The hellish Hydrogen Bomb is here-a living, terrifying reality!

JUSt how hellish is this H-Bomb? Thefacts defy imagination. It is the kind ofbomb that can be built to he as powerfulas the nation constructing it desires.The size most spoken of is an H-Bomb1000 times as powerful as the A-bombsdropped on Japan. Bur it could bemade many times more powerful thanthat! The process employed in the A­bomb is {ission, That in the H-bomb is[usion. The reason the Hvbomb was notproduced in the first place is that noway was known to explode it. It is likeigniting a tremendous pill" of dry brushsoaked in gasoline. There was no known"match" to ignite and set off the terrific

super explosion of hydrogen.It required a temperature equal to

the fusion of hydrogen in the sun, 20million degrees centigrade. But thehighest temperature man knew bow torealize on earth was around 6.000 de­grees centigrade. There was no "match"powerful enough to set off the hydrogenbomb. But the scientists at Los Alamosproduced a fission atomic bomb thatgenerated a temperature of 60 milJiondegrees centigrade at the instant of itsexplosion' This is three times the tem­perature of the interior of the sun!

How Hellish Is the H-Bomb?

Although an H-bomb can be mademany times more powerful yet. let usconsider how hellish is the Hydrogenbomb generally mentioned-IOOO timesas powerful as the A-bomb.

To be most effective, it would bedetonated a few miles in the air abovethe target. In a millionth of a secondthe A-bomb trigger would explode hor-

rifying fury three times hotter than thesun, causing the hydrogen atoms to fuseand instantaneously unleash imagina­tion-defying destruction on the greatcity below. Directly below, in a circleten miles across, everything would beinstantly vaporized! Total destructionwould occur to everything in a circletwenty miles across! In an area 40 milesacross the buildings would crumblein flames, and the people suffer horribleburns.

Heat would burst over the groundbelow first, igniting instantaneous fires35 miles away in all directions-overan area 70 miles across! Everything in­flammable would burst into flame. Therewould be a tapering off damage by fireas far as 20 miles farther out-coveringa total circular area 110 miles across!People even in these farther-out pointswould suffer lethal burns.

Then, almost immediately after thisburst of heat as if the sun had suddenlytouched the earth, the BLAST would rockthe earth. Burning buildings would bepulverized or crumbled to the ground.The explosion would rock an area of300 square miles. On the out skirrspeople and buildings that withstood theheat would be crumpled by the imagi­nation-defying blast.

But this is not all! Following this, allfury would break loose! The roaringheat churning the atmosphere wouldset off mighty hurricanes!

How hellish is the H-bomb? It ismore hellish than the human mind cangrasp! Yet this is the comparative"peaceful" form of the H-bomb. This iswhat is called the "non-rigged bomb."A bomb constructed in the "rigged"form would liberate a huge cloud equalto 5 million pounds of radium. Thisradio-active cloud could be carriedthousands of miles, destroying all lifein its diabolical path! This is whatProf. Albert Einstein referred to whenhe said it is now possible to annihilatelife from off this planet!

The peoples of Europe as a wholewant such a united Europe. But theywill never permit America or Britainto bring it about.

Germany is the economic and mili­tary heart of Europe. Without Germanysuch a federation of nations is impossi­ble. Yet the other nations of Europewill not trust Germany or a Germanleader. Still, in spite of this, it is proba­ble that none but a German can pro­vide the dynamic, inspired leadershiprequired to organize such a politicalmilitary federation.

Needed: A Supreme Authority

As our own foreign correspondents,Dick Armstrong and Herman Hoeh, re­ported to you from Europe last summer,the only possible SUPREME AUTHORI1Ywhom all European nations and peopleswould trust to HEAD such a new-createduniversal Empire is a universal RE­LIGIOUS power. And that is exactlywhat PROPHECY says shall happen (Rev.17) !

The stage is already set! Conditionsin Europe are now ripe!

All that is lacking, now, is the new SU­PREME LEADER! But what must be per­fected is a political and a military fed­eration. While none other than a greatand universal and international religiouspower can become the SUPREME AU­THORI1Y that can UNITE these na­tions and weld them together, with theirmany conflicting and competing inter­ests-yet a CHURCH cannot organize,and provide the executive political-mili­tary administration for a political-mili­tary EMPIRE!

HITLER Probably Alive!

Now, with this in mind, let us ask,WHO could possibly be the evil politi­cal-economic-military genius who, underand with the blessing of the SupremeReligious Power, will be able to or­ganize and head such a gigantic Empire-to SWAY the peoples of all Europewith his oratory and knowledge of masspsychology into a whipped-up fanaticalfervor for a new Fascist attempt to con­quer and rule the world?

THIS MAN, called "the Beast" in Bi­ble prophecy, IS ALIVE AND PLAN­NING THIS VERY THING TODAY, as yetunknown to the world! WHO CAN THISMAN BE?

Life at Ambassadorby Rod Meredith

XBASSADO R COLLEGE will soon be­gin its seventh year. Just whatdoes the day-to-day life of a stu­

dent at Ambassador consist of? Are thestudents here so religious-minded thatthey have no time for recreation andfun? What is the outlook for an incom­ing student at Ambassador College?

As a graduate student, I am going torecall those never-to-be-forgotten ex­periences at Ambassador, and will tryto give all interested readers a com­pletely frank idea of how the college"atmosphere" here at Ambassadorstacked up to me.

Typical Collegiate Skepticism

Four years ago I was a freshman stu­dent at my home-town junior college inthe medium-sized midwest city where Ihad grown up. I was active in student af­fairs and had been all through highschool where I had excelled in suchsports as track, football and boxing.

But now I was in college taking aphilosophy course and becoming skep­tical of the world as a whole.

Yet I was somewhat interested in re­ligion, and had been encouraged by myuncle to listen to "The World Tomor­row" program over XEG. I found thatMr. Armstrong's sermons made myplace in the world seem more real thanthe abstract philosophies I had beenstudying. He made God seem moredefinite and genuine to me than theidealistic speculations and political non­sense I heard in the big Protestantchurch I was attending.

God had always seemed real to mebecause my parents had taught me topray when I was a small child. But, asI pored over my philosophy books, dis­turbing thoughts came into my mind. Iearnestly desired to find out-some way,some how-what life was really allabout.

Then I Came to Ambassador

During the next summer a series ofcircumstances together with a letter ofencouragement from my uncle made medetermine to come to Ambassador Col­lege.

Immediately I began to wonder,"What will my friends think?" Most atthem had gone, or would go, to thenearby state university. I had plannedto do the same.

At Ambassador I would probably missa lot of college life,-or would I? I

asked myself if the students out therewould be like the "Bible college stu­dents" I had known in the past. Wouldthey all be either "sissies" or "intel­lectuals?" Were they a lot of timidpeople just hiding behind their Bibles,or did they live a full and purposefullife? I wondered--

After I came to Ambassador thesequestions began to clear up-and howhappily!

Because of the small student enroll­ment that year, I was thrown into inti­mate contact with every other student.Most of the men students lived on thethird floor of "Mayfair," our wonderfulstudent residence.

I had the privilege of rooming withHerman Hoeh, then in his junior yearat Ambassador. I found him to be abrilliant student, but also the kind ofguy you like to be around. There were alot of other fellows like that, too. Someof the other students had been onathletic teams, and one of we other newstudents and I enjoyed telling one an­other about our "mighty deeds" in theboxing ring.

And, as in every dormitory, we hadsome "practical jokers" around. Yes,most of us were still "green" in Bibleunderstanding. But beside our desirefor fun and laughter, we all had aserious purpose in coming to Ambas­sador.

"Pretty Nice, After All"

We let the older students sort of setthe pace around the campus. We newerstudents were inclined to waste a lot ofour time at first, but we soon learnedthat we would have to keep busy inorder to make the grade here at Am­bassador. I found the courses were more"rugged" here than in college at home.This was partly because of the smallsize of the classes, the daily personalizedinstruction, and consequently the neces­sity of preparing one's lessons for eachclass.

The academic standards at Ambassa­dor are maintained at a high level, andevery professor is of unusual calibre.But I soon discovered another uniquething about our faculty; every professorhas a "heart." I began thinking thatcollege life here was pretty nice afterall.

The course in Bible under Mr. Arm­strong was of primary interest to methat first year. The class was somewhat

informal, and all the students really gotto know Mr. Armstrong. Also, we wereable to discuss freely what the Bibleitself said about various points-andnot be contradicted by a lot of man­made teachings.

It was a pleasure to know that wecould accept the plain, simple state­ments out of the Bible. We went into astudy of the theory of evolution in class,and learned BOTH sides of the question.After studying the TRUE Bible story ofcreation, and then reading and discus­sing the theory of evolution, we agreedunanimously with the apostle Paul whenhe warned Timothy to avoid the "vainbabblings and oppositions of sciencefalsely so-called" (l Tim. 6:20).

The new students soon found thatMr. Armstrong was neither a wild-eyedreformer, nor a sanctimonious person.He is a profound student of the Bibleand a man of action. He strives to be a"doer" of the law, and not a hearer only.He believes in serving God and his fel­low man with all of his might andstrength-and not being sanctimoniousabout it, but wearing a smile wheneverpossible.

Indeed, this is the attitude of thechurch and college here in Pasadena.We try to give God the credit for whatis accomplished, though, because weknow that it is the power of God'sHoly Spirit which enables his servantsto perform the great work that must bedone.

Life at Mayfair

Our life at Mayfair was a lot differentthat first year than it is now. Since therewas only one girl student, Betty Bates,who has since become Mrs. Gene Mich­el, the fellows all cooked their mealsin a separate kitchen that year. Bettyate with Mrs. Mann, our "house moth­er." We had a lot of fun at mealtime,and fixed some marvelous "concoctions"to eat. We tried to buy health foods,though, and seemed to get along well.Paul Smith from Louisiana was ourchief cook and turned out to be a goodone.

Al! the students were working theirway through school, so we had to keepbusy in order to work, study, washdishes, eat and sleep. We all workedaround the grounds here at Mayfair orat the college doing such jobs as paint­ing, trimming trees, transplanting treesand bushes, and cleaning up the grounds

and buildings. Most of the fellows havecome from farms, so we had a lot of funseeing what the "farm boys" could doand what they liked as compared withus "city boys."

Why We're Here

Once I got adjusted to my new en­vironment, I began to realize more thanever that all the students were here foran underlying serious purpose. We allwanted to learn marc about the Bible,and about the God who created us, andour relationship to Him.

We were all in dead earnest aboutthis, yet we didn't want to "swallow"anything. So we studied and discussedthe Bible and tried to grow in trueChristian living; but we were carefulnot to go off the "deep end" on any­thing, Some of us were baptized earlythat fall. Others waited until later. Noone was pressured or even asked whyhe didn't accept the truth, repent, acceptChrist as personal Saviour, and be bap­tized.

That is one unique thing about Am­bassador College-everyone is recog­nized and respected as a free moralagent and allowed to rnake his own de­cisions completely in such matters.

I was rather skeptical at first andwanted to "check up" on Mr. Armstrong,and the work and college. DUL I soonlearned by the "fruits" that this institu­tion is wholly dedicated to AlmightyGod, and although human errors aresometimes made, rhey are admitted andcorrected whenever they are discovered.I also learned that this work is basedupon the Word of God and is not sub­ject to the error of modern "churchian­iry." I was baptized in December.

Older Students' Example

In the meantime, the older studentshad been setting a wonderful examplefor the newcomers.

They put into practice the principlesof Christian living, day in and day out.They were diligent students of the Bi­hie, and were glad to discuss Bible sub­jects with us. Also, we began to realizethat they were keeping close to God inprayer.

Followiug Christ's example, they madeno effort to pray openly. Rather, it wasa very private affair. Sometimes we new­er students would waken in the veryearly morning to find our roommatesgone for no apparent reason. Often Iwould accidentally see some student{'merging from an empty closet or store­room. Nothing was ever said, but Iknew that they had an intimate rela­tionship with God which I lacked.

Their example helped me a lot, andI am sure it helped others. This articlemay make some of our students self-

conscious for a little while, but I wantto give you co-workers a really inti­mate knowledge of them. I am proud ofAmbassador College and of our studentbody, and I know yuu will be when youlearn more about them.

Campus Life Today

Now that we have a much larger Stu­dent body, campus life at Ambassadorhas grown in interest and variety. Butthe sincere desire of the students tolearn and to liue God's way still makesAmbassador, in my opinion, the mostunique, worthwhile, and wonderful col­lege on this earth.

In the athletic sphere, we have hadmany unusual advantages. Some seasons,we had a swimming class at the "Y"which was a great source of interest andenjoyment.

At the college we have facilities forvolleyball, badminton, tennis, track, andtable tennis available to our physicaleducation class and all interested stu­dents. The "musclemen" even have aset of barbells in the basement at May­fair!

We are especially proud of our re­cently built tennis courts. Since thecollege is rapidly growing, these arenecessary to provide the right kind ofexercise and recreation for our students.These two courts are among the finest inthe country since they incorporate allthe best features and lighting improve­ments. God has certainly blessed us withthese outstanding facilities for tennis.

Our student council is the source ofmany social occasions. It has sponsoredmany enjoyable "beach parties," mixers,and other student activities.

Every year we go on several fieldtrips which are highly interesting aswell as educational. They take us to

such places as Hollywood, Mr. Wilson,Griffith Park, and other points.

These activities all help to developpersonality and poise and are an integralpart of a student's training here at Am­bassador. Although these are only a

An Invitation

As one who has been "through themill" here at Ambassador, I would liketo say to all prospective students: Ifyou like good, clean fun, if you aren'tafraid of work, and if you're sincerelyinterested in learning about the Bibleand about the God who made you, ifyou earnestly want a good education,then be sure to come to AmbassadorCollege next fall.

Don't get the idea that all the stu­dents are going to be "preachers." We'renor. Ambassador is a liberal arts college,and fellows and girls alike come hereto acquire an all-around education basedon sound principles.

. But God's work is growing, the endof this age is drawing near, we need towarn this world of its wrong ways. Sointerested students should realize thatthis college provides training not onlyfor this life, but helps you to understandthe meaning of life, and to prepare forthe H"/arid Tomorrow, where we shallspend the next ten billion year.r! Isn'tthat important?

All of you listeners should pray withme, as Christ said (Mat. 9: ')8), 'Prayye therefore the Lord of the harvest,that he will send forth labourers intohis harvest." God's work is now goingaround tbe world. We need the rigbtkind of God-called, thoroughly trainedhelp. Whether in the office here orabroad. in speaking, writing, or what­ever, God's work is going to need youngpeople who are willing to give theirlu-es to God, and let Him work throughthem.

This work is hard and taxing. It re­quires self-sacrifice and a willingness to

Regardless of your motives in com­ing, remember that Ambassador cannotbe compared with other colleges. Theymay have more buildings and physicalequipment, but you'll get more personalinstruction here. Most important,though, this is the ONLY college whereGod's true way of life is taught andpracticed.

What Shall W e Eat?by Isabell Kunkel

M AN Y of us are unnecessarily illanel weak because we aren'teating the right foods. It has

been over one year since the first articleon foods appeared in the Good News.So many have asked questions that wewant to have a series. Here are someof the questions sent us.

Are Dried Fruits Good Food?

A common idea is that sulphur-driedfruits should not be used because vita­mins have been destroyed by this meth­od. You probably know that sulphurfumes are used during the drying oflight colored fruits such as peaches,apricots and pears to preserve the natu­ral color. This affects vitamins A and Conly slightly, but vitamin B 1 is entirelydestroyed.

Since prunes, raisins and most figsare naturally dark, they are not processedwith sulphur but are dried in the sun.Sun-drying does little harm to the Bvitamins, but the vitamin A is largelydestroyed by the exposure to heat andair as it takes longer to dry fruits in thesun. Since you need all these vitaminsfor a balanced diet a fruit compote con­sisting of both types of dried fruitswould therefore provide a suitable bal­ance of these vitamins.

No dried fruit need be cooked. Justwash the fruit in lukewarm water onceor twice to remove any foreign matter,place them in a container for whichyou have a lid, pour on enough boilingwater to cover the fruit, cover with thelid and let remain overnight. They willbe plump and soft, and will keep severaldays if placed in the refrigerator. Al­though most need no sweetening, brownsugar or honey may be added to thefruit before the boiling water is pouredon.

How to Cook Frozen Food

Have you wondered why the cookingdirections for frozen food say to boilthe water before placing the vege­tables in the pan? Here's why. Watercontains some air. When it is heated,this air is driven off. If the food is placedin the water before the air has beeneliminated, some of the vitamins thatdissolve in water, especially vitamin A,are carried off with the air as the waterapproaches the boiling point.

So boil the water before you cookfrozen or fresh foods in it. Use a smallamount of water for most foods­only as much as is necessary to steamthem tender. A container with a tight

lid is always the most satisfactory. Ifyou don't have such a container, put aheavy object on the lid to prevent itfrom lifting and letting out the steam.

After putting the frozen or fresh foodinto the boiling water, bring it to a boilas fast as possible. Then reduce the heatso that it simmers, and do not lift thelid uui il yOll are fairly sure the food iscooked. Avoid stirring vegetables andfruits during cooking as this mixes airin again and will cause loss of morevitamins during the rest of the cookingperiod.

Reheating any leftover food destroyseven more vitamins, especially vitaminA, so try not to cook any more thanwill be used at one meal. If food is leftover, it can be used in healthful saladsinstead of being thrown into the gar­bage can.

Shall We Take Vitamin B?Some people who have an inadequate

diet are afraid to take Vitamin B supple­ments because they fear they will be­come overweight due to an increasedappetite. Nutritionists tell us that whileB vitamins will restore an appetite tonormal, any amount above the body'srequirement will not create an excessiveappetite. On the contrary, an inadequatediet often is the reason why peoplecrave something more.

Adelle Davis III her book Let's HaveHealthy Children, page 260, states: "Acraving for sweets almost invariably in­dicates a deficiency of protein or of theB vitamins. When these nutrients aresupplied, the desire for sweets dimin­ishes or disappears."

However, this holds true only forconcentrated vitamins you may obtainin a NATURAL form as in wheat germ,brewer's yeast and rice polishings be­cause these contain other necessary fac­tors besides the vitamins for which theyare taken. Some of these factors areiodine, calcium, protein and various en­zymes. From laboratory experiments ithas been learned that these other con­stituents are necessary to enable thebody to use the vitamins that are knownto be present.

Therefore, vitamin tablets which con­tain only certain pure vitamins withoutthese other factors} do no! produce assatiJ!actory results as NATURAL Jupple­ments.

Blackstrap molasses is a good sourceof all the B vitamins except one-thia­min or B1 , which is destroyed by heat.

Should Protein and Starch Be Eatenat the Same Meal?

It is becoming a common belief thatwhen starchy food and protein foodsare eaten together, neither one digestswell because different secretions areneeded to digest each one. Is this neces­sarily true?

Have you ever considered the factthat both protein and starch are foundtogether in individual foods? We allknow that wheat, corn, dried beans andpeas, nuts and milk contain both pro­tein and starch or sugar. There is scarce­ly a protein food we eat that does notalso contain some starch. Possibly theonly available foods that do not containstarch are muscle meats-roasts andsteaks, for example. But even thesehave calories in the form of fat.

Just to settle the question, an experi­ment was conducted in which threegroups of healthy adults were used. Onegroup was given bath meat and starchyfood, another group only starchy foods,and another group were given onlymeat. By various tests it was determinedthat there was no difference in thelength of time which each of thesegroups required to digest its meal or inthe thoroughness of its digestion.

When certain food faddists learnedof this experiment, they said that theyhad advised non-mixing of protein andstarch only for people who were ill.So the same procedure was tried ongroups of people suffering from manytypes of illnesses. Amazingly enough,the results were the same: No differencewas noted either in the efficiency of di­gestion or of the time required whenstarches were combined with proteinsor eaten separately.

But, as a note of warning, most peo­ple know only the wrong kind ofstarches-white bread, spaghetti, maca­roni, potatoes peeled before cooking,not to mention a host of breakfastcereals-and it is little wonder they havetrouble.

In her book Let's Have Healthy Chil­dren, page 266, Adelle Davis says: "Eventhe poor starchy foods, such as potatoesand cereals, have sometimes been slan­dered. As long as a food is unrefined andis prepared in such a way that the nu­rrienrs God put into it are largely re­tained, it usually remains an excellentfood regardless of how high its starchcontent."

The nations of Europe would fall inline. Here, at last, would be the su­pREME AUTHORITY whom they couldtrust. Here they would believe they seethe Hand of GOD! Outstanding among campus activitiesof late is a wedding shower given bythe students of Ambassador for Mr.and Mrs. Garner Ted Armstrong. Teddecided, upon meeting a very interest­ing and beautiful girl from Texas somemonths ago, that he had been a bachelortoo long. Being a man of action, it wasnot long until the vows had been takenand he was no longer a free man. Ofcourse, i'v1rr. Ted Armstrong, formerlyMiss Shirley Hammer of Gladewater,Texas, would have a more lengthy anddetailed story to tell of their romance,but this will have to suffice for now.

The wedding rook place in Glade­water and within a week's time thebride 'and groom were here in Pasadena.The group who gave the shower sentout invitations which they themselvesprinted (with the help of the printingdepartment of the college). Scheduledfor the night of the 21st of March at7: 00 P.M. in Mayfair student residence,the shower went off without a hitch.

The excited hum of conversation thatprevails .u all gatherings such as thisrang thru the halls of Mayfair. Prompt­ly at seven the honored pair arrived,and the proceedings of the eveningstarted. First, there was the flow ofheart-warming congratulations to thenewlyweds; and then the punch andcookie line to start everybody off. How­ever, the anticipation of the crowd andthe curiosity of the couple soon broughtall to one central room where sat a tableladen w ith the gifts of all who came.

As each present was opened, a waveof oh's and ah's would wash over thecrowd, Shirley would give a little squealof delight and Ted would fumble forthe next package. Just their actions andthe look on their faces told each andeveryone of us of their grateful appre­ciation; but as a true Texan Shirleyadded a warming epitaph of thanks toeach gift, and Ted, practically stunneduy il all, well-managed his rhank-you's,The event was one grand success!

Lure of theCamellia Garden

If you were to stroll away from themain college building here at Ambas­sador and walk down the windingsteps toward the beautiful lower gar­dens, you would along the way haveto pass by the Camellia Garden. ButUJould you pass? Could you pass thisinspiring setting, part of the charm ofthe Ambassador campus?

Or would you be magnetically forcedby the ever-present powers of natureto sto p? Now, if you stopped, as thewriter has often done, you would prob­ahly step off the original path into a

paradise of magnificent camellia trees.Skipping to one tree covered with

camellias, you spy one-a luscious flow­er in full bloom. Up on your tip toes!Bend at the waist! Take a big breath!Hum, that is strange; it doesn't smell.But you are not disappointed, for yourealize that God made the flower _so ex­quisite to the sight that it did not needto affect the sense of smell. One moreglance, and then off you go to anothertree to find, surely enough, camellias,but the blossoms are altogether differ­ent in appearance from those on theother tree. In fact, almost every treein the garden is of a different variety.Such variety' Such beauty!

At your finger tips are some of theworld's most exquisite flowers. Youmeditate, "Should I pick one?" If youare like me, you will find it quite cJiffi­cult to leave every flower in its place.

Man, even if he were to try for cen­turies, could not begin to imitate any­where nearly the perfection and thebeauty of a single petal of a flower.Remember what Christ said about thelily: "Solomon in all his glory was notarrayed like one of these."

After viewing every last camellia treein the half-shaded, half-sunny plor ofgrass-covered ground, you reluctantlytake your departure. On the way back to

the main path, your head instinctivelyturns to look over your shoulder for onemore wistful look. Never will you for­get the lure of the Camellia Garden.

Festivals Heldin Pasadena

Here in Pasadena as in every placewhere God's people have gathered, thePassover and Festival of UnleavenedBread were observed. On the eve of thePassover day with 118 present from Cali­fornia and Washington, the Passoverwas conducted with solemnity and rev­erence by Herman Hoeh assisted byRaymond McNair, recently ordainedministers

Again it was brought forcibly andvividly to our minds by this commem­orative service how great is the compas­sion God had for the physical and spir­itual welfare of human beings when heallowed His Son to be beaten withstripes and left to die for our sins on adespicable cross. Each of us commem­orated again, not only his death, but alsothe excruciating pain he suffered whenhis body was broken open with stripesto pay the penalty of our physical trans­gressions so we might be forgiven andhealed. What a blessing and rare privi­lege given to a diseased and afflictedhumanity. As a final part of the Passoverservice, Mr. Eckert from Hondo, Cali­fornia, read many of the inspiring wordsof Jesus in those last hours of His Pass­over.

The following evening, the night ofthe festival of unleavened bread, we rejoiced with about 140, including chil­dren. There was a short explanatoryservice and then we conversed with oneanother over the festive banquet tablesabout the many wonderful material andspiritual blessings God has given us.

Since we are a physical and materialcreation yet, our physical health det~r­

mines to a very great extent our SpUlt­ual growth. Raymond McNair, in hissermon the next morning explained thenecessity of our practicing and main­taining sound health habits to the up­building of our bodies which are thetemples of God's Holy Spirit. A posi­tive, confident mental attitude towardlife's responsibilities is of immeasurableimportance to your health.

Which Is the TRUE Church?There are more than 300 denominations in the United States. Couldall of these conflicting sects be the ONE TRUE CHURCH which

JESUS promised that he would buildHis church. He prayed that Hischurch would be one, not many

divided and confused denominations.But he also warned that there were

to arise many false teachers and minis­ters, deceiving the MANY, founding dif­ferent churches which would profess tobe the churches of Christ.

John, one of the twelve apostles, sawthis very thing happen in his lifetime!He said many went out from the truechurch (I John 2: 19). In III Johnverses 9 and 10 he warned against falseelders or bishops who were thrustingthe true members of God's church outof the loud congregations.

Jesus Christ the Revelator madeknown to John that the true churchwould be a scattered and persecutedchurch that would have to flee for overa thousand years from the persecutingsword of a great false church. CompareRevelation 12 and 17.

The church that Jesus promised tobuild, which is composed of those whoare filled and led by the Spirit of God,is to be guided into trttth through allages despite enemies from without andapostates from within who would profeJJto teach the truth.

His church is a commandment keep­ing church, not a political organization.It faithfully retains the testimony ofJesus Christ recorded in inspired Scrip­ture (Rev. 12: 17). This church recog­nizes Christ as its head and it is subiectto His government.

WHICH CHURCH IS THIS TRUECHURCH that iJ to contintse throughall agel' and exists today teaching andpreaching the same truth that Christand the apostles commanded?

How We Can Know Which Is theTRUE Church

The true church must be the churcht hat jesus founded. It must have beenfounded when He founded it. And itmust have been founded ubere Hefounded it.

Now let's notice rhe plain facts.Almost all Protestant churches-as

their own members admit-were found­ed too late! They were not founded byJesus Christ but by men at least 15centuries after [estes fOllnded HiJ church.

Of course, many of them claim to bereformed churches, that is, they claimto have restored the truth which waslost by some parent body. T hUJ theymus: ultimately admit that they claimtheir origin FROM THE CATHOLICCHURCH. The common arrurnption isthat the Catholic Church was the truechurch that went wrong and needed re­forming and so these protestant bodiesarc its rightful successors!

Now the question is this: Was theCatholic Church founded by JeJuJChrist when He founded HiJ church?

When Was the Church Founded?The Scripture shows that the New

Testament church began on the day ofPentecost described in the second chap­ter of Acts. There is a large denomina­tion which claims that it began beforethis event. Their contention is that Jesusfounded his church when he . . . andthey quote I Cor. 12: 28: "set some inthe church, first apostles."

If you would carefully read this scrip­ture just quoted, you will notice it isnot referring to the time when he chosethe apostles, but to the fact that he setthe apostles fint IN AUTHORITY.

They also believe that only those whoare already "saved" can join their localrhurches. By this reasoning Judas musthave been converted and "saved" sincehe was one of the twelve which Jesussupposedly first placed in the church.

What foolish reasoning!Yes, Jesus founded His church on

the day of Pentecost-not before rhen!It is the Holy Spirit that puts us into

the one body or true Church. You donot join some denomination after being"saved." (I Cor. 12: 13) Jesus even toldthe apostles to wait in [cresalem tillthe Holy Spirit, which the Father prom­ised to send, would come (Acts 1:4) .That is when Jesus founded His church-on the day of Pentecost in the city ofJerusalem!

When Was That Pentecost?Now let us see if those churches

which claim to have been founded byJesus at Jerusalem on Pentecost can ac­tually prove their claims in the face ofproven history and the inspired recordof Scripture. Was the true church found­ed on a Sunday in A.D. 33 as the

Catholic and a few other churches claim?REMEMBER, if any church which claimsapostolic authority has erred in the tra­dirional date of its founding, how cantee believe that its other traditions aretrue!

Was the New Testament ChurchFounded on Sunday?

Does the day of Pentecost always occur on Sunday? Or are Jews right inpermitting Pentecost to fall on almostany day of the week, but always on afixed day of the month?

Let's see.First, the day of Pentecost is the ONLY

annual Sabbath that must be countedyear by year. THEREFORE, THE JEWSARE WRONG IN PLACING IT ON A FIXEDDAY OF THE MONTH. The Jewish datefor Penrecosr is incorrect because it docsNOT need to be counted each year. If rheJews were right, Moses would have saidthat Pentecost shall be observed on rheseventh day of the third month.

The Jewish error developed when thePharisees used the day after an annualsabbath instead of "THE SABBATH"­the WEEKLY sabbath-as Moses said.( Lev. 23: 15) By using the morrowafter the tuekl)' sabbath which comesduring the days of unleavened bread,the day of Pentecost will always fall ona certain day of the week) but the dayof the month will buu« to be countedbecause the weekly sabbath does notalways fall on the same day of the montheach year.

The cause for placing Pentecost onSunday is based on the error of counting"Saturdays" instead of weeks. Pentecostis not the feast of "Saturdays" but thefeast of weeks. (Exodus 34:22). Mosessays to count seven full WEEKS (Deut,16: 9) and the day after that is Pente­COSt. This feast is not in the end of theseventh week, but "after your weeksbe out," the fiftieth day (Nurn. 28: 26).

It was numbered from the DAY thatIsrael first began to reap the grain(Deut. 16:9). This day is specificallymentioned in Lev. 23 :15. "Ye shallcount unto you from the morrow aft,erTHE sabbath, from the day that yebrought the sheaf of the wave offering."So God wants us to count from a Sun­day, the day the sheaf of grain was Cut.

How to Count Pentecost

Now let's count. One day from todayis nor today, but tomorrow. One dayfrom Sunday is Monday. Two days fromSunday is Tuesday. One week fromSunday is Sunday. Seven weeks or forty­nine days from Sunday is Sunday. ButPentecost is AFTER seven weeks or forty­nine days. It is FIFTY days from Sun­day. Therefore it MUST ALW AYS FA T.T

ON A MONDAY!The mistake of counting "Saturdays"

instead of weeks is based on an incor­rect translation in the common versionsof Leviticus 23: 15,16. It reads "sevensabbaths shall be complete: even untothe morrow after the seventh sabbathshall you number fifty days." The wordhere translated "sabbath" can also mean"rest" or "seven" or "WEEK." Thereforewe need to let the Bible determinewhat is the proper meaning in thisplace.

The same Hebrew word that Mosesused in Leviticus 23: 15 and 16 was alsoused by the apostles and disciples in itsGreek form to mean "week," as in Mark16:2 and I Cor. 16:2. Here it would beas foolish to render the word "week"by "sabbath" as it is to translate Leviticus23: 16 by "sabbath," because fifty daysfrom Sunday is a Monday-the morrowafter the seventh week.

Both JEWISH AND CATHOLIC VER­SIONS OF THE BIBLE RENDER THISWORD CORRECTLY AS "WEEK." TheDouay or Catholic Version for Leviticus23: 15,16 reads: "You shall count there­fore from the morrow after the sabbath,wherein you offered the sheaf of the firstfruits, seven full weeks. even unto themorrow after the seventh week be ex­pired, that is to say fifty days."

As absolute proof that this verseshould be translated "after the seventhweek," turn to Deut. 16:9 and Num.28: 26 where the word week is translat­ed from a different word-shabua­which NEVER means sabbath, but always

week. Since in these verses the Hebrewwords used never mean the sabbath,and since seven weeks-forry-nine days-from a Sunday is a Sunday, the fiftiethday must be Monday. Hence, the realmeaning of Lev. 23: 16 is "the morrowafter the seventh week" as any othertranslation would necessitate a contra­diction of scripture.

Some also do not quite understandthe meaning of counting from one dayto another. A week from Sunday is theNEXT Sunday, and seven weeks from aSunday is seven Sundays away. But weare to count to the fiftieth day, that is,to the completion of Monday so wehave the full fifty days.

This is explained in Leviticus 23:27,32 where one counts from the end ofthe evening-not the beginning-of theninth day to the completion of the eve­ning of the tenth day, making onewhole day. Thus we are to count fiftydays from the end of Sunday, the daythe wave sheaf was offered, to the endof a Monday, which is the day of Penre­COSt. Pentecost is the last or fiftieth day.

Yes, the church that Jesus built wasnot founded on Sunday, but on Mon­day. Catholics and the Jews know thatPentecost is to be numbered fifty daysor seven full weeks from Sunday, theday the wave sheaf was offered. YetNEITHER of them knows how to figurecorrectly!

The Exact Date!

Now remember that the Passoverupon which Jesus died occurred onWednesday, April 25, A.D. 31. There­fore the weekly Sabbath would havebeen April 28 and the day upon whichthe wave sheaf was offered in 31 A.D.was the 29th. The first of the fifty dayswhich we count would then be April30. Add to this the 31 days of May and18 days of June and you have fifty daysin all. -

Pentecost in 31 AD., the exact dayupon which the tru~ church was foundedby Jesus Christ, was June 18. This daywas a MONDAY, which you can prove inyour own home if you check on Web­ster's Collegiate Dictionary under per­petual calendar.

God's true church-the church thatJesus built-has been observing the trueday of Pentecost to this day. That is whyit has not forgotten the right year inwhich it was founded. All other churcheshave resulted from aposracies and haveaccepted pagan doctrines. They have for­gotten the right year and the right day.They are not the churches that Jesuspromised to build and which He prom­ised to guide into all truth! Only thetrue church which has kept the true dayof Pentecost could remember when Jesusfounded his church.

How plain it is!The TRUE church which Jesus built is

not an organized denomination whichyou join. The TRUE church is composedof those individuals who submit them­selves to the authority of God, who re­pent and believe in Jesus and the gospelof the kingdom which He preached.The TRUE church is that body of individ­uals filled and led by the Holy Spirit­it is the body of Christ, a scatteredchurch which keeps ALL the command­ments and believes the gospel of thekingdom (Rev. 12: 17).

Now let us notice the special reasonwhy God sent the Holy Spirit that dayand also the special meaning of the dayof Pentecost FOR US TODAY!

What Pentecost Means in thePlan of God

To keep us in mind that this presentage is only the preliminary or first har­vest of human beings, God took theyearly material harvest of Palestine asthe picture of the spiritual harvest. Asyou probably have already learned, thereare two harvest seasons in the PromisedLand. The first small harvest is producedby an early rain, the second great harvestby a later rain.

Pentecost was ordained forever at theend of the spring harvest season, so thatwe might remember year by year andnever forget, that this present churchage is not the great day of salvationfor all the world, but the day of salva­tion for only the few who are called outof this present evil civilization andgiven the Spirit of God. In I CorinthiansI: 26 we find that "not many" of thegreat in this world are called. Every­where, the Christians are spoken of ascalled out from the world. Not all arebeing called today. It is the "elect" orchosen who are called in Israel today;the rest are blinded so that God couldIN THE FUTURE have mercy upon ALL.(Romans 11: 7,32)

The "harvesting" of human beingswho are called in this church age to beheirs of the Kingdom of God is ex­plained in Leviticus 23 beginning verse9. Here the material harvest of grain wasoriginally used as a type of the spiri­tual harvest.

The Israelites were not permitted toharvest their grain until the day thewave sheaf was offered. (Lev. 23:10,11;Deut, 16:9) This ritual, given to theLevitical priesthood to perform andtherefore not practiced today, picturedthe resurrected Christ being acceptedby the Father as the very first humanbeing to be born of God.

Why Pentecost on Monday?The wave sheaf did NOT picture the

resurrection of Christ, but the resurrect­ed Christ being accepted of the Father

on Sunday, the day after His resurrec­tion. Compare John 20: 17 with Mat­thew 28: 9 to find the time when Christfirst ascended to the Father to be ac­cepted of Him.

Because, since the resurrected Christis the first of the firsrfruirs and was ac­cepted by the Father on the Sundayafter his resurrection-portrayed by thewave sheaf offered on the first day ofthe week-then we who are second inorder to be reaped-"afterwards theythat are Christ's at his coming"-arepictured by having the feast of first­fruits or Pentecost fall on the SECONDDAY OF THE WEEK or Monday.

But notice this, the wave sheaf wasmerely the first part of the first harvest.It was a sheaf of the first fruits of theharvest. (Verse 10) Thus Christ is the"firstfruits of them that slept." (I Cor.15: 20) And Christians who are calledin this age are also said to be thefirstfruits. (James 1:18; Romans 8:23)Christ is the first of the firstfruits ofGod's harvest of human beings. Pente­cost pictures, then, the coming of theHoly Spirit and the ripening of the restof the firstfruits for harvesting at theresurrection (I Cor. 15 :23) . Thischurch age is merely the first harvest.

Pentecost in the New TestamentChurch

When originally given by God, theday of Pentecost was commanded to beobserved forever. (Lev. 23: 21) Jesusnever abolished Pentecost nor any ofthe other annual Holy Days. The dayof Pentecost DID OCCUR after Christ'sdeath that year as Luke records.

N one of these annual festivals hadburnt offerings or sacrifices on themwhen originally instituted. (Jeremiah7: 22,23) The sacrifices were added tothese days and to every day of the year(Exodus 29: 38) as a part of the serviceof the Levitical priesthood.

When the sacrifices and offeringswere consummated in the death of Christonce for all, these usual offerings ceasedto be made for the conscience (Heb.9: 13,14) by those who were convertedand who believed in Christ. But thecommand that Pentecost be observedforever as a Sabbath and convocationstill remained. (Lev. 23: 21) That iswhy the apostles and disciples weregathered together with all the devoutJews on this occasion. If the discipleshad not gathered on this day which wassacred to God, they would not have beenthere to receive the gift of God, HisSpirit.

Not only did the Jewish Christiansknow this, but also Paul, the apostle tothe Gentiles, undersrood that this an­nual Sabbath was still commanded byGod for His spiritual church. He "de-

termined to sail by Ephesus, because hewould not spend the time in Asia: forhe hasted, if it were possible for him,to be at Jerusalem the day of Pente­cost." (Acts 20: 16)

Paul, the teacher of the Gentiles,wanted to keep Pentecost thirty yearsafter the death of Christ!

At another time Paul spent the day ofPentecost in Ephesus, a Gentile city. (ICor. 16: 8 ) Yes, Pentecost, togetherwith the other annual festivals, was ob­served by all those of the true originalchurch which was under divine instruc­tion from the apostles. (Acts 12: 3;20:6; 27:9; I Cor. 5:8; 11:20-34) Gen­tiles received the praise of Paul for fol­lowing the churches of God in Judaea-the Jewish brethren. (I TheSs. 2: 14)

Pentecost Centuries After A.D. 31With the death of the apostles, a

great change occurred, which most ofyou have never been told about. A ter­rible apostacy set in among the churchesof God. Paul warned the Ephesians withwhom he observed Pentecost, as wehave already seen, that "after my de­parting shall grievous wolves enter inamong you, not sparing the flock. Alsoof yo.ur own selves shall men arise,.rpeakmg perverse things, to draw disci­ples after them." (Acts 20:29,30) "Forthe time will come when they will notendure sound doctrine; but after theirown lusts shall they heap to themselvesteachers, having itching ears; and theyshall turn away their ears from the truth,and shall be turned unto fables." (2Tim. 4:3)

Here is the place Paul warned Chris­tians about the very fables that most ofyou have been taught since childhoodby apostate churches.

By the time Jude wrote his epistle,the fables of which Paul warned had al­ready started. He exhorts: "you shouldearnestly contend for the faith whichwas once delivered unto the saints. Forthere are certain men crept in un­awares." (Jude 3,4)

Remember, the Gentile Christians inthe original inspired church observedPentecost as we have seen. Therefore,we will naturally expect some PROOFIN LATER HISTORY that the churcheither kept this day pure or changed it.

If the Gentiles NEVER kept this day,as you have so often heard from the pul­pits of the land, then we should NOT

expect to find any record of Gentilechurches observing a "Pentecost." Whatare the facts?

How Pentecost Was Changed

of keeping Pentecost-a Pentecost thatwas changed in the immediate yearsthat followed the death of the lastapostles. This Pentecost, so-called, hadbecome corrupted with SUN WORSHIP.It always fell on Sunday, the same asthe pagan Easter substituted for thepassover.

Here is a plain statement of Hasting'sDictionary of the Bible, article "Pente­cost":

"In the Christian Church the impor­tance of Pentecost was continued andits significance emphasized by the out­pouring of the Spirit on that day (Acts2). The day of the week on that oc­casion is TRADITIONALLY representedas Sunday . . . Wieseler (Chron. d.Aposl. Zeiralrer, p. 20) plausibly sug­gests that the festival was fixed on Sun­day by the later Western Church to cor­respond with Easter.

"Among the early Jewish Christiansobservance of the Hebrew feasts con­tinued, doubtless with fresh significancederived from the new revelation."

Let's notice these statements. Pente­cost was continued in the early trueChristian Church. It is TRADITION, notRevelation, rhar places Pentecost onSunday according to Wieseler.

Now let us also take note of theCatholic Encyclopedia.

"Whitsunday, or Pentecost, a feast ofthe universal Church which commem­orates the Descent of the Holy Ghostupon the Apostles ... Whitsunday, asa Christian feast, dates back to the firstcentury, although there is no evidencethat it was observed . . . the passage inI Corinthians 1l6:R) probabl)! refers tothe Jewish feast."

Here is one of the plainest admis­sions that the Pentecost observed byGentile converts, as the Bible recordsin I Corinthians 16: 8, was NOT THESAME as the "Christian" feast which laterdeveloped in the Catholic church.

The FACT that there are records of afalse day corroborates the Bible by indi­cating that the Gentiles originally keptthe true. but after the death of rhe apos­tles, it was perverted. If no day had beenobserved originally, there would havebeen no Pentecost to alter.

Early Confusion Among CatholicsAbout Pentecost

As usual, with the introduction of er­ror wholesale, there is always a periodof adjustment until the error is finallyestablished. We notice just such a situ­ation in early Catholic records beforetheir Pentecost or Whitsunday was firm­ly established. Bingham's Antiquities ofthe Christian Church, page 1157, 1158,says:

HARVEST of human beings.Since, however, the apostates of the

universal church were almost whollyGentiles, these men gradually developedtheir own customs to distinguish them­selves from rhe Jews, and yet to retainthe Christian or Jewish names. Both thePassover and Pentecost were TRANS­

FERRED GRADUALLY TO SUNDAY. Andthe name Passover was at last droppedfor Easter. Even Pentecost has beengreatly obscured by the name Whitsun­day. And along with the perversion ofthese two days, the apostate churchLOST ALL REMAINING KNOWLEDGE OF

THE TRUE PLAN OF GOD which thesedays picture.

The Reformation failed to restore theHoly Days of God. All the multiplicityof churches today either follow thepag,m custom of observing Pentecoston Sunday or else NEGLECT the day al­together. The time has come for us toget back to the faith ONCE DELIVEREDto [he saints, Let's begin to keep holy,the days God made holy. It is time wequit this Babylon of religious confusionand human tradition and follow thepaths of the saints through all ages whohave remained faithful to the truth ofGod.

How to Observe Pentecost

For those of you who may not knowhow Pentecost is to be observed, hereis a brief summary. It is an annual sab­bath and occurs on May 25 this year,beginning at sunset the previous eve­nlOg.

Be sure to remember that the day ofPentecost varies from year to year be­cause it is to be counted. The prepara­tion of food (Exodus 12: 16) is theonly labor God permits on an annualsabbath. Where possible this day shouldbe kept by assembling with others oflike faith since it is a commanded as­sembly. (Lev. 2'\: 4) Otherwise it canbe kept in your own home. This yearlet's follow the example of the pureoriginal church of God by keeping holythis day God made holy.

How SHOULD God's work be fi­

Did Christ intend His specially-se­lected and called ministers to be direct­ed and controlled by boards of laychurch members not called of Christ tothe ministry? Or did Christ Himselfordain a system providing for His work,leaving His true called ministers, likeprophets of old, free to serve God alone?

A Stern PROPHECY for Today!

Let me repeat briefly a stern prophecyfor our day-a WARNING from God to20th century America and Britain!

To us, God says: "I will come near toyou in judgment . . . Even from thedays of your fathers ye have gone awayfrom mine ordinances, and have not keptthem , .. Ye are cursed with a curse:for YE HAvE ROBBED ME, even this wholenation" (Malachi 3:5-9). That's not amessage for ancient Israel. It's a prophe­cy, warning America and Britain today!

Other prophecies scattered all thruborh Old and New Testaments show theJUDGMENT to be sent on us, for robbingGod among other sins-the coming in­vasion and utter defeat in atomic-rocketWorld War III!

But why? "But ye say," continues theEternal's warning, "Wherein have werobbed Thee?" And God replies, "InTITHES and OFFERINGS!"

Notice, we are not robbing Him intithes alone-but also by neglecting toput into His work OFFERINGS besides!

But we've been taught tithing wasdone away-merely for Israel of old.It's about time we got back to the Faith

God Working Out a PURPOSE

Man was placed on earth for a PUR­POSE, And always, from the very begin­ning, God has had on earth a PRIEST­HOOD--a ministry representing HIM,making known His revelation, His willto man, carrying out God's mission.

It does cost money to carryon Christ'sministry. And today with super-poweredfacilities of radio and printing press, ofrapid transportation to every part ofthe world-facilities making it possibleto reach vast masses over great distancesin short time-the carrying forth ofGod's LAST WARNING MESSAGE to a de­ceived world is a herculean task of gi­gantic proportions requiring large sumsof money.

Christ's Office, NOW!

It is well recognized that the peopleof Israel, during Old Testament times,were required to pay tithes. That is, one­tenth of income-whether livestock,grain, or money. But the NEW Testa­ment teaching on tithing is not gen­erally understood.

Yet the subject is mentioned manyplaces in the New Testament, But, sinceit is a priesthood subject-the financingof Christ's miniJtry it's well to lookfirst at the priesthood Book-Hebrews.

You hear a great deal of a cruci {ledChrist-much preaching about a deadChrist. Hut you hear almost nothingabout the MeSJage He brought fromGod, and even less about the functionof the resurrected living Christ of TO­DAY!

Speaking of the Christian HOPE ofeternal life (which hope is JesusChrist), we are told, beginning verse19, chapter 6, this HOPE (Christ) hasentered "within the veil"-that is, thevery throne of God III heaven-"whitherthe forerunner is for us entered, evenJesus, made an HIGH PRIEST for everafter the order of Melchisedec."

The NEW Testament Priesthood

Jesus Christ is HIGH PRIEST now.Let's undersranrl it Jeslls of Nazarethcame as a MeSJenger, sent from God,bearing a MESSAGE to man. His MES­SAGE is His GOSPEL-the Gospel ofJesus Christ-the Good News of theKINGDOM OF GOD.

After finishing His mission as Mes­senger, Jesus took on Himself the mis­sion of Saviour, paying in our stead thepenalty of our sins by His death on thecross. But it requires a living Saviourto impart to us the gift of eternal life'So God raised Jesus, by a RESURREC­TION.

And thereupon Jesus ascended toheaven, co the very throne of God,where He sat down and continues to­

day as our Everlasting HIGH PRIEST.That is His office, now. Soon He shallassume still another office, returning toearth in all the power and glory of God,as KING of kings-continuing Hispriesthood office as Lord of lords.

It is in His office as High Priest thatJesus sits as lit)ing Head of The Churchof God, the true Body of Christ in thisage. He is High Priest for this aud allsucceeding ages.

And as High Priest He holds adefinite rank-a rank that outranksevery priestly office-"After the orderof Melchisedec"-or, in the plainer Eng-

lish of the Moffatt translation, "withthe rank of Melchisedec."

And who is Melchisedec? This is oneof the intriguing mysteries of the Bible!Suffice it to say here, Melchisedec wasthe High Priest of God during patti­archal times. And Christ occupies thesame office now, holding the same rank.

But the Mosaic dispensation was apurely materialistic, fleshly dispensation.The GOSPEL was not preached in Israel,nor did their ministry carry it to othernations. Israelites formed a fleJh-borncongregation, not a Spirit-begottenchurch. The ministry consisted of rituals,carnal (fleshly) ordinances, substituteanimal sacrifices and burnt offerings.This required of the priests much hardphysical labor.

During those years a different priest­hood of lower rank was in office-merehuman rank, vastly inferior to the spirit­ual and divine rank of Mclchisedccand of Christ. The priests were of thetribe of Levi. It was called the LeviticalPriesthood.

A Tithe-Receiving PriesthoodYet this lower-level priesthood had to

be financed. God's financing Plan fromdim antiquity, thru the MelchisedecPriesthood, was the tithing system. Thissystem was continued thru the years ofthe Levitical Priesthood.

Now coming to the 7th chapter ofHebrews, God's financing plan is ex­plained. Notice the comparison betweenthe two tithe-receiving priesthoods.

First read the first five verses, He­brews, chapter 7: "For this Melchisedec,king of Salem, priest of the most highGod, who met Abraham returningfrom the slaughter of the kings, andblessed him; to whom also Abrahamgave a tenth part of all ... abidcth apriest continually. Now consider howgreat this man was, unto whom evenAbraham gave the tenth of the spoils.And verily they that are the sons of Levi,who receive the office of the priesthood,hate a commandment to take tithes ofthe people according to the LAW."

Let's understand it. This vital passageof Scripture begins to compare the twopriesthoods. Notice, back in patriarchaltimes, TITHING was God's system forfinancing His ministry. Melchisedec wasHigh Priest. The patriarch Abraham, itis written, knew and kept God's com­mandments, His statutes and laws (Gen.26: 5). And he paid tithes to the HighPriest!

Then the statement is made in thispassage that, during that dispensationfrom Moses until Christ, the priests ofthat time, the Levites, took tithes fromthe people BY LAW. It was a LAW, startedin the beginning, continued thru theMosaic dispensation.

The GOOD NEWS

Tithing, then, did not start withMoses!

It is God's system for financing Hisministry, which BEGAN from the BEGIN­NING-from the dim antiquity of pa­triarchal times. It was a LAW. It did notstart with Moses, it was merely con­tinued on THRU the Mosaic period!

Tithing a LAW from Dim AntiquityMany excuse themselves from tithing

today on the false impression tithingpertained to the Mosaic period only.They think it was for Israel, alone. Andthat illusion has brought a CURSE onthis whole nation!

The Old Covenant is gone-that'Strue. But its ending could not take awaywhat it did not bring! Tithing wasGod's law hundreds of years before theOld Covenant started.

TITHING is revealed as God's systemfor financing His earthly ministry. Priorto the Levitical Priesthood and the Mo­saic dispensation, the ministry was underMelchisedec. And we see that ministry,from the beginning, was financed by thetithing system.

Melchisedec, "having neither begin­ning of days, nor end of life. . . abidetha priest continually" (Heb. 7: 3). Yes,He was High Priest from the beginning!Even from Adam' And the ancientpatriarchs from Adam down rhru Abra­ham, Jacob, and on to Moses, financedthis ministry of God on earth by theTITHING system!

Merely CONTINUED in IsraelSince tithing is God's permanent, con­

tinuous financing system, it had to con­tinue thru the Mosaic dispensation. Dur­ing that period when the Levites werethe ministers, their work and labors hadto be financed. But when the priesthoodwas changed, God did not changehis financing system. The Levites "had acommandment to take tithes of the peo­ple according to the LAW."

And notice, the very Jubject of this7th chapter of Hebrews is the TITHINGLAW!

Now continuing the 7th of Hebrews,the teaching concerns which of the twopriesthoods-Melchisedec, or Levitical-is superior, to determine which priest­hood should receive tithes, NOW!

Christians of Paul's day did not needto be instructed that TITHING is anobligatory and permanent law of God.But they did need much teaching tomake clear to them that the Old Cove­nant was dead-the Levitical Priesthoodgone, and replaced by that of JesusChrist-the Melchisedec Priesthood re­stored! The only question was as towhich priesthood tithes were to be paid,now!

ceeds to show the Melchisedec Priest­hood is superior-has precedence now.

Notice the Scripture: "Now considerhow great this man was, unto whomeven the patriarch Abraham gave thetenth of the spoils . . . But he whosedescent is nor counted from them (theLevites), received tithes of Abraham,and blessed him (Abraham) that hadthe promises. And without all contra­diction the lesJ (Abraham) is blessedof the better (Melchisedec) . . . Andas I may so say, Levi also, who receivedtithes, paid tithes in Abraham, for hewas yet in the loins of his father, whenMelchisedec met him" (verses 4-9).

The Melchisedec Priesthood is great­er-superior! It has precedence! Andit is again in force as God's Priest­hood, under Christ! It, too, needs to befinanced!

Now notice the conclusion:"For the priesthood being changed,

there is made of necessity a change alsoin the LAW" (verse 12).

A NE\'Q Testament LAW!It does not say the law was abolished.

The change in priesthoods makes neces­sary a CHANGE in the law. What lawwas thus CHANGED? The very law thischapter is instructing New TestamentChristians about-the TITHING LAW!"The sons of Levi have a commandmentto take TITHES . . . according to thelaw" (verse 5).

So tithing, far from being abolished, isNEW TESTAMENT LAW! But, the priest­hood being changed to that of JesusChrist-the Melchisedec Priesthood re­stored-that tithing law is also changedof necessity, so as to become God's sys­tem for financing the ministry of JesusChrist!

Actually, the law is merely restoredas it uias from the beginning!

How plain! Tithing is God's taw­His system for financing His great worktoday; it's commanded, now.' And thiswhole nation, says Malachi's prophecy,is under a divine curse because it dis­regards that law! Every individual whobreaks it is under a curse! Let each oneask, "Does that mean me?"

The main requirement when eatinganything containing starch or sugar isthat it be chewed well because the firststep in starch or sugar digestion is doneby the saliva in the mouth. Withoutthis first step, neither starch nor sugarcan be completely digested in the in­testines.

thought of his deeds: "I have spent thebest years of my life giving people light­er pleasures, helping them have a goodtime, and all I get is abuse, the existenceof a hunted man."

Yes, these are the words of one of themost notorious gangsters that the worldhas known-a man who was respon­sible for possibly hundreds of peoplebeing murdered. His conscience didn'ttrouble him. He was resentful when hereceived only a fraction of the punish­ment he really deserved. His ways wereright in his own eyes as the Bible says(Pro. 21: 2 ) .

This case of Al Capone is not excep­tional at all! Now let Warden Lawes ofSing Sing testify of this. He says:"Few of the criminals in Sing Sing re­gard themselves as bad men ... Mostof them attempt by a form of reasoning,fallacious or logical, to justify their anti­social acts even to themselves, conse­quently stoutly maintaining that theyshould never have been imprisoned atall." I wonder if we dou'r luuk just aboutas bad in God's sight when we try tojustify ourselves when we break the lawsthat God has set in motion to governour relations with Him and with our fel­low man. Try as we may, we are no more

justified than Al Capone. We shall reapwhat we sow.

See how misleading a man's con­science can be in guiding his conduct?

You might ask, "If I do what I thinkis right, is that not the best I can do orthat can be expected of me?"

Conscience Often MisleadingThat question can be easily answered.

A person's conscience troubles him onlywhen that person has done somethingthat HE THINKS is wrong. What hethinks is wrong may even be right byGod's standard, but his consciencetroubles him just the same because hehas not been taught the truth.

Of course we should let our con­science tell us if we have done some­thing we think is wrong. There's no usetrying to hide from our consciences.BUT THE IMPORTANT THING IS THATWE ARE FIRST GUIDED BY THE BIBLECONCERNING THE STANDARD OF RIGHTAND WRONG-the law of liberty thatfrees us from sin-the law which shalljudge us (James 2:12).

We need the same mind in us whichwas in Christ Jesus (Phil. 2: 5). A mindthat approaches human conduct fromthe point of view of God's revelation­not our own human reasoning-a mindthat knows the will and laws of Godand, consequently, acts in accordancewith it. A mind that picks the good fromthe bad in this dark world bv the search-light of Scripture. .

The law of God-not our conscience-explains what sin is (I John 3:4).Once we know what sin is, then we canexamine ourselves by means of ourconscience to see if we are walking ac­cording to what we believe is right.That's the purpose of conscience-toprevent your straying from the pathwhich the law designates as right.

The New Testament shows in nu­merous places that we need to keep ourconscience clear (Acts 23: 1, Rom. 13: 5;Heb. 13: 18). Once we understand whatis right we should let nothing keep usfrom doing right-that is character.

The trouble with "old man world" isthat he has been walking according tohis conscience-what seems right tohim. And what has it brought? Everyconceivable kind of suffering. He is anextremely sick man today; in need of askilled physician.

But though there be many politicaland religious physicians, and thoughtheir "medicines" be innumerable, nonehave any power to heal him.

But thanks be to God: He has a planwhich shall work-which shall be putinto effect at the second coming ofChrist. And what does it consist of?

Purging evil from the minds of allmen by revealing TRUTH. Then therewon't be any Al Capones-or Stalins orHiders-who will be doing what theythink is right. Everyone will KNOW whatis right and will learn to practice it.
