It may also include information regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services and details about their life such as education, employment, religious and civic affiliations and information about the family such as relatives, both living and deceased.

The News & Observer and our community of newspapers offer print and online death notice packages to provide this service in a respectful and effective manner. Death notices published in the N&O are posted online for one full year at www.legacy.com/newsobserver/Obituaries. The online listing includes the Legacy Guest Book service. Death notices that are published in the community papers only will appear online for 1 year at each community paper website. IN MEMORIAMAn In Memoriam is an announcement placed by family members or friends in remembrance of a loved one. An In Memoriam may be used to mark an anniversary of one’s passing, a special holiday like veterans or father’s day or birthday. Scripture, poems and photos are wel-comed. In Memoriams appear on The News & Observer’s death notice pages or can be ordered for community papers as individual ads.

DEADLINESThe obituary department is available from 9am until 4:30 pm weekdays and 1:00pm – 4:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. The deadline for death notices in The News & Observer is daily at 4:30pm for the next day. Deadline for Community papers varies and is listed by publica-tion on the preceding page.

LEGACY GUEST BOOKThe Legacy Guest Book is a Web-based tool for friends and families to share thoughts and memories. It is included with the online post-ing of the death notice. All entries are reviewed for appropriate content before appearing online. There is no limit to the number of en-tries. Guest book remains online for one full year.
