Dear Troll collectorHave you ever seen a living troll? No? But do you really think that all the sounds in the wood come from your own heart and footsteps? Do you think all the shadows come from the trees?

Well, I guess that is what we all are told to think, and after a while we do that too. It was different that day the norwegian kids (see next page) met the two trolls one afternoon last summer. Those trolls did not dissappear behind a tree, instead they curiously came to the kids to talk with them. And children do have an open mind, so this went out to be a nice little evening, learning about trolls and for them - learning about people!

Do you know that this is the tenth year with the troll club?The first club pack was made in 1997, and since then many collectors have been members. I have nearly 3.800 names of collectors in our register, but of course not all of them are registrated as active members every year. I hope many collectors will continue to buy the club pack, as you have done now, and register in our archieve. That is important for developing new material for the club, and for you to receive the second issue of the club magazine this year. And as I always say: Don’t hesitate to contribute with your own pictures of your collection, pictures of troll-look-alike phenomenons you have seen or maybe you know a person that looks like a troll? I welcome all good advice and inputs to the clubs best. If you know anything that you think can be interesting for other collectors I hope you will tell it to me so I can publish it in the magazine or our free newsletters on e-mail.

Liebe Trollsammler!Habt ihr schon einmal einen echten Troll gesehen? Glaubt ihr wirklich, dass die Geräusche, die ihr im Wald hört, von euren Herzen oder euren Füssen stammen und dass es die Bäume sind, die all die Schatten werfen?

Wahrscheinlich ist uns das so lange eingeredet worden, bis wir es zum Schluss tatsächlich geglaubt haben. An dem Tag aber, als norwegische Kinder (siehe nächste Seite) eines Nachmittags zwei Trolle im Wald trafen, verhielt es sich anders. Die Trolle sind nicht hinter einem Baum verschwunden, sondern neugierig auf die Kinder zugegangen und haben mit ihnen geredet. Da Kinder im Allgemeinen sehr aufgeschlossen sind, wurde es ein schöner Abend: Die Kinder erfuhren einiges über Trolle – und umgekehrt – die Trolle lernten eine Menge über Menschen.

Wusstet ihr, dass es den Trollklub schon seit zehn Jahren gibt?Das erste Klub-Angebot wurde im Jahre 1997 angeboten und seitdem sind eine ganze Reihe von Sammlern Mitglieder geworden. Ich habe fast 3.800 Namen in meiner Kartei, aber natürlich sind nicht alle jedes Jahr als aktive Mitglieder registriert. Ich hoffe, dass das Klub-Angebot auch in Zukunft ein attraktives Angebot für Sammler sein wird und dass sich auch weiterhin viele Mitglieder bei uns registrieren werden – so wie ihr es getan habt. Sowohl für die Entwicklung neuer Produkte als auch für das Erscheinen der zweiten Ausgabe des Klub-Magazins ist dies von großer Bedeutung. Und, wie sage ich immer: Zögert nicht, mir Bilder von eurer Sammlung zu schicken! Vielleicht habt ihr auch Photos von Personen, die einem Troll ähnlich sehen oder von Situationen, in denen ihre glaubt, einen Troll gesehen zu haben? Ich freue mich auch über gute Ratschläge und Beiträge aller Art, die das Wohl des Klubs fördern. Wenn ihr von etwas hört, das auch für andere Sammler interessant sein kann, dann lasst es mich bitte wissen. Ich kann relevante Information leicht mit Hilfe des Magazins oder per E-Mail verbreiten.

Cari collezionisti di TrollAvete mai visto un Troll in carne ed ossa? No?!? Ma credete veramente che tutti i suoni del bosco provengano dal vostro cuore o dai vostri passi sul sentiero? Pensate che tutte le ombre provengano dagli alberi?

Beh, immagino che sia quello che ci viene detto di pensare e dopo un po’ lo pensiamo davvero. E’ stato diverso invece quando un pomeriggio dell’estate scorsa due ragazzini norvegesi (vedi la pagina dopo) hanno incontrato due Troll. I Troll non sono scomparsi dietro ad un albero, ma si sono avvicinati con curiosità ai bambini per parlare con loro. Ed i bambini, che hanno davvero la mente aperta, hanno trascorso proprio una bella serata insieme ai Troll, imparando tante cose a proposito dei Troll ed anche insegnando ai Troll tante cose a proposito delle persone!

Sapevate che questo è il decimo anno dalla nascita del Troll Club?Il primo è stato creato nel 1997 e da allora molti collezionisti si sono associati. Ho circa 3.800 nomi nel mio indirizzario, ma ovviamente non tutti sono registrati come soci attivi.Spero che molti collezionisti continueranno ad acquistare il Troll dell’anno, così come avete fatto voi proprio adesso, e a mandare la cartolina per la registrazione. Questo è importante per avere sempre nuovo materiale da pubblicare ed anche per poter ricevere il secondo numero della rivista.

E come dico sempre: non esitate a contribuire inviando le foto della vostra collezione, foto di fenomeni che sembrano di provenienza Troll a cui avete assistito, o di persone che conoscete che magari assomigliano a Troll!! Ogni suggerimento ed ogni contributo al club è molto apprezzato. Se siete a conoscenza di qualcosa che possa interessare anche

Trolls in the forest

It was a wet and rainy afternoon in the woods of Trondheim, in the middle of Norway. The children in the sports club, Leinstrand, had their last training evening before the school holiday. Since it was the last time they were together for about two months, they had decided to have a cosy walk in the wood, grilling hot dogs and playing outdoor games.

But then, suddenly, they met two trolls! None of them had ever met a troll before, and they were a little bit scared in the beginning, but shortly they got sure that the trolls were just good-natured.

The kids from Leinstrand got an experience they will never forget. And I will believe that they all forgot about the lousy weather when they talked with the trolls. And the trolls were quite impressed when they heard everything the kids knew about the nature. I guess that everybody agree that it was a nice tramp in the woods....

Trolle im WaldEs war ein regnerischer Nachmittag in den Wäldern von Trondheim in Mittelnorwegen. Die Kinder des Sportvereins Leinstrand hatten ihr letztes Training vor den Sommerferien. Da sich die Kinder jetzt ungefähr zwei Monate lang nicht sehen würden, hatten sie beschlossen, einen Ausflug in den Wald zu machen, um dort Würstchen zu grillen und Spiele zu spielen.

Doch dann trafen sie plötzlich zwei Trolle!Keines der Kinder hatte jemals zuvor einen Troll getroffen, deshalb waren sie anfänglich ein wenig ängstlich. Doch schon nach kurzer Zeit hatten sie sich davon überzeugt, dass die Trolle gutmütige Wesen waren.

Die Kinder aus Leinstrand werden dieses Erlebnis niemals vergessen. Und ich bin mir sicher, dass keines von ihnen an das miese Wetter dachte, als sie mit den Trollen sprachen. Die Trolle waren beeindruckt davon, wie viel die Kinder von Fauna und Flora wussten. Ich denke, in einer Sache sind sich alle einig: Der Ausflug in den Wald war sehr schön…

Troll nella forestaEra un pomeriggio umido e piovoso nei boschi di Trondheim, nel cuore della Norvegia. I bambini del centro sportivo di Leinstrand avevano appena finito l’ultima sessione di allenamenti prima dell’inizio delle vacanze. Visto che sarebbe stata l’ultima volta in cui si sarebbero visti e sarebbero stati insieme per i prossimi due mesi, decisero di farsi una passeggiata tranquilla nel bosco, preparandosi degli hot dog alla griglia e giocando insieme.

Ma, improvvisamente, incontrarono due Troll!Nessuno di loro ne aveva mai incontrato uno prima, e quindi all’inizio i bambini si erano un po’ spaventati. Però, subito dopo, si resero conto che i Troll erano dei

tipi buoni e simpatici.

I bambini di Leinstrand avevano vissuto un’esperienza che non avrebbero mai dimenticato. Di sicuro non si resero conto del tempaccio che faceva mentre chiacchieravano con i Troll. I Troll rimasero molto colpiti quando sentirono le tante cose che i bambini sapevano a proposito della natura. Immagino che siate tutti d’accordo con me che quella è stata per loro proprio una bella esperienza nei boschi....

Ten years with Ny Form Troll International Collectors ClubThis Club Pack, which you now have in-vested in, is actually a Jubilee Club Pack, since this year is the 10th year with the Ny Form Troll International Collectors Club.

Since the first club troll was published in 1997 we have developed nine different Limited Edition trolls, of which one of them is a common club troll for two years. We have during the years discovered that the value of the trolls is rising, but nevertheless the sentimental value is the most important value, and we all know that a troll brings good luck!

You the collectors yourselves in high degree run the Ny Form Troll International Collectors Club, by sending us pictures, stories and other inputs to the magazine about “trolly” things that happens around the world.

We have published the magazine twice a year, and for those of us that are so lucky to have them, it is a lot of fun and interesting reading.

Since Henrik Flaarønning, the first editor, printed the first magazine, we have received a lot of good pictures from your collections, and it is really impressive how much time and work many of you use on these nice little fellows. You are building trollcaves, do carpentering of small houses and painting pictures, producing calendars, mugs, mousepads and a lot of other trollstuff, trollbeer, troll jewelry and much more. You are creative and efficient!Many of you have also contributed with eagerness and good mood to the competitions, standing forward in look-alike contests and much more.I want to say thank you to all of you that have contributed with such various contents to the magazine, and I really hope that you will continue to send us pictures and stories from your experiences with the trolls. It is always fun to read about local arrangements, and it is inspiring to all of us!

1997 – 2006

Zehnjähriges Bestehen des Internationalen Ny Form Trollklubs für Sammler

Das Klub-Angebot, das ihr jetzt in den Händen haltet, ist übrigens eine Jubiläumsausgabe, da der Internationale Ny Form Trollklub für Sammler dieses Jahr sein zehnjähriges Bestehen feiert.

Seitdem der erste Klub-Troll im Jahre 1997 herausgekommen ist, haben wir neun verschiedene Trolle in limitierter Auflage entworfen, was bedeutet, dass nur ein Troll für die Dauer von zwei Jahren Klub-Troll war. Im Laufe der Jahre haben wir festgestellt, dass der Wert der Trolle steigt, aber trotzdem ist der Liebhaberwert immer noch am wichtigsten, und außerdem wissen wir ja alle: Trolle bringen Glück! Ihr, die Sammler, tragt in hohem Maße zum Bestehen des Internationalen Ny Form Trollklubs bei, indem ihr uns Photos, Geschichten und andere „trollige“ Beiträge aus der ganzen Welt sendet.Das Magazin erscheint zweimal im Jahr. Wer zu den Glücklichen zählt und beide Ausgaben bekommt, kann sich über lustigen und interessanten Lesestoff freuen. Seit Henrik Flaarønning, der Gründer des Magazins, die erste Ausgabe gedruckt hat, haben wir eine Menge schöner Bilder von euren Sammlungen erhalten und wir finden es wirklich beeindruckend, wie viel Zeit und Arbeit ihr in die netten, kleinen Kerlchen investiert. Ihr baut Trollhöhlen, bastelt kleine Häuschen, malt Bilder und stellt Kalender, Tassen, Mauspads oder andere Trollsachen wie zum Beispiel Trollbier und Trollschmuck her. Ihr seid kreativ und sehr tüchtig!Mit großem Eifer und guter Laune haben auch viele von euch an den Gewinnspielen und am Look-alike Wettbewerb teilgenommen. Ich möchte allen Danken, die auf so unterschiedliche Art und Weise zum Magazin beigetragen haben und hoffe, dass ihr uns auch weiterhin Bilder und Geschichten von den Erlebnissen mit euren Trollen sendet. Außerdem ist es immer schön, von lokalen Veranstaltungen zu lesen, die uns hoffentlich alle inspirieren!

Dieci anni con il Club dei Collezi-onisti Ny Form Troll International

Questo Troll Club, che avete appena comprato, è un pacchetto speciale, il ”Giubileo del Troll Club”, perchè quest’anno è il 10° anniversario del Club dei Collezionisti Ny Form Troll International.

Da quando è stato prodotto il primo Troll Club nel 1997, abbiamo sviluppato 9 Edizioni Limitate di Troll, tutte diverse una dall’altra, ad eccezione di quella del 2002-2003 che valeva per 2 anni. Nel corso degli anni abbiamo scoperto che il valore dei Troll aumenta sempre più, ma per noi è molto più importante il loro valore affettivo oltre al fatto che avere un Troll porta fortuna!

Siete proprio voi collezionisti a dare sempre maggiore impulso al Club dei Collezionisti Ny Form Troll International, inviandoci foto, storie ed altri contributi per la rivista, a proposito di cose ”Trolliche” che succedono in tutto il mondo.

Abbiamo pubblicato la rivista due volte l’anno e con tutti coloro che l’hanno ricevuta, abbiamo condiviso molte letture divertenti ed interessanti. Da quando Henrik Flaarønning, il primo redattore, ha pubblicato il primo numero, abbiamo ricevuto un grande numero di bellissime foto provenienti dalle vostre collezioni, ed è davvero stupefacente scoprire quanto tempo e quanti sforzi alcuni di voi dedichino a questi simpatici esserini. Costruite grotte Troll e piccole casette di legno, dipingete quadri, create calendari, tazze, tappetini per il mouse ed un sacco di altre ”Trollocose”, birra Troll, gioielli Troll ecc. ecc. Siete davvero creativi ed efficienti!Molti di voi hanno anche preso parte ai concorsi che abbiamo organizzato con grande entusiasmo ed allegria, partecipando a gare di somiglianza e a tanti altri eventi.Vorrei ringraziare tutti quanti per aver contribuito così intensamente alla realizzazione della nostra rivista, e spero che continuerete ad inviarci foto e storie sulle vostre esperienze con i Troll. E’ sempre divertente leggere storie che raccontano usi e costumi locali, e che saranno di ispirazione per tutti noi!

Olaf - a troll from New ZealandLetter from New Zealand:We have received I nice letter from New Zealand a while ago. This is a very interesting letter, so I put it in print in its entirety.

Hi Marit,The area we now live in was once a large rainforest (the largest podocarp rainforest in the world, full of unique animals especially birds), the forest was called the 70 mile bush and in 1872 immigrants from Nord Odal in Norway were encouraged to create a new life in NZ. There are many accounts of their first trip to the area. They had the opportunity to own a 40 acres block (of bush) and work on the road and railway track for 5 shillings a week. They felled the bush to create farmland. The farms now are invariably in multiples of 40 acres. I have an 80 acre farm near Norsewood.

The small Norsewood community has remembered their forbears and the village has a museum. A Norwegian, Ola Rien, started a woollen clothing factory in the town which is still very successful.I did read of rock shapes looking “like a troll’s head” in early accounts of their settlement, but life was so hard for the first immigrants. Survival in the new land had to give way to retaining elements of their Norwegian culture. About ten years ago a community group and the local Lions Club looked to promote the town and I chaired a public meeting which agreed to use a friendly troll theme alongside another town symbol/icon, a scandiwheel and an axe, in order to put our town on the tourists map.

most recent book to be launced called: “The Troll and the Huia”Author Lyn McConchie, publisher Mike Stone, Pearl Hullah and Uncle Sven, Norsewoods Troll of the year.

The Lions Club organised a regular market day which has also become a troll festival where a community member who has made a valued contribution to the area is honoured with the title of Troll of the Year. The town is proud of its unique Scandinavian heritage and still commemorated Constitution Day in May.

The town is careful to promote itself as the troll capital of the southern skies (for the last 10 years or so) and Olaf the central character of the 4 children’s books is a FRIENDLY TROLL, and popular with children of all ages. Olaf is featured on signs welcoming people driving through our region. The sign features Olaf and the scandiwheel.

I have the privilege of visiting Norway and was hosted there by the Andreson family (who now live in a town close by). I was able to get a tour of the Hunderfossen Family troll Park by Anders Huuse and I saw the Kittelsen troll art.

The central character of the children’s books lives in a cave by a waterwheel in the park (At the township). The whole 70 mile bush is now paddocks with sheep and cattle, few remnants of the original bush remain but stories abounded in early diaries and stories of amazing animal life in the early bush, especially stories of NZ birds. A particular bird called the Huia was more abundant in this bush than anywhere else in NZ and had remarkable qualities. It is the Huia bird now presumed extinct which is featured in our latest book. Mark Twain travelled through the region by train 111 years ago this year.

Olaf – ein Troll aus Neuseeland

Brief aus Neuseeland:Vor einiger Zeit haben wir einen netten Brief aus Neuseeland erhalten. Er ist so interessant, dass ich ihn hier in voller Länge abdrucke.

Hallo Marit,Die Gegend, in der wir heute leben, war früher ein gigantischer Regenwald (der größte Podocarp-Regenwald der Welt; hier lebten eine Vielzahl seltener Tieren, insbesondere Vögel). Der Wald wurde früher der 70-Meilen-Busch genannt. 1872 wurden Einwanderer aus Norwegen, genauer gesagt aus Nord Odal, dazu ermutigt, sich in Neuseeland niederzulassen, um sich hier eine neue Existenz aufzubauen. Es gibt viele Berichte über ihre erste Begegnung mit der Gegend. Sie konnten 40 Morgen Regenwald ihr Eigentum nennen und für fünf Schilling die Woche beim Bau der Eisenbahn helfen. Außerdem fällten sie Bäume, um Ackerland anzulegen. Die meisten Farmen sind heute um ein Vielfaches Größer als damals. Meine Farm ist 80 Morgen groß und liegt in der Nähe von Norsewood.

Die kleine Gemeinde Norsewood hat ihre Vorfahren nicht vergessen und ein Museum für sie eingerichtet. Der Norweger Ola Rien hat eine Firma gegründet, die Wollstoff und Wollwaren herstellt und auch heute noch sehr erfolgreich ist.Für die ersten Einwanderer war das Leben hier sehr hart. Um in der Fremde überleben zu können, hielten sie an Teilen der norwegischen Kultur fest. In frühen Berichten über die norwegische Siedlung habe ich gelesen, dass es hier Felsen gibt, die angeblich wie Trollköpfe aussehen.

Vor ungefähr zehn Jahren startete ein Bürgerverein und der lokale Lions Club eine Werbekampagne für den Ort. Aus diesem Anlass nahm ich an einer öffentlichen Sitzung teil, die beschloss, ein Logo von einem freundlichen Troll neben dem Stadtsymbol zu platzieren, um den Ort zu einem attraktiven Touristenziel zu machen. Das Stadtsymbol zeigt nun neben Skandi-Rad und Axt auch einen Troll.Der Lions Club organisiert regelmäßig einen Markt, der sich zu einem Trollfestival entwickelt hat. Auf diesem Festival wird jährlich ein Bewohner des Ortes, der sich besonders ausgezeichnet hat, mit dem Titel „Troll des Jahres“ geehrt. Die Stadt ist sehr stolz auf ihr einzigartiges skandinavisches Erbe und feiert jedes Jahr im Mai den norwegischen Nationalfeiertag.

In den letzten zehn Jahren war die Stadt sehr darum bemüht, sich als Troll-Hauptstadt auf der südlichen Halbkugel zu vermarkten. Olaf, die Hauptfigur in vier Kinderbüchern, ist ein freundlicher Troll und bei Kindern aller Altersstufen sehr beliebt. Olaf ist auf Schildern abgebildet, die entlang der Strassen aufgestellt wurden, um Reisende in der Region zu begrüßen. Neben Olaf ist auch das Skandi-Rad auf den Schildern zu sehen.

Es war mir eine große Ehre, Norwegen besuchen zu können. Während meines Aufenthalts habe ich bei Familie Andreson gewohnt (die jetzt hier in einen Nachbarort gezogen ist). Ich hatte die Möglichkeit, den Hunderfossen Familien-Troll-Park von Anders Huuse zu besuchen und habe außerdem die Trollkunst von Kittelsen gesehen. Die Hauptfiguren in den Kinderbüchern sind im Hunderfossen-Park ausgestellt. Sie wohnen dort in einer Höhle in der Nähe eines Wasserrades (im Zentrum der Ortschaft).Der gesamte 70-Meilen-Busch ist heute ein Auslauf für Schafe und Rinder. Mittlerweile sind nur noch wenige Überreste des Regenwaldes vorhanden, doch es kursieren immer noch Geschichten aus früheren Zeiten über die erstaunliche Vielfalt der Tierwelt, besonders Geschichten über Vögel. Ein Vogel mit besonderen Eigenschaften, der Huia genannt wird, kam hier in den Wäldern häufiger vor als irgendwo sonst in Neuseeland. Der Vogel Huia, der mittlerweile vom Aussterben bedroht ist, wird in unserem neusten Buch präsentiert.Dieses Jahr vor genau 111 Jahren hat Mark Twain diese Gegend mit der Eisenbahn bereist.

OLAF – Un Troll dalla Nuova Zelanda

Lettera dalla Nuova Zelanda:Abbiamo ricevuto un po’ di tempo fa questa simpatica lettera dalla Nuova Zelanda. E’ una lettera molto interessante e perciò ho deciso di pubblicarla per intero.

Ciao Marit,la zona in cui vivo attualmente una volta era una vasta foresta pluviale (la più grande foresta fluviale di podocarp del mondo, piena di animali unici e soprattutto uccelli). La foresta si chiamava “70 mile bush” (Foresta delle 70 miglia) e nel 1872 gli immigranti che arrivarono dalla Norvegia, da Nord Odal, furono incoraggiati a creare proprio lì un nuovo insediamento in Nuova Zelanda. Vi sono molti racconti che narrano il loro primo viaggio verso questa zona. Venne data l’opportunità di entrare in possesso di appezzamenti da 40 acri (di foresta) e di lavorare alla costruzione della rete ferroviaria e viaria per 5 scellini la settimana. Abbatterono la foresta per ottenere terreno coltivabile. Oggi le fattorie si sviluppano su aree che sono sempre multipli di 40 acri. Io stesso possiedo una fattoria di 80 acri vicino a Norsewood.

La piccola comunità di Norsewood ha ricordato i suoi antenati creando nel villaggio un museo commemorativo. Un norvegese, Ola Rien, creò in città una fabbrica per la produzione di abbigliamento in lana che ancora oggi ha un grande successo.Leggendo i racconti dei primi abitanti dell’insediamento venni a conoscenza di rocce con forme “somiglianti a teste di Troll”, ma all’epoca la vita era davvero dura per i primi immigranti. La sopravvivenza nel nuovo paese era anche legata al mantenimento di elementi della cultura Norvegese. Circa 10 anni fa un gruppo della comunità insieme al Lions Club, decise di fare qualcosa per promuovere la città, ed io stesso ho presieduto ad un incontro pubblico in cui si è deciso di impiegare il simbolo dell’amichevole Troll insieme ad un altro simbolo o icona della città, una ruota scandinava ed una accetta, da inserire per indicare la nostra città sulle cartine turistiche.

Il Lions Club da allora organizza una giornata di mercato a cadenza regolare, che è anch’essa diventata un festival dei Troll in cui un membro della comunità che abbia contribuito allo sviluppo dell’area, viene insignito del titolo di Troll dell’Anno. La città è molto fiera di questa eredità scandinava unica e continua a commemorare in maggio il Giorno della Costituzione.La città si è molto impegnata a promuoversi come capitale dei Troll dell’emisfero meridionale (almeno negli ultimi 10 anni circa) ed Olaf, il personaggio principale di ben 4 libri per bambini, è un AMICHEVOLE TROLL, conosciutissimo dai bambini di tutte le età. Olaf viene raffigurato sui cartelli che danno il benvenuto a chi attraversa in macchina la nostra regione. Il cartello rappresenta Olaf e la ruota scandinava.

Ho avuto il privilegio di visitare la Norvegia e sono stato ospitate della famiglia Andreson (che adesso vive in una città vicino alla mia). Ho potuto fare un tour del parco Troll della famiglia Hunderfossen con Anders Huuse ed ho visto l’arte Troll di Kittelsen.Il personaggio principale dei nostri libri per bambini, vive in una grotta vicino alla ruota di un mulino ad acqua che si trova nel parco del municipio.L’intera foresta delle 70 miglia adesso è stata trasformata in un’area recintata per pecore e bovini, e poco rimane a testimonianza della foresta che vi era un tempo. Però nei primi resoconti e nei primi racconti, abbondano storie di un’incredibile vita animale nella foresta pluviale originaria, e soprattutto storie di uccelli della Nuova Zelanda. Un particolare uccello chiamato Huia aveva il suo habitat naturale proprio in questa foresta, molto di più che nel resto della Nuova Zelanda, ed aveva delle caratteristiche molto speciali, ed è proprio questo uccello chiamato Huia, attualmente estinto, che è raffigurato nel nostro ultimo libro. Mark Twain percorse tutta la regione in treno esattamente 111 anni fa.

Limited Edition Troll no. 10It is quite unbelievable, we often say that time passes quickly, but this years club troll is really no. 10 of the series of Limited Edition Club Trolls.The first club troll was published in 1997, and since then we have released a new troll every year, with exception of a short period of lower activity in the club when we made one figure as a club troll for two years, the years 2002 - 2003.

Luckily we are now on top again, and I don’t think I am wrong when I say that this year’s club troll is on his way to one of Norway’s many high mountain peaks

with his packed lunch and warm stocking cap. But, he can also have other plans, and that is actually up to you to decide. At page 11 in this magazine you will find a competition where I challenge you to write a few words about where this year’s club troll is going. I hope you take the challenge!

This year’s club troll sets himself apart from the earlier club trolls with his stocking cap in lovely, warm wool. This is a kind of cap that has been very usual in Norway for generations, and the kids often call it a Santas stocking

cap, although it then should be red. Many Norwegians look at this kind of a cap as typical Norwegian.

Nevertheless – I think this fellow here looks smashing in it!

Troll Nr. 10 in limitierter Auflage

Es ist wirklich unglaublich, wie schnell die Zeit vergeht. Dieses Jahr erscheint tatsächlich schon Troll Nr. 10 in der Reihe limitierter Klub-Trolle. Der erste Klub-Troll kam 1997 heraus und seitdem haben wir jedes Jahr einen neuen Troll auf den Markt gebracht. Nur ein Troll war für die Dauer von zwei Jahren Klub-Troll, da der Klub in dieser Zeit nicht besonders viel Aktivität zu verzeichnen hatte.

Glücklicherweise ist der Klub jetzt wieder auf der Höhe. Und es ist wohl nicht falsch zu behaupten, dass auch der diesjährige Klub-Troll mit gepackter Verpflegung und Gesichtsmütze unterwegs zu einem der höchsten Gipfel Norwegens ist. Er kann allerdings auch andere Pläne haben – das entscheidet ganz allein ihr. Auf Seite elf in dieser Ausgabe findet ihr ein Gewinnspiel: Ich fordere euch auf, ein paar Sätze darüber zu schreiben, wohin der diesjährige Klub-Troll unterwegs ist. Ich hoffe, ihr nehmt die Herausforderung an!

Der diesjährige Klub-Troll unterscheidet sich von den früheren Klub-Trollen durch seine Mütze aus schön warmer Wolle. Diese Art Mütze wird in Norwegen schon seit Generationen getragen und die Kinder nennen sie häufig die Mütze des Weihnachtsmanns, obwohl sie dann eigentlich rot sein müsste. Viele Norweger glauben, dass diese Mütze typisch norwegisch ist.Wie auch immer – ich finde, unserem Kamerad steht Mütze sehr gut!

Troll n. 10 in Edizione Limitata

E’ davvero incredibile, ma, come si dice spesso, il tempo trascorre velocissimo. Quest’anno il Troll Club è arrivato alla decima edizione della serie Limited Edition Troll Club.Il primissimo Troll venne prodotto nel 1997 e da allora abbiamo prodotto un nuovo Troll ogni anno, ad eccezione del Troll 2002-2003 quando il club si è trovato ad avere un’attività ridotta.

Fortunatamente siamo di nuovo in sella e non penso di sbagliarmi quando dico che anche il Troll Club di quest’anno sta arrivando da una delle tante montagne della Norvegia con il suo cestino per il pic nic ed un buon berretto caldo. Però potrebbe anche avere altri progetti, e sarete proprio voi a decidere. A pagina 11 di questa rivista troverete un concorso in cui vi sfido a scrivere qualcosa a proposito di dove sta andando il Troll di quest’anno. Spero che accetterete la sfida!

Il Troll Club di quest’anno si differenzia dai Troll Club degli anni scorsi per il suo berretto in delicata e caldissima lana. E’ un tipo di berretto che è molto diffuso in Norvegia da generazioni ed i bambini lo chiamano spesso il berretto di Babbo Natale, nonostante questo debba essere rosso. Molti norvegesi considerano questo berretto come tipicamente norvegese.

Ad ogni modo - secondo me a questo amico il berretto sta proprio bene!

As happens every month, at half past seven in the morning on a cold day at the be-ginning of January, the Norwegian driver waited for someone to arrive at SECOT to begin unloading the shipment of Trolls from the truck so that he could start out on the long trip back to Scandinavia.

It fell to Andrea to arrive before the others to welcome the driver, who had as usual arrived the night before (goodness only knows at what time) and slept in the truck.

Still somewhat drowsy, Andrea looked at the truck and felt that something was different, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it was. Then he suddenly realized: the truck was taller and longer than normal, the largest in fact which had ever come. And then it came to him! The new Big Troll was also on board!The Big Troll is a two and a half meter tall Troll, and weighs 600 kilos. Only a few exist in the world, and all of them have been built in the old factory at Tynset, in Norway.

fairs or other promotional initiatives for stores all around Italy. Unfortunately, over the course of his journeys, the Big Troll had been somewhat damaged, due in part to the difficulties inherent in transporting such a bulky “gentleman”, but also because thoughtless people with nothing better to do had damaged him.In short, after a few years of vagabond life, the Big Troll decided that it would be better to find a calm place where he could settle to spend his old age, and being nostalgic for his country of origin, chose a small village in the mountains of Trentino in the Dolomites area, under the famous Marmolada mountain, where there is a lot of snow in winter.Now he lives in Rocca Pietore, in front of the shop Artigianlegno, owned by Mario Baldissera, as you can see in the picture. In exchange for the hospitality, the Big Troll serves as a tourist attraction.SECOT spent a long time looking for another Big Troll, to replace the one who had “retired”; and now, thanks to the help of Ola Flaarønning, this desire has been realized. Before departing for Italy, the new Big Troll spent a few days in the factory, where he was polished up and prepared for the trip to Italy. But above all, he was packed carefully, so that he didn’t suffer any damage during the long trip.He is now temporarily housed at SECOT, waiting for his permanent place to be ready; this will be in front of the new warehouse of the firm, which will be finished soon.We also hope to be able to bring him with us to the MACEF, the interior design fair, which is held twice a year at the Fiera di Milano. In addition, we are considering making him available for other initiatives, but we will do this only for very special occasions: we love him, as we love his smaller brothers, and we don’t want him to suffer the damages which were inflicted on his predecessor.

E’ arrivato in Italia il fratello del Big Troll!

Come succede quasi ogni mese, alle sette e mezza di mattina di un freddo giorno di inizio Gennaio l’autista norvegese aspettava che arrivasse qualcuno in SECOT per poter iniziare a scaricare dal camion il suo carico di Troll e partire per il lungo viaggio di ritorno in Scandinavia.Toccava ad Andrea arrivare prima degli altri per accogliere l’autista, che come al solito era arrivato la sera prima (chissà a che ora) e aveva dormito sul camion.Ancora un po’ insonnolito, Andrea guardava il camion e aveva la sensazione di qualcosa di diverso dal solito, ma non riusciva a capire che cosa fosse. Poi si rese conto: il camion era più alto e più lungo di quelli normali, il più grande finora arrivato: Ma certo! a bordo c’era anche il nuovo Big Troll!Il Big Troll è un Troll alto quasi due metri e mezzo e pesa 600 chili; ce ne sono pochissimi esemplari tutti costruiti nella vecchia fabbrica di Tynset, in Norvegia.In Italia c’è già un Big Troll. E’ stato comprato dalla SECOT nel 1998 e utilizzato per diversi anni come attrazione in occasione di fiere o iniziative promozionali di negozi in molte parti d’Italia. Purtroppo nel suo peregrinare il Big Troll ogni tanto subiva qualche danno, sia per le difficoltà nel trasportare un “signore” così ingombrante, sia per colpa di qualche sprovveduto che, non avendo nulla di meglio da fare, pensava bene di divertirsi danneggiando.Insomma, dopo qualche anno di vita vagabonda, il Big Troll ha pensato che fosse meglio trovare un posto tranquillo dove sistemarsi stabilmente per la vecchiaia e avendo nostalgia del suo paese d’origine optò per un paesino dove in inverno c’è tanta neve, nelle Dolomiti, sotto la Marmolada. Ora vive felicemente a Rocca Pietore davanti al negozio Artigianlegno di Mario Baldissera, come si vede nella foto. In cambio dell’ospitalità, il Big Troll fa da attrazione per i turisti di passaggio.Da tempo la SECOT stava cercando un altro Big Troll, per sostituire quello “andato in pensione” e ora finalmente grazie all’interessamento di Ola Flaarønning il desiderio si è realizzato. Prima di partire per l’Italia, il nuovo Big Troll ha trascorso qualche giorno in fabbrica, dove è stato ripulito e preparato perché arrivando in Italia facesse una bellissima figura; ma soprattutto è stato ben imballato, in modo che non subisse danni nel lungo viaggio.Ora è provvisoriamente sistemato in SECOT, in attesa di andare ad occupare il suo posto definitivo, davanti alla nuova sede dell’azienda, in fase di completamento.Speriamo anche di poterlo portare con noi al MACEF, il salone dell’oggettistica per la casa, che si tiene presso la Fiera di Milano due volte all’anno. Stiamo anche valutando la possibilità di renderlo disponibile per altre iniziative, ma lo faremo in modo molto mirato: gli vogliamo bene, come agli altri suoi fratelli più piccoli e non vogliamo che subisca danni come è successo al suo predecessore.

Der Bruder des Riesen-Trolls ist in Ital-ien angekommen!

Wie jeden Monat einmal, so wartete auch an diesem kalten Tag Anfang Januar ein norwegischer Lastwagenfahrer um halb acht morgens auf einen Mitarbeiter von SECOT. Der Mitarbeiter sollte mit dem Ausladen der Trolle, die der LKW im Frachtraum hatte, beginnen, damit sich der Fahrer zurück auf den langen Weg nach Skandinavien machen konnte. An diesem Morgen war es Andrea, der den Lastwagenfahrer in aller Frühe Willkommen hieß. Der Fahrer war wie gewöhnlich schon am Vorabend (nur Gott weiß wann) angekommen und hatte die Nacht in seinem Fahrzeug verbracht. Immer noch ein bisschen verschlafen sah sich Andrea den Wagen an und stellte fest, das irgendetwas anders war als sonst, aber er konnte nicht genau sagen, was das war. Doch dann wurde es ihm schlagartig klar: Der LKW war größer und länger als gewöhnlich, es war tatsächlich der größte LKW, der jemals bei SECOT vorgefahren war. Und dann fiel es ihm plötzlich ein! Der neue Riesen-Troll war an Bord!Der Riesen-Troll ist zweieinhalb Meter groß und wiegt 600 Kilo. Es gibt nur einige wenige Exemplare auf der Welt, die alle in der alten Fabrik in Tynset, Norwegen hergestellt wurden.In Italien gibt es bereits einen Riesen-Troll, den SECOT 1998 gekauft hat. Dieser Troll ist viele Jahre lang als Attraktion bei Messen oder als Werbegag in Geschäften an den verschiedensten Orten in Italien eingesetzt worden.Leider ist der Troll auf seinen Reisen etwas beschädigt worden, da es nicht einfach ist, einen solch sperrigen Gentleman zu transportieren. Außerdem ist er immer wieder auf rücksichtslose Zeitgenossen getroffen, die nichts besseres zu tun hatten, als ihn zu demolieren.Um es kurz zu machen: Nach einigen Jahren des Vagabundenlebens entschloss sich der Troll, einen ruhigen Ort ausfindig zu machen, um dort sein Rentnerdasein zu verbringen. Und weil er nostalgisch ist, was seine Herkunft angeht, wählte er einen kleinen Ort in den Bergen von Trentino in den Dolomiten. Hier in dieser sehr schneereichen Gegend, unter dem berühmten Berg Marmolada ließ sich der Riesen-Troll nieder.Heute lebt er in Rocca Pietore und steht vor dem Geschäft Artigianlegno, das – wie ihr auf dem Bild sehen könnt – Mario Baldissera gehört. Als Gegenleistung für die Gastfreundschaft dient der Riesen-Troll als Touristenattraktion.SECOT hat sehr lange nach einem neuen Riesen-Troll gesucht, der den alten, im Ruhestand befindlichen Troll ersetzen kann. Dank der Hilfe von Ola Flaarønning ist dieser Wunsch in Erfüllung gegangen. Vor seiner Abreise nach Italien hat der neue Riesen-Troll einige Tage in der Fabrik verbracht. Hier wurde er poliert und auf die Reise nach Italien vorbereitet. Vor allem wurde er sehr gut eingepackt, damit er unterwegs keinen Schaden erleidet.Im Augenblick wohnt er vorübergehend bei SECOT, da sein neues Zuhause, der Eingang eines Kaufhauses, noch nicht ganz fertiggestellt ist.Wir hoffen, dass wir den Riesen-Troll zur MACEF, einer Innenarchitektur Messe, mitbringen können, die zweimal im Jahr in der Fiera di Milano stattfindet. Außerdem möchten wir ihn auch gerne für andere Veranstaltungen zur Verfügung stellen, allerdings nur zu ganz speziellen Anlässen: Wir lieben den Riesen-Troll genauso wie seine kleinen Brüder und deshalb wollen wir nicht, dass ihm das gleiche Leid wie seinem Vorgänger zugefügt wird.

Where is he going?Every troll has its story, and most of their stories is in our imagina-tion. Therefore, I want to chal-lenge you to write a few words about this year’s limited edition troll.

I hope you grab your pencil, or your computer, and write a story about this fellow here. It is well done if you write about 100 - 150 words.Is he looking for a trollwife, just hoping to reach Norways highest mountain, or maybe he is visitting your home country? The possibilities are enormous!

He certainly had a spirit of adven-ture this handsome troll, when he visitted Bogstad Gård Café, outside Oslo in Norway.

At the estate he met two charming girls, Kajsa and Johanne. They were planning a fairy-tale-day, and they invited him to join them at the café. The troll called himself the Bogstadtroll, and he did visit the fairy-tale-day, to the pleasure of many children (and adults).

Surprising visit

ÜberraschungsgastDieser gut aussehende Troll hatte wahrscheinlich Lust auf ein Abenteuer, als er das Café des Bogstad Hofs außerhalb von Oslo in Norwegen besuchte.

Auf dem Landgut traf er zwei charmante Mädchen, Kajsa und Johanne, die ihn ins Café einluden und ihm von ihren Plänen berichteten: In einer Woche wollten die beiden einen Märchen-Tag veranstalten. Der Troll nannte sich Bogstadtroll und zum Vergnügen vieler Kinder (und Erwachsener) stattete er dem Märchen-Tag einen Besuch ab.

Una visita sorprendente Questo bel Troll ha dimostrato un bello spirito d’avventura quando ha visitato il Bogstad Gård Café, alle porte di Oslo in Norvegia.Lì ha incontrato due ragazze incantevoli, Kajsa e Johanne. Stavano programmando una ”giornata da favola” per bambini ed hanno deciso di invitare il Troll ad unirsi a loro al Café.Il Troll non ha esitato a far parte del gruppo, dandosi il nome di BogstadTroll, ed ha partecipato alla ”giornata da favola” per la gioia di tantissimi bambini (e adulti).

I couldn’t find this troll in our collection, so I started to ask around if anyone in the editorial staff could help me with this. After a while I found a woman from Tynset, Else Mary, who has been working with trolls for many, many years, and she remembers that this is troll no 311. She can tell that this troll has not been produced for many years, so Nicole; this is a troll you should take extra, extra care of. She really is a rare woman.

Chi è questo? Nicole Jäger, che vive a Gunzenhausen in Germania, possiede una collezione con 180 Troll Ny Form, ed uno di essi è un raro esemplare di Troll femmina. So che qualcuno mi ha già fatto la stessa domanda: ma chi è questo Troll?

Non sono riuscita a trovare questo Troll nella nostra collezione, perciò ho iniziato a chiedere in giro per vedere se qualcuno del mio staff editoriale mi poteva aiutare. Dopo un po’ ho trovato una signora di Tynset, Else Mary, che ha lavorato con i Troll per molti, molti anni e si è ricordata che questo è il Troll numero 311 (codice poi riutilizzato). E’ una Troll che è stata prodotta molti anni fa, perciò, cara Nicole, si tratta di una Troll della quale devi prenderti una cura davvero speciale. E’ una Troll estremamente rara.

Wer ist sie?Nicole Jäger aus Gunzenhausen in Deutschland hat eine Sammlung, die aus ca. 180 Ny Form Trollen besteht. Einer von ihnen ist eine seltene Trollfrau. Ich kann mich erinnern, dass die Frage nach ihrer Identität schon früher einmal gestellt wurde: Wer ist sie?

Da ich die Trollfrau nicht in unserer Kollektion finden konnte, habe ich die Kollegen aus der Redaktion um Hilfe gebeten. Nach einiger Zeit bin ich auf eine Frau aus Tynset gestoßen, Else Mary, die jahrelang mit Trollen gearbeitet hat. Sie konnte sich erinnern, dass es sich bei der Trollfrau um Nr. 311 handelt. Dieses Modell war nur wenige Jahre auf dem Markt, deshalb sollte Nicole ganz besonders gut auf ihre Trolldame aufpassen. Sie ist wirklich ein sehr seltenes Exemplar.

The last four years ‘T Oude Schuurtje has organised his troll weekend. This event is always well visited by troll collectors and troll friends.

Our two alive Norwegian trolls will make the passage from Norway to Belgium, such as every year, on foot. We expect them here at around 11.00 o’clock on Saturday the 1st of April. We will arrange a beautiful corner, ideal for you to get a picture of yourself with the trolls. A beautiful permanent memory for you!

What can you expect?• We take care of free adapted snacks and drinks.• 10% discounts on all trolls bought this weekend!!• On every troll purchase you receive a free catalogue.• You can winn a troll! Everyone, who has bought a troll during the troll weekend, may fill in a ticket with her or his name and address. Troll Wochenendeam ersten und zweiten April 2006 in ‘t oude schuurtje in Hamont – Belgien. Es ist schon das vierte Jahr hintereinander, dass ‘t oude schuurtje ein Troll Wochenende organisiert. Die Veranstaltung ist immer gut besucht. Trollsammler und Trollfreunde aus nah und fern kommen immer gerne.

Wie jedes Jahr legen unsere zwei echten norwegischen Trolle den langen Weg von Norwegen nach Belgien zu Fuß zurück. Wir erwarten sie am Samstag, den 1. April so gegen 11.00 Uhr! Dann habt ihr die Gelegenheit euch zusammen mit den Trollen photographieren lassen. In einer Ecke errichten wir eine wunderschöne Kulisse, ideal, um sich mit den Trollen ablichten zu lassen. Eine wunderschöne, bleibende Erinnerung für euch!

Was erwartet euch sonst noch?· Für das leibliche Wohl wird gesorgt· 10 % Rabatt auf alle Trolle an diesem Wochenende· Zu jedem Troll gibt es einen Katalog gratis· Jeder, der einen Troll kauft, füllt einen Teilnahmeschein mit Name und Adresse aus. Questo evento è sempre molto gradito e popolato da collezionisti di Troll ed amici dei Troll che arrivano da ogni dove.I nostri due veri Troll norvegesi in carne ed ossa, arriveranno a piedi dalla Norvegia al Belgio, così come fanno ogni anno.
