    What is the Tool Bar?

    With the Tool Bar you can carry out all the instructions on the database that you will need. Itappears on every screen in CMPIC so once you have learned to use it on one screen it carries out

    the same functions on all others.

    The complete set of icons appears below.

    How do I use the Tool Bar?

    As you move the cursor over the icons you will see a short description of what that icon is usedfor in the hint text eld below the tool bar.

    !ere is a fuller explanation of how you use the various commands.

    " Press this button andenter #uery values

    Pressin$ this icon puts the screen into %ueryMode. This will then enable you to search on thedatabase for records which meet your searchcriteria. In &racle' the wildcard search uses the (symbol to represent )missin$* characters. +o ifyou were loo,in$ for a cable with )---*somewhere in its number you would enter(---( in the eld you are searchin$.Alternatively' ---( would loo, for a numberbe$innin$ --- and conversely (--- loo,s for anumber endin$ in ---. The same approach isvalid usin$ either alpha or numeric characters.

    This command can be used in two ways. If youpress the icon on rst enterin$ the screen it willbrin$ bac, all the records in the database.Alternatively' if you have entered search criteriaas described above' usin$ this command willsimply brin$ bac, the selected records.

    / Press this button tocount the number ofmatchin$ records

    This command can be used in two ways. If youpress the icon on rst enterin$ the screen it will$ive you the total number of all the relevant

    records in the database e.$. in the Cable+chedule screen all the scheduled cablesindependent of status' in the Cable Type screen itwill count all the di0erent cable types etc.Alternatively' if you have entered search criteriaas described above' usin$ this command willsimply show the total number of records which

    will be retrieved if you then run the #uery. Thenumber of records will appear at the top left ofthe screen.

    1 Press this button tomove to the previous

    record

    This icon and its counterpart below allow you tomove throu$h the records one at a time when

    they have been retrieved.

    If the records are displayed in a list type screenrather than a screen which shows one record at atime' this command and its counterpart below isused to scroll up a set of records at a time

    < Press this button tocreate a new record inthe database

    5sin$ this command creates space in thedatabase for a record to be inserted. &nce youhave clic,ed on the icon you can start typin$ indata and usin$ the TAB ,ey on your computer to

    move between elds. To avoid repetitious

    typin$ there are a number of shortcuts you canuse. +ee below.

    - Press this button todelete a record from thedatabase

    This command will delete the record whichcurrently appears or the record on which yourcursor rests if in a list type screen

    "7 Press this button toduplicate the data fromthe previous record

    >irstly clic, the )Create a new record in thedatabase* icon as explained above. 5sin$ thiscommand now duplicates the data from therecord which was on your screen before creatin$this new record. Any data which CMPIC will allowyou to copy will be copied. +ome data ?e.$. cablenumber@ will not be copied because these have

    to be uni#ue and as such need to be enteredexplicitly. +ee )Press this button to duplicatethe previous eld* below.

    "" Press this button to clearthe record

    If you ma,e a mista,e or want to start a$ain' thiscommand clears the screen. It does not deletethe record so you don*t need to create anothernew record before enterin$ data a$ain.

    " Press this button to clearthe current eld

    As above but eld by eld

    "/ Press this button toduplicate the previouseld

    This command allows you to copy any eld fromthe previous record. In the example above' wherecable numbers are not copied because they needto be uni#ue' use this command to copy thecable number from the previous record. ou canthen amend the cable number to ma,e it uni#uerather than enterin$ the whole number.

    "1 Press this button to viewthe latest &racle error

    In the unli,ely event of database errors occurrin$'perhaps because of missin$ table permissions'the 2atabase Administrator or Cloudis +upportmay as, you to use this button to obtain moreinformation about the error.

    very time you chan$e' create or delete a recordyou should commit it to the database by clic,in$this icon. If you have made chan$es and you tryto exit the screen' CMPIC will as, you whetheryou wish to ,eep or discard the chan$es.

    "; Press this button to exitthe current form

    This command is used in two ways. >irstly to exitthe current screen. If you have been )drillin$down* screen by screen' usin$ this command willbac, you out of the drill down screen by screen.The second use of the icon is to ta,e you out of%uery mode.

    Why are some $elds di%erent &olours?

    In CMPIC there are some elds which are identied by specic colours to help the user.

    =oyal blue These elds indicate that if you double clic, on them there will either bea :ist of alues displayed for you to pic, from' or that you will be ta,en toanother screen displayin$ more information about that particular record.

    2enim blue This colour identies MA32AT&= elds. There are not many of theseand most appear in the :ibrary data screens. If you do not ll in all themandatory elds you will not be allowed to save the record.

    ellow This is used to hi$hli$ht the record you are currently in when usin$ amultiDrecord bloc,.

    Pale $rey These elds are optional for completion or they display data which hasbeen created in another screen and is shown for information.
