methionine of both powder
(‘Rhodimet® NP99’) and
liquid types (‘Rhodimet®
AT88’). The company also markets a complete range of vitamins under
the ‘Microvit®’ label.
Adisseo also has in its products range an organic selenium
product, ‘Selisseo® 2% Se’, the first of a new generation of organic
selenium products. The big advantage of ‘Selisseo®’ over the more
conventional yeast-based organic selenium products is that it contains
a guaranteed 98% seleno-methionine analogue compared to yeast
products whose content of seleno-methionine is only approximately
60% and very variable.
The advantages of ‘Selisseo®’ in counteracting the harmful effects
of oxidative damage on animal health and performance have been
shown in numerous peer-reviewed published trials.
With ‘Selisseo®’, more selenium can be stored in the animals’
tissue, to be used as a reserve when needed. ‘Selisseo®’ is now being
used in poultry and pig breeder diets to improve fertility and increase
the number of healthy offspring. It is also frequently used in Selenium/
Vitamin E booster nutritional packs for young growing animals,
particularly if they are showing symptoms of poor performance or
disease. It also has big potential in ruminant, fish and pet nutrition.
‘Selisseo®’ is stable in premixes and through pelleting and
extrusion.
A liquid version of ‘Selisseo® 2% Se’ is also available for liquid
nutrition solutions.

ALLTechAlltech has proven that modern
management of mineral nutrition
can be carried out by the
inclusion of organic trace minerals in the form of BIOPLEX® and SEL-
PLEX® at significantly lower levels than inorganic minerals, while still
improving performance. We call this Total Replacement Technology
(TRT™). The Alltech® Mineral Management program guarantees
organic minerals that are better absorbed, stored and utilised by the
animal, and thus able to meet the higher nutrient needs of modern
livestock for rapid growth, maximum reproductive performance and
optimal animal health. Further, TRT corresponds with the global
environmental expectations of reduced mineral excretion.
ALLTECH Q+ ™(Quality Plus) Program ALLTECH Q+ program
is a key element of the Alltech Quality System and was developed in
response to one of the most significant threats to the food chain - dioxin
and PCB contamination in inorganic minerals. Unique to the SEL-
PLEX and BIOPLEX range of organic trace minerals, ALLTECH Q+ is
a mineral quality control program. ALLTECH Q+ guarantees mineral
content. Raw materials are sourced only from approved suppliers
and all incoming raw materials are tested for PCBs, dioxins and other
contaminants, and then tested again prior to delivery. Alltech is the
only company to offer a positive release program for organic trace
minerals.

ANiMiNeAfter the European Medicines
Agency decision of last June, to
ban the pharmacological level of
zinc oxide in piglet diets, solutions will have to be set up to control post
weaning diarrhea in piglets.
Animine, the France based supplier of value-added sources
of trace minerals for animal nutrition, proposes the best alternative
to therapeutic zinc oxide, with HiZox®, a potentiated source of zinc

oxide. HiZox®, manufactured by a patented technology, shows unique
chemical and physical properties compared to standard zinc oxide
products.
Last year, a study, supervised by Dr Joris Michiels from
Ghent University (Belgium) showed that gut integrity, measured
by Transepithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER), was significantly
improved with HiZox supplied at the same level than the negative
control (110 mg/kg: legal dosage in the EU).
More recently they went further and demonstrated that
supplementation with pharmacological dosage of the standard zinc
oxide or with lower dosages of HiZox®, increased gene expression
for tight junction proteins and gene expression for Intestinal Alkaline
Phosphatase, compared to the negative control.
As tight junctions and Intestinal Alkaline Phosphatase play an
important role in the intestinal barrier function, these results are
consistent with an increased gut integrity when using HiZox.

chemical company.
For animal nutrition BASF
offers the feed and petfood
industries, one of the broadest ranges of feed additives. The BASF
product portfolio includes a range of water soluble and fat soluble
vitamins. These are offered in a variety of physical forms to match
customer requirements.
Vitamins are organic substances which are necessary for
maintaining all body functions, including growth, health, fertility and
performance. As a rule the animals body cannot synthesise these
natural biologically active substances itself, which is why they must
be supplied via the feed.
Product safety and efficacy are at the centre of all BASF activities.
Using our extensive research facilities, we constantly develop and
improve our vitamin product range and formulations to meet the needs
of the animal feed industry.
Glycinates
BASF Organically bound trace elements

dsM NUTRiTioNAL PRodUcTs (UK) LTdProfitability in swine production depends on optimizing the lifetime
output per breeding place. Considerable improvements have been
made in reproductive performance, litter size and feed conversion
efficiency, however significant improvement can still be made in lifetime
productivity per sow. Optimum sow and gilt performance can only be
achieved when she is at her healthiest. Achieving high productive
merit requires the supplementation of certain nutrients, including
vitamin D3.
The ‘fast-track’ form of
vitamin D3 is absorbed more
efficiently than conventional
sources and results in an
increase in circulating levels
of the precursor for production of active vitamin D3. Subsequently
the conversion of Hy-D® to the active form is a one-step metabolic
process that is fully responsive to and regulated by the requirement of
the animal. The development of Hy-D® represents a revolution in the
provision of Vitamin D to pigs and poultry.
Hy-D® is an enhanced formulation utilizing patented spray-dried
beadlet technology which provides a more uniform, better flowing
product with good mixability. It is a more bioactive form of Vitamin D3
to the animal containing 25-OH-D3. This is directly absorbable by the
animal and goes into the blood. Because Hy-D® bypasses the critical
metabolic step in the liver, blood plasma can contain much higher
levels of 25-OH-D3. With reduced replacement costs and increased
lifetime performance Hy-D® offers a significant contribution to greater
producer returns.
Vitamin D3 availability
affects body utilization of calcium
and phosphorus both of which
are essential for bone health.
Trial results demonstrate that pigs fed Hy-D® have the basis for best
bone health because they have higher blood levels of 25-OH-D3 than
sows fed equivalent levels of vitamin D3. This results in an increase in
bone mineral density in sows and gilts compared to control animals. This
promotes better gilt conformation and improves lifetime performance.
As sows are stronger there are also benefits in terms of litter size and
piglet weight at birth and at weaning.

KeMiN GB & iReLANd Rumen Protected Lysine, an insight into one of the products within
our portfolio.
Ruminants absorb amino acids and not crude protein. Balancing rations
for the individual amino acids rather than for crude protein alone will
help fine-tune rations and improve feed efficiency. Rumen protected
amino acids ensure that amino acids are available to the cow in the
most effective and efficient way. The ratio of metabolizable lysine
to metabolizable methionine in balanced rations is 3.1:1. Balancing
a ration for amino acids requires an effective source of highly bio-
available methionine (MetDI or digestible methionine). Kemin provides
an effective solution in balancing amino acids by providing the two most
essential amino acids to ruminants in a rumen protected form.
LysiGEM™ is a rumen-protected lysine that results in the most
cost-effective solution when formulating dairy diets based on amino
acid balance. LysiGEM™ combines rumen bypass and proven
intestinal digestible lysine. Lysine plays a significant role in milk and
milk component production; however, particular amino acids such as
lysine must be supplemented into a cow’s diet to achieve optimal levels.
By supplementing specific amino acids into a cow’s diet, her daily
requirement will be met and production will be positively impacted.
Rumen protected lysine inclusion positively influences milk
production regardless of the stage of lactation, however the impact is
greater in early lactation and in multiparous cows. Adding LysiGEM™
to lysine deficient diets will improve efficiency and give nutritionist more
flexibility when choosing raw materials.

NovUs iNTeRNATioNAL, iNc.ALIMET® feed supplement is a
100% effective, liquid source of
88 % active methionine, based
on 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)
butanoic acid (HMTBa). ALIMET results in better animal performance,
especially during times of stress. In addition, ALIMET also delivers an
organic acid effect, reduces nitrogen excretions and offers superior
handling properties.
MHA® feed supplement is a 100% effective, dry source of 84 % active
methionine. MHA is the reference solution for HMTBa inclusion in
premixes and farm feed mills. It delivers organic calcium, reduces nitrogen
excretions and supports performance, especially during heat stress.
MINTREX® chelated trace minerals combine HMTBa (hydroxyl analog
of methionine) with an essential trace mineral in a two-to-one chelated
molecule. In all animal species, the result is greater bioavailability,
digestive tract stability and a residual methionine effect that can reduce
the required level of supplemental methionine per ton of feed. When
using MINTREX, levels of minerals in the diets can be reduced, while
still achieving more in terms of animal performances; as a result,
mineral excretion in the environment is reduced. In swine production,
supplementing sow diets with MINTREX Zn, Cu and Mn chelated
trace minerals demonstrated increased fertility, piglet birth weight and
performance. In commercial poultry production, improvements in bone
strength and skin integrity as a result of MINTREX use can improve flock
homogeneity and reduce condemnations during slaughter. In layers and
breeders, MINTREX helps supporting layer performance, breeders and
their developing chicks.
MAAC® chelated trace minerals were the first chelates recognized
by the European Commission. These minerals are highly bioavailable
due to their combination with a glycine ligand. This allows the mineral to
survive the harsh gut environment to be properly absorbed in the small
intestine. MAAC chelated trace minerals combine glycine as unique and
specific amino acid ligand, with an essential trace mineral (Zn, Cu, Mn,
Fe) in a chelated molecule.
AVIMATRIX is a granulated preparation of benzoic acid, calcium formate
and fumaric acid, encapsulated in a lipid matrix which favourably affects
poultry performance (AVIMATRIX®). Various studies in cooperation with
independent research institutes in Europe and trials performed under
commercial field conditions, show AVIMATRIX improves feed efficiency,
increases growth, and enhances litter quality significantly, reducing the
incidence of footpad lesions. AVIMATRIX, specifically designed to act
profoundly on the intestinal microbiota while ensuring also an excellent
handling convenience (Novus Premium Blend Technology), supports
broiler producers to achieve a better production profitability in an effective
and sustainable way

PANcosMA sAB-TRAXIM®2C: efficient mineral supplementation
Growing scrutiny over the
excretion of minerals and their
effect on the environment,
worker’s health and possible
bacterial resistance, has resulted in decreasing supplementation levels
in animal feed. Reduced supplementation of minerals, but also growing
knowledge about the essential function of minerals to support high
producing farm animals, are reasons that choosing mineral sources is
becoming increasingly important.
Organic trace minerals have been shown to reduce excretion and
at least maintain animal performance, which provides the possibility to
reduce mineral supplementation without compromising performance.
However, not all sources of minerals, organic or inorganic, have the
same impact on bioavailability.
Pancosma SA has developed a range of metal glycinates (iron,
copper, zinc and manganese bound to the amino acid glycine),
B-TRAXIM®2C. Protected by patents, these products are unique,
both for their composition and production process. Research and
development have proved the chemical structure, the stability of the
organic bond and most importantly the improved bioavailability in all the
main species. Using glycine as a ligand, together with the production
process of B-TRAXIM®2C, ensures pure metal glycinates (without
carriers and free-flowing agents) and high metal concentrations.
Product characteristics of mineral sources are important selection
criteria for feed and premix producers around the world. The main focus
is on safety (dust control, smell), cross-contamination in production
facilities (caking, free-flowing characteristics) and distribution in premix
and feed (homogeneity of particle size). B-TRAXIM®2C products are
produced using a specific spray granulation process, providing a very
homogenous, dust-free, odourless, stable and free-flowing micro-
granulate, perfect for premix and feed production.

PhosPheAPHOSPHEA is the European
leader in feed phosphate
manufactur ing. Since the
acquis i t ion of El ix i r feed
phosphates activities in Serbia, the annual production capacity has
reached 770,000 tonnes within its 6 plants located in France, Spain,
Serbia and Tunisia. To secure the supply, we produce MCP (22.7% of
P) in each of these countries. Our product range also contains MDCP
(21 – 21.8 % P), DCP anhydrous and dihydrated (18% P) and specialties:
MAG26, a magnesium phosphate (14% P – 26% Mg) and NEOPHOS a
calcium sodium phosphate (20% P – 20% Ca – 5% Na without Cl).
All our phosphates have different particle sizes, pH, nutritional
and technological properties, therefore, we can help you to choose the
phosphate most adapted to your needs. For example, if you are focusing
on digestibility, MCP and NEOPHOS can both be interesting. Also,
NEOPHOS can provide an advantage in saving space in the matrix
due to its high nutrient density. In the same way, rather than simply
substituting for MCP and MgO, MAG26 brings added value to ruminant
feed production, decreasing the mineral reactivity during the production
process. In conclusion, from calcium phosphates to specialties, we
follow a strict monitoring plan on raw material and end products to
ensure feed phosphates best quality meeting your specific needs.

ThoMsoN & JosePh Thomson & Joseph “The Mineral
Specialists” provide effective
nutritional solutions to resolving
mineral related metabol ic
disorders and diseases in
livestock, including:
MAAC - Metal Amino Acid Chelates, the bioavailable range of
minerals from Novus, the world’s premier supplier of chelates for farm
animals. The MAAC range uses Glycine as the chelating ligand in a
di-peptide heterocyclic molecular structure. Glycine has the lowest
molecular weight of all amino acids and consequently this feature
introduces a smaller molecular size to the MAAC chelate range to
the benefit of mineral absorption and utilisation. Published trials
demonstrate the ability of the MAAC range to improve dairy cow
productivity and fertility.
The use of Glycine as the chelating agent has enabled a
quantitative method of analysis to be developed based on Infrared
Spectroscopy which is capable of directly measuring the key chemical
bonds which determine whether a product is truly chelated. Novus has
also obtained EU Feed Additive registrations for their range of Copper,
Iron, Manganese and Zinc Glycine chelates; this being a prerequisite
to their use in feed and supplements.
SoyChlor – a new generation partial anionic dietetic feed for minimising
hypocalcaemia in dairy cattle at calving. Developed by Professor Jesse
Goff and Dr Ron Horst of the University of Iowa, it incorporates all the
latest research findings on resolving hypocalcaemia, which is the single
most significant cause of economic loss in dairy cattle.
Mineral Analysis – T&J also offers a comprehensive mineral
analysis service covering forages, soils, slurry/manure, water, milk
and feed materials.

Phosphorus (P) is an essential nutrient in animal nutrition, it has
a key role in animal metabolism. Nowadays there is an increased
need for available P in animals since
easily exploitable phosphate deposits
may be exhausted after some decades.
In addition to this we must prevent
oversupply of P leading to excretion
and consequently pollution of the
environment.
In-vivo trials performed at Wageningen University determined the
ileal digestibility of different phosphate sources in broilers:
Phosphorus digestibility (ileal digestibility of feed phosphates)
Product Ileal digestibility (%)
MSP Monosodium Phosphate 89.4
MCP Monocalcium Phosphate 80.1
MDCP Monodicalcium Phosphate 70.7
DCP Dicalcium Phosphate 59.0
DFP Defluorinated Phosphate 31.4
We can confirm from these trials that MSP and MCP are the most
digestible source of P and that diets should be always formulated
based on digestibility rather than availability to decrease P excretion
and maximize efficiency of the phosphorus source.
