DRUM CORPS BLASTS By Jerry Minto

Greetings Nobles from the members and friends of the Hadi Drum & Bugle Corps. A big Thank You to everyone who worked or made a purchase at our concession stand at the Shrinersfest Car Show. This has become a great activity and thanks go out to everyone for their hard work in putting on such a large event. The entire Shrinersfest weekend was a great time starting with the Fish Fry and ending with the run-walk on Sunday morning. I am sure next year will be even bigger. Another Thank You goes to everyone who participated in the onion sales. The unit sold in excess of 450 bags and we hope to sell even more in the coming year. Great Job! New Nobles, if you have not chosen a unit to become affiliated with, the welcome mat is out at the Drum & Bugle Corps. Come visit us any Friday evening and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. September will be here before we know it so get signed up for the Great Lakes Shrine Association parade. A sign up sheet is being circulated in the unit room so get signed up before its too late. I hope everyone filled out the Noble Questionnaire which was in the June “Hot Sands”. This form will be available for use by the Membership Committee. So, if you have not filled it out, take a few minutes to do so. The calling committee will keep you informed which parades we will be participat-ing in, so please say “Yes” when you are contacted. Our July stated meeting will be held on July 10. Please plan to attend and get the latest information on things that are happening in your unit. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Paper Crusade held on May 30th. The D & B manned the buckets at the Schnucks Market on First Avenue and were very successful in this endeavor to make the general public more aware of our Hospitals. The annual get together at Jack Liken’s camp will be held on July 25. More information on this will be forthcoming. Please check your “Hot Sands” for the many activities being held at the Temple and try to attend as many as possible. Hope to do this again next month and bring you the past and future happenings of your Hadi Drum & Bugle Corps.

MARINERS WAVES By: Cory Hollingsworth Vice Commodore~2009

Email: [email protected]

From our Commodore Robin Marshall and the Bridge, “Thank You” to all the Mariners who were able to take part in Steak Night at the camp May 20th. The food and camaraderie were great! Thanks to Butch Branson for the Thompson BBQ Beans, Jerry Ritter for the Roca Bar Salad, Dave Wiley (Commander) and the select Mariners who cooked the great steaks we all enjoyed. Thanks to Dave Wiley and all the hard working Mariners that revitalized the camp with the new deck and stairways. Your hard work and long hours show! The membership appreciates the dedication to this much needed project! A Special Mariner Wave to the few and select Mariners that showed up, worked, and ran the tent for the Shriners Fest. Thanks to Ron Markham, LP Dallas, Dave Wiley, Dewayne Mullens, Smitthy Mc Ginnis, Tom Weyher, Dennis Reneer. Even though the weather wasn’t the best; we survived the storm and made the best of the day that Mother Nature gave us! Great job to Potentate John Hudson, Lady Julie, Chad and his staff on a great fish fry! The food, attendance, and entertainment was one of the best yet! From the Bridge and the existing membership, A “Special Mariner Wave” to David Horn and Troy Sauer as they have joined the Mariners and have decided to set sail with us. Welcome aboard the Mariners Club gentleman! Camaraderie, making decisions through careful planning, and execution is the key to our growth! Everyone’s participation is the key and you are the key to our continued success! “I am Proud to Be A Shriner!!” A “Tip of the fez” to the Jeff Kempf for the oysters on the ½ shell and the shrimp at the Mariners Suite for the Potentate’s Ball in April. The gesture was much appreciated! It was apparent that all the nobles and ladies that stopped by enjoyed the delicious sea food combination, hospitality; and cold drinks. Thanks to all those who helped put together the suite for another successful ball. Thank you to all the Mariners who showed up and helped cook at the Super Flea Market the weekend of June 6th. Also, thank you to all those Mariners who worked the Paper Crusade May 30th raising $518 at Schnucks Green River Road. As we all know as nobles of the shrine, those “HOT GRILLS” at the flea market and wearing our Red Fez’s in our missions helps make much needed monies to support our great temple and hospitals we support! I encourage every

Mariner to “get involved” and take part in the parades and functions that are upon us this summer. The reward is camaraderie with all The Mariners who take part and Having Fun Helping Kids! I am proud to announce that through our hard work at the flea market, we earned $300 in our tip fund to donate to the transportation fund. Great Work Mariners! **Just a reminder from the bridge that whites are preferred dress for the summer parades. Please watch your Hot Sands for times and date of this summer’s upcoming parades and events. “Let’s keep ringing that bell and keep the old Boat a float” Mark Your Calendars: Attention All Mariners: The time is upon us to start selling those much needed ad sales! Your dedication to the ad sales program is crucial for much needed revenues to support our circus and beloved temple! 7/3-7/5 is the next cooking event at the super flea market. 7/4 cook at temple parking lot for 4th of July celebrations on the river front. 7/15 at 7pm is the next Mariners Meeting at the River Camp. Discussed Business and Motions: Following Motions were approved & passed by the membership: All meat & drinks purchased by The Directors for Shrine Fest were purchased for June Flea Market. The club purchased trailer from L.P Dallas and agreed to have Southern Indiana Body Work build the trailer. In 2010, Mariners will team up with Directors on the Shriners Fest Event. $50 hole sponsor for Potentate’s Golf Outing 09/21. We do not want to leave any Mariner behind on shore this year! The Mariners want to also remember our fallen & sick members. Your presence is missed and remembered! The Mariners continued focus is and always will be to give a 100% in any job we take on and generate revenue for our club to help the temple and the hospitals in any way possible! Our mission is to proudly display “Having Fun, Helping Kids!” Come jump in the boat of old memories and friendships and see what the buzz is about! The Mariners voyage continues to be exciting! Why Not Join? “We ride; we don’t march in the

parades!” Let’s continue making 2009 a rewarding voyage aiming for Success and New Friendships!!

Note that you have a new writer since we have lost our secretary David Cotton and his Lady as they have moved back to her home country. Both will be missed but we wish them well, especially pending the arrival of their new baby. HOSPITAL STAFF By Jack Benjamin

We are getting a big influx of requests for applications at this time. This is a good thing. It is an opportune time to remind you of the kinds of things we can help kids with and the things we cannot. Our hospitals can help a child with orthopedic problems, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. We have no hospital available for such things as brain surgery, dental problems, etc. We also get requests for help with patients at Riley Hospital. We are not able to give any assistance to these families. If you have a question as to whether you should refer to a patient that you are not sure we can help, contact me at 812-618-5588.

PATROL POINTS By: Angelo Ruehmkorff / Secretary~09

Email: [email protected]

Happy 4th of July from the Arab Patrol. As I write this article I am sitting on the beach in sunny Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I can not help but to take a moment to think about the freedom that the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence have given us by “top line” signing the document in 1776. They not only signed the document, they followed through & made sure that it was implemented. God Bless America! Patrolmen, as we look toward our goal of growing Patrol membership for 2009, we need to consider those Nobles that we have been “top line” signers for. What are they doing now? Have you invited them to come and join the fun and camaraderie? I can honestly say the reason I am active today is because I had direction from my signers, and for that I am very thankful. Take a moment and call those Nobles that you “top line” signed, and invite them to join the Arab Patrol.

Believe it or not the Fall Ceremonial is only 4 months away. The Membership Committee has asked the Nobles of the Arab Patrol to recruit at least 4 new members in 2009. Gentlemen, I am confident that we can obtain this goal. Take some time to think about who you can recruit and MAKE IT HAPPEN! A BIG THANKS to all of the Patrolmen that helped out at the Paper Crusade on May 30th. It is great for us to get out and share our philanthropy with the public. So many of them do not realize what we do for the children. CIRCUS AD protection ended on June 19th. Patrolmen, let’s get fired up and sell some ads. Ad sales can have a substantial effect on the Patrols receivables for the year! Consider purchasing a business card ad for yourself. Ad sales will close on July 24th. We want to thank all of you that made the Vincennes and Freedom Festival parades. We will be emailing you details on parades coming up. Fellas, commit to making a few parades this year. We all know what a great time we have MARCHING down the streets and seeing those smiling faces.

Our next Patrol meeting is scheduled for August 7th at 7:30 P.M. We would like to invite all of the Patrolmen that we have not seen for a while as well as any other Noble that is interested in joining this great group of guys. Keep in mind that the Great Lakes Shrine Association Ceremonial Session will be in Merrillville, Indiana September 17-20. Illustrious John Hudson has asked that we get a group together and plan on attending. Please let us know if you can attend so we can start planning transportation needs. The Arab Patrol always remembers our sick and shut in members. Patrolmen, please keep John Welch’s wife Karen and Ermon Hoover in your prayers. They are both going through some health concerns at this point. Know that our thoughts are with you and we hope to see you soon.

Commit to be active in your unit! HAVING FUN & HELPING KIDS

DIRECTORS NOTES Vice President: Griffin Bush

Who is not proud to be a supporter of the Hadi Temple; if this sparks a thought, why not support the Hadi Directors. The Directors are a staff that is comprised of extremely determined individuals. Anyone who enjoys gratifying friendship foremost or could contribute a little hard work is always welcome. The Directors staff meets every first Wednesday of the month in the temples parking lot above the ticket office. We love new members and promise to let all new Directors welcome new nobility for an afternoon of showing new members the “ropes”. Despite having fun, our staff would like to let all soon to be members what were really contributing.

The Directors staff is known as a welcoming committee in spite of much more. Every new noble will travel through our commencement with an extremely memorable day of excitement. The initial day of becoming a Hadi Shriner is something we provide that is comradely based. Every Shriner has witnessed “first hand” good fellowship upon becoming a noble presented by the Directors. All new noble should be especially enthused about joining the only group who presents our welcoming brothers. We also offer new members the support to stay with a unit throughout their journey as a Shriner.

Our Director is nominated and then elected by voting practices to serve as the chairman of the Hadi Directors Staff. The Director & his staff are obligated to serve at the will and pleasure of the Illustrious Potentate. The Directors Staff takes great pride in co-ordinating anything asked upon by the Divan, and especially the Illustrious of the present year. Hadi Directors are responsible and very proud to gather all amenities of the potentates asking for the annual Potentates Ball. We also correlate with the Hadi Mariners who are very supportive within our organization sharing members and conjoined functions.

Despite weather, the car show was a success!!! All Hadi organizations could have hoped for better turnouts, but weather permitting, we all enjoyed the event amongst friends. From VP to Vice-Commodore, I would like to give a “tip of the fez” to Corey Hollingsworth. The mariners always come up huge when called upon and the dedication Corey showed myself amongst others in a time of need is very appreciated.

** Mark your calendars for July 4th **Also Kids party in our parking lot July 25th On behalf of the Evansville Hadi Directors unit and all nobles,

“THANK YOU”. Within this organization we as a team are making a major impact that no sole member could ever imagine. Any noble who supports an event or even contributes dues should be proud to be known as a Shriner.
