HALEYMIXON- The Hale Mixon wedding last night at the Baptist church was a beautiful affair The church was crowded with friends and admirers of the fair bride and others curious to see so pleasing- and Interesting an event Not only was tho church full but the observers extended into the vestibule and out onto the sidewalk while others pass- ed ¬ around to the annex and through- the glass doors viewed the brilliant ceremony v The church building around the al ¬ tar was a bower of plants flowers ferns vines bamboo magnolia pines and cedars The festooning that ex tended from the center or big chan ¬ delier in front of the rostrum in six strands reaching either side of the room was ornamented with vines while wedding bells 25 In number and Intersporced with white bows that In the glare of the electric lights and the well dressed attendants lent a charm- to the scone that was truly lovely and inspiring While the audience was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the bewitching bride Mrs W J Byrne a very sweet singer entertained delightfully in singing Rose of My Heart accom ¬ panied by Prof W S Pike on the or- gan ¬ and Miss Mary Connor on the violin As the wedding party advanced Prof Pike und Miss Connor began Mendelssohns wedding march chang- ing to the bridal chorus from Lohen ¬ grin as the bride entered the door leaning on the arm of her father Mr Charles J Phillips The music con- tinued ¬ while the bride approached the altar During the ceremony the or- ganist ¬ executed Shumans German love song in soft tones Mr Emmett Robinson received most gracefully the arrivals in the vesti- bule ¬ while the ushers Mr Edward Ray of Pensacola Mr John Pelot of Jacksonville and Mr Alfred Beck seated the guests The three front seats were reserved for the Intimate friends of the family The attendants entered in the following order Miss Reblo Marders of Mississippi entered with Mr Joseph Bell Miss Annie Atkinson with Mr C L Sis y trunk Miss Pauline Sullivan with Dr t Clarence Taylor of Mississippi Miss Carrie Williams with Dr Thomas of Aluchua Miss Maggie Lee Bryant of Mississippi with Mr John Pelot of Jacksonville and the first bridesmaid Miss Rachel MIxon of Jacksonville s with Mr Emmett Robinson The couples alternated the first grooms ¬ man passing down the north aisle and the bridesmaid down the youth aisle the next couple changing the maid down the north aisle and the groom down the south aisle ancL oon until all had passed and as each reached- the rostrum they crossed over and faced each other Miss Mary Phillips I sister of the bride entered alone down the south aisle followed by the bride and her father- As the bride took her position under the big white wedding bell suspended from the chandelier Mr Haley the groom accompanied by his best man t exGoxernor James K Vardaman of Mississippi entered from the vestry and met tho bride and her maid of honor facing the pastor of the church 4 Rev Henry E Gabby who in clear and Impressive words of exquisite dic V tlon and of lofty and hallowed senti- ments + ri spoke of the sacredness of the marriage vows and how jealously they should guard the divine fires of love I and affection so that they should nev- er ¬ burn low tout In the glow of its I light and warmth be a perpetual joy and benediction to their souls and life It has seldom occurred that a more Impressive and lovely ceremony was spoken than by Rev Gabby last night and every one of the audience seem ¬ ed to catch the Inspiration his words evoked- It + is not necessary to speak in detail- of the gowns of the bride and her at ¬ tendants They were of rich white silks beautifully trimmed with lace to add charm If it were possible to add anything to the attractiveness of the lair young ladies who wore them And hero we but express a unanimous opinion that in all the many lovely wedding ceremonies enacted in Ocala for the past decade none surpassed- the charm of manner the ease and grace of motion the facial beauty and divinity of form of the lady attendants and the conventional raiment of the gentlemen that made up the ensemble- as they grouped under the wedding- bell A picture that Impressed and left a memory so sweet that we are thankful that we now and then can see so attractive a picture After the ceremony the attendants and a few intimate friends of the family repair- ed ¬ I to the home of the brides parents Mr and Mrs C J Phillips on South Third street where they were enter- tained ¬ at a reception In the parlor under a beautiful white wedding bell stood Mr and Mrs Phillips Mr and Mrs DeWitt Greenwood Haley Mr James K Vardaman Friends extend- ed ¬ congratulations and viewed with pleasure the large collection of wed ¬ ding presents Miss Marie Burnett on the piano and Mr Charley Fishel on the violin discoursed sweet music Those who assisted in the reception were Mes- dames Sistrunk Dickson Johnson Blake and W P Edwards The decorations of the dining room were in keeping with the rest of the house and there Misses Betty Wray Mclver Eugenia Fuller Grace Hat chell and Carrie Williams served a buffet upperw of delicious refresh- ments ¬ on an appointed table that evoked exclamations on its dainty furnishings The souvenirs of the ev ¬ ening presented by Misses Mottle Wil- liams ¬ and Florence Mellon were little gilt wedding bells The bride and groom left on the early morning S A L train for Jack- sonville ¬ and Atlanta where tonight- Mr Vardaman and Mr Taylor will give the couple a theater party and from there the newly wedded pair will proceed to Jackson Miss their future home The brides traveling suit was of elephants breath broadcloth with silk waist gloves and shoes to match Her shapely head bore a big black velvet hat with a large white bird for trimming The bride was reared in our midst and with her pleasing man ner and sunny disposition she won friends wherever she went and who- ever ¬ she met She was indeed a fav- orite ¬ with all and while we regret to lose her charming personality we Known In her new home she will soon r e k ryv6 l i oIW 1 > 111 j be surrounded by admiring and loving friends- Mr Holey is a young man of fine at ¬ tainments and with bright prospects- He is not only exGov Vardamans private secretary but is assistant commissioner of agriculture of the state of Mississippi- A GOOD JOKE ON THE bRIDE AND GROOM Just prior to their appearance at the church Mr and Mrs R S Hall took Mr Haley and Miss Mixon for a ride in their auto out the Silver Springs road WHl Mock was at the wheel and a few miles from the city the un- expected ¬ happened the machine re ¬ fused to go and the journey was held up The situation became embarras ¬ sing as the immediate repair of the I car aeomed uncertain and Mr Mock telephoned to the garage for goodness sake send another car and a minister instantly This little Incident in the antinuptial auto ride of Mr Haley and Miw Mixon explain why the bridal couple were tardy at the wed- ding ¬ hour HOLIDAY BARGAINS- AT THE GLOBE I Be sure THE CIRCUIT COURT The court was engaged all day yes- terday in taking evidence in the eject ¬ ment suit brought against Mr E C Connor by J M Elliott Jr of Gal s den Ala The witnesses examined were Mr Elliott Mr and Mrs Con- nor ¬ t Mr Young of Washington D C who last year purchased a tract of land from Mr Connor near Heather Island and Mr J H Harden Mr EI ¬ liotts office man It seems Mr and Mrs Connor gave a deed to Mr Elliott of all their prop- erty ¬ to secure an indebtedness with t the understanding that as soon as tim balance was paid the property so j fled > d was to be reconveyed to the I Connors It is alleged by Mr Connor that when an accounting was asked so that the money could be paid Mr Elliott declined to do so and h + nc the suit The time of the court was talon UM this morning by arguments of thp contending counsel Attorney Will H Hocker spoke for Mr Connor and At- torney ¬ W W Hampton of Gainesville appeared for Captain Elliott and the deeds covering the Connor property Both gentlemen made able and force ¬ ful arguments The noon hour had arrived at the conclusion of the at- torneys ¬ arguments and the judge ad- journed ¬ court for dinner Mr G S Scott was another witness in the case- in regard to insurance papers on the Connor property charged that body The jury return- ed ¬ a verdict in favor of the defend- ant ¬ Mr Connor after belnk out some time The grand jury reported yesterday- no true bill against Raymond Rose a colored youth of Kendrick 11 years old who it seems was imbued with Jesse James ideas and threw a tie across the track at Kendrick intend- ing ¬ to derail the train and then rob the passengers The engineer saw the obstruction in time and no damage- was 1 done The jury evidentally did not think the boy way scarcely re- sponsible ¬ A CARD OF THANKS- To the Voters of Ocala If I were possessed of any local ambition it has been fully gratified by the very flat- tering vote that I received at your hands in the election Tuesday But it was not for this that I entered upon the race for reelection to the office of mayor nor yet was it to gratify- the wishes of my friends I was en- couraged ¬ to do so strengthened in the belief that I can be of some service to our cfto- To make our city grow and flourish- we need and must have a system of sewerage and in the accomplishment- of which we are most fortunately sit- uated ¬ We need and must have soft pure water We need and must have an extension of our street paving We need and must have an enlargement- of our electrical development Whatev- er ¬ Influence I possess shall be used for the bringing about of these iltili tiesIf I cannot be of service to the city along these positive and progressive- lines because of an inharmonious council I may be of some service along negative lines in warding off harmful legislation that will work a hardship on our citizens In either event I shall do my duty conscien- tiously ¬ and faithfully as I see it Again thanking you
