will be held at the same time. The dates are August 13-15, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We will need volunteers for both the Adult DistrictsAND the Annual Tennis Classic to monitor the water,setup each morning, take down each night, help theofficials, etc. Or if you can't volunteer, perhaps youcould donate a case of water bottles. If you would liketo be one of the volunteers, please contact [email protected].

USTA Tennis Classic to be Held Fourth of July Weekend

Once again, Starmont Winery hasgenerously offered to sponsor ourtournament by donating bottles of wine andsilver platters for the winners and finalists.

On the Fourth of July weekend we will hostour 33rd Annual Napa Valley Tennis Classicand this year it has been named one of theNTRP Grand Slam tournaments of NorthernCalifornia. This means that all players willreceive double NTRP points. Last year wehad the largest number of entries (363) inthe history of the event originally called "TheBeringer".

Hey players! Get ready for some Fun Friday Night Tennis! Matt Forbes had volunteered to head upmixed doubles round robin on the THIRD FRIDAY night of each month starting June 18 throughOctober. Warm up at 5:30pm and Matt will put teams together as they arrive. All levels are welcomefor fun, friendly tennis.

Space is limited to to the top eight courts so email Matt at [email protected] toreserve a space. Drop ins are welcome, space permitting.

Please bring balls, appetizers and drinks to share.

Hey Members, Take a look at all the work that has been going on by our incredible group ofvolunteers.

Rebuilt canopy at court 5. Mark Stuart is the Project Director, Phil Lampe is the Painting Contractor,The lumber movers are Al Facchini, Til Noeggerath, Dick Giusto and Bob Walsh, The destructioncrew was Mark, Al & Bob.

Observation Deck next to court 8. This was donated by Fred Facchini, installed by him with the helpof Al Facchini, Dick Giusto, Zdenek Zahradnicek, Larry Gable, Aaron Blakeley and BarbaraWoodbridge's sons, Fischer and Cameron. Thanks guys!!

SNMWTL Ladies League News

The Sonoma/Napa/Marin Women's Tennis League (SNMWTL) is gearing up for the 2010-2011season to begin in September. So far, NVTA will be fielding 3 teams: A-3, B-1, and B-2. In additionto these three teams, the League is offering a B-3 division for entry-level players. Rosters andchecks are due to the Club Rep by 21 June. End of Season Ladies League Luncheon

Jan Gelow Reports-Once again the boarddid a lovely job. Lotsof fun and lots ofprizes. And the foodwas better this yearthan in years past.Five of us from the B-1 team went, wecame in third over allin this league.

We sat with somemembers from theNVTA A-3 team and 3out of the 8 of us wongreat prizes!! BevHoldsworth won a$200 gift certificate toAthleta Catalog,Sharon Howell won a$200 gift certificate toNordstrom and JaneCunningham won a$300 gift certificate toNordstrom's.

Captain Jan Edwards Reports-The 3.5 B teamaka "Slick Chicks" has had a fantastic seasonso far, we are undefeated at 5-0! Unfortunately,we have a few rainout matches to contendwith, but we are hoping we have reached theend our rainy season! Looking forward tofinishing up the last of our matches andpossibly making it to playoffs in July. SlickChicks are: Sheila Chapman, Susan Collins,Jane Cunningham, Susie Davis, Jan Edwards,Esther Guardardo, Phyllis Harris, SharonHarris, Kim Hocker, Marie Kelly, WhitneyMiller, Anna Nobel, Kim Phinney, SusanSavino, Sue Smith, Karen Waite, NancyWaldeck, and Kathleen Williams

Captain Lorraine Fazzolare Reports-The Women's 4.0 team has had a great season. We have a lotof new players this year from Calistoga, Napa, St. Helena and Sonoma. We've been able to hold ourown against the tough teams of NVCC and Rancho Solano (the Green Valley team is still giving ustrouble.) With only two matches to go, we're confident that we will end the season in playoffs!

Head Pro Rick Hanover Offers Programs for Everyone This Summer

Get out on the courts with Rick and improve yourgame! Check the NVTA website www.napatennis.orgfor schedules and fees.

Our head professional Rick Hanover is a Level 1 USPTA certifiedinstructor. His objective is to provide cutting-edge instruction for alllevels and ages. He has been perfecting his craft for over 20 years.Before coming to NVTA in 2005, Rick was an assistant at the NapaValley CC and Meadowood Resort.

At the 2008 NorCal USPTA fall conference, he was a featured speaker/presenter. He has lednumerous teams to sectional and national championships and worked with the top junior players inthe area such as Phillip Holbrook, Quin Hirshon, Daniella Mirda and Justyn Thomas. Private, semi-private and group lessons are offered throughout the week for both junior and adult students.

The Junior program incorporates a specially designed teaching experience for ages 4-18 and alllevels. The classes are year round with both school and summer seasons. The following is a breakdown of both age and level to accommodate everyone. For registration or questions please call Rickat 707-337-3193.

Mighty Mites - Ages 4-7 This program introduces children to basic tennis strokes and hand-eye coordination skills with an emphasis on fun! We offer a small student/pro ratio for fasterand safer learning.Grass Roots - Ages 8-17 This introductory class starts from the ground up. Forehand andbackhand ground strokes, volleys along with the serve are taught. Skill building games makethe game fun and easy to learn. Our goal is to prepare students for beginning match play.Most students attend two or more days per week to accelerate their level. Please bring aracquet and wear proper tennis shoes.Tournament Preparation Class (entry into class is based on skill not age) An intermediatelevel class designed to prepare players for tournaments and H.S. team. Student must be ableto rally 20 baseline shots in a row to qualify for this level. Progressive strokes, spins andcourt strategy are the main focus. Supervised match play Friday's 12:30-2:30 included.Tournament Players This fast paced and hard hitting class is for the advanced level player.Pro level strokes and strategies are emphasized. Maximizing a players potential is our goal.Attendance must be approved by Rick or Ross.

For adults (18 and up) with a $100 yearly membership in the Napa Valley Tennis Association, wehave numerous USTA leagues for both men and women of all ages and levels. We also offer theNapa Sonoma Marin League for ladies who can play during the day. There will be a new beginnerladies league beginning this fall along with a local Napa Valley team format consisting of a singlesand doubles team from levels 2.5 - 4.0. Cardio Tennis "Hit" your target heart rate while hitting lots of different balls and shots. This one hourfast paced drill to music is designed for all skill levels except those who are new to tennis. It is agreat way to work up a sweat and make new friends without pressure of competition. Class meetsMonday nights at 6pm. New session starts June 21 thru August 2 (no class July 5). Cost is $90 forsession or $20 to "drop-in" if space is available. Please call Rick to sign-up!

Beginning Tennis This one hour class offers a small student per instructor ratio for lots of specialattention at an affordable price. Our head pro Rick will put you on the right path for success in thissix week program. Grips, strokes and basic strategy for singles and doubles will be covered. Newsession starts Friday, June 18 at 10am. Only $96 to learn a sport for a lifetime and make newfriends. Call Rick at 707 337-3193 to register.

This class is for those students who have tennis experience and are either competitive now orwanting to join the local circuit. We will work on-court strategy for singles and doubles and have

matches during the class time. We willalso work technique for those who arehaving particular stroke problems. Thoseplayers 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 andgreater are welcome to register forclass. Payment must be received priorto the first day of class to determine thatwe have enough players to make theclass viable.

Those who are beginners (andintermediates without competitive desire)will be encouraged to register for theregular NVC Tennis Class onMonday/Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Please Close the Gates!!!

If you are the last to leave the courts, please make sure the gates are closed and locked. We havefound them left open overnight several times recently as well as the clubhouse doors. Vandalism hasbeen a big problem in the past and we have spent a great deal of money on secure fencing andmotion lights. PLEASE help keep your courts in good condition by locking up! None of us want extrarepair expenses, right?
