7-4 Areas of Trapezoids, Rhombuses and Kites
M11.C.1
Objectives:1) To find the area of a trapezoid, rhombus
or a kite
The height of a trapezoid is the perpendicular distances h between the bases.
A = 1/2h(b₁ +b₂)
Example: Find Area A car window is shaped like a trapezoid
shown. Find the area of the window.
Theorem: Area of a Rhombus or a Kite The area of a rhombus or a kite is half the
product of the lengths of its diagonals. A = 1/2d₁d₂
Example: Finding the Area of a Kite Find the area of kite ABCD.
Example: Find the Area of a Rhombus Remember the properties of a rhombus!! Find the area of rhombus EFGH.
