Key Club Events CHOP Foster Care Kit Collection - February 26th- March 2nd, 2018 While our Key Club was up at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia our tour guides had suggestions of how we can help out more in for them. They mentioned a particular event that would assist one of the forgotten about causes: their foster care program. CHOP has foster children come in the hospital periodically and when they arrive often times they have friends and siblings with them. Due to the hospitals loving policies they won’t turn down anyone from the hospital. In addition, the hospital wants to send all the children home with something because they don’t always have as many nice amenities as we do at home. Our drive raised items such as toys, clothes, books, activities, and arts and crafts for children in need. We raised around 1,000 items for the children! This success is thanks to our first, second, and third place teams. The 1st period classes collected items and were motivated by first and second place being awarded a pizza party. After Friday, March 2nd collection, in third place was Mrs. Norton with 182 items, second was Mrs. Dill with 380 items, and Mr. Wheeldon’s period 1 class collected a whopping 456 items. We cannot wait to give all the items to the children at the hospital. Thanks to everyone who collected!

The Amazing Race - March 1, 2018 The Amazing Race at Ocean City High School came back this 2018 year and our Key Club was not going to miss it. We had a great time learning about personal fitness and team bonding while having an amazing time. The event organizers had over 20 events in different rooms to participate in and finish in the least amount of time as possible. We compete from everything from brain teasers to bowling to obstacle courses. Our team had a great representation finishing among the first five teams! Although we may not have come home with the first place prize, we have bonded as club members and had a fun night. And who knows we’ll definitely be competitors next year!

Wesley Manor Prom - March 9, 2018 After months of preparation, excitement, and anticipation we had our Annual Ocean City High School Key Club-Wesley Manor Senior Prom! It was a smashing success. Our Tropical Tiki Tango was decorated better than any other prom with homemade decorations and paintings. We had over 30 key club members there helping decorate and later breaking it down with the Seniors. After our week of poster making and decoration preparation we were highly satisfied. Although some of the seniors were unable to get up and dance with the rest of us we brought the party to them at their tables and were able to chat and play games to entertain all ages. In addition, we limbo'd and hula hooped to conclude the night with a funny sight and some fun activity. Not only were the seniors we happy to have a great energetic night, our key clubbers had a great time learning dancing from the seniors' young age. We won't be giving up this event any time soon because it is a blast.

OCIS Spring Carnival - March 17, 2018 Our key club had an amazing turn out to the Ocean City Intermediate School Spring Carnival. We attended the carnival to help out the students, teachers, and parents associated with OCIS to put on their big event. This event is to kick off spring starting the following week. All the kids in attendance had a great time and the key clubbers who helped put the event together also had a blast helping make the games happen!

French Club won the 8th annual Trivia Contest competing against the Latin and Spanish/Italian club members. Allez Les Bleus!
