Introduction and use cases

Introduction

This manual provides guidelines about how to use Océ Wide format Printer Driver 2 forMicrosoft® Windows® (Océ WPD2) in order to print from Autodesk AutoCAD®.

Scope of the guidelines

The procedures described in this manual have been selected to be as simple as possible(amongst several possibilities).

Those guidelines have been tested for standalone workstations on the following versions:• Océ WPD2 v2.8• Autodesk AutoCAD 2013

As a result, they apply to:• the Océ wide-format technical printers (without folder) supported by Océ WPD2• all Windows environments supported by Océ WPD2, on a workstation ( to get the list of

supported environments, go to the Océ website: "http://global.oce.com/products/wfps-drivers/downloads.aspx")

• all AutoCAD document sizes

NOTEThose guidelines are not guaranteed in a server environment.

The 2 main use cases

According to your situation, follow the recommended procedures:

When you print from AutoCAD,you usually use

Then, we recommend you to

Standard DIN or ANSI papersizes(In this case, you produce out-puts of a standard format)

1. Select your printer in the AutoCAD plot window.2. Configure in Océ WPD2 the print settings for the standard

format you use.3. Save the PC3 plotter for the format (optional).4. Select your PC3 plotter in AutoCAD (optional).5. Select your paper size in AutoCAD.6. Define the print settings in AutoCAD and print

Jump to the Use standard paper sizes (ISO ANSI) and Printfrom AutoCAD® on page 11 procedure.

A unique custom paper size(In this case, you produce out-puts of various sizes, includinglong prints, adapted to the sizeof the drawings)

1. Select your printer in the AutoCAD plot window.2. Create a custom paper size in Océ WPD2 and define the

relative print settings in the driver.3. Save the PC3 plotter in AutoCAD.4. Select your PC3 plotter in AutoCAD.5. Select your custom paper size in AutoCAD.6. Define the print settings in AutoCAD and print

these options will be transmitted to the printer driver.

NOTEPay attention to the automatic behaviours of the printer. Some print settings (for instance,[Rotation] or [Media] set to [Automatic]) will impact the printout.

The Preview thumbnail, available from the AutoCAD Plot window, reflects the scale andorientation settings. It adapts to your drawing and to its page size.

Troubleshooting for colour plots

When to do

When a colour print file is very complex or heavy, it can happen that it is incompletely printed ona low volume printer (Océ ColorWave 300): only a part of the drawing is printed out.

Procedure

1. Open Océ Express WebTools for the printer.2. Go to the [Preferences] - [Print job defaults] and deploy the [General rasterisation settings.]3. Select [ Heap size] and log in.4. Set the [Heap size] to the maximum value (1024 or 2048 MB for Océ ColorWave 300):

5. Submit the print file to the printer.

Result

The printer will benefit from a higher memory size to process the complete file.

In case a part of the drawing is still missing in the plot, move the data processing to theworkstation:1. From the AutoCAD [Plot] window select [Properties...] and [Custom Properties...] to open the

WPD2 driver settings.2. In the [Options], open the [Advanced options].3. In [Data processing], select [Processing on the computer]:

Example

In case processing on the computer consumes too much processing capacity of the workstation, you could alternatively decide to re-adjust the page size:

Print quality

Introduction

The following 2 settings impact the quality of the printout:• The [Shaded viewport options] - [Quality] setting in AutoCAD• The [Quality] setting in WPD2

Quality of the Shaded viewport options

This setting affects the way the shaded plots (usually 3D solids) are rendered.

Select the quality and the resolution will automatically be set (in DPI). This DPI resolutiondepends on the resolution set on the WPD2 driver.

[Quality] in WPD2

This setting affects the quality of the whole plot by sending to the plotter appropriate commandto control the print mode (for more details on the Quality setting, refer to the WPD2 User Guide).

Merge ControlVectors intersection colour is handled, in AutoCAD, through the [Merge control] setting.

Find it in the [Plotter Configuration Editor], as shown below:

When you select [Lines Overwrite], the colour of the top line is the one applied at the intersection.

When you select [Lines Merge]:• the colours of the lines are merged at their intersection• the colour of the lines are merged with the colour of the background

NOTEThis option only applies to the PC3 plotters. It is set inside the PC3 configuration (not in theWPD2 driver).
