3.Improve the safety of high-

alert medications

� Remove the concentrated electrolytes e.g. Potassium Chloride from the crash cart

� To segregate the LOOK-ALIKE and SOUND-ALIKE drugs in the lab

4. Ensure Correct-site,Correct-

Procedure,Correct-Patient Surgery

� Use a checklist, including a TIME OUT , just before starting the

procedure to ensure the right patient, procedure and site.

5.Reduce the risk of healthcare-

associated infections� CDC guidelines, APHIC and OSHA standards

have revised policy. Staff must:

- Wear hair covers when in the lab

- Wear masks during set up trolley and procedure

- During PPM, all staff in the room wear a mask and a hat. The door to the room is kept closed.

BUT……………….

I have never seen an infection from a cath procedure!

� Wearing masks during set up trolley and for pacer procedure is a good idea but a bit of an overkill for a cath.
