That’s why alongside our nursery service, we are also working to offer optional extra services to help families thrive.

Our Nursery Team

We have a wonderful team of nursery practitioners at Chapel St.

With over 20 years experience in child development and Early Years Education, our staff work hard to support every child’s learning and growth.

When your child joins us, we will appoint them a key worker from our staff team. The key worker’s role is to observe your child’s playing and learning interests, and to plan activities and

experiences to support your child’s development.

Every day your key worker will provide you with a record of your child’s session, outlining their play, diet, sleep and toilet patterns.

You can speak to your key worker at any time about your child. We also hold open evenings for you to review their progress. We are committed to partnering with you and your child, in your child’s development.

“Excellent systems are in place to ensure equality and diversity are promoted effectively. Staff make admirable efforts to ensure any achievement gaps are minimised for all children. They do this by providing an excellent educational programme that is underpinned by their knowledge of children's individual learning and developmental needs. They show regard to working with parents and other professionals to ensure children's needs are catered for.”

Our Nursery Environment

Chapel St Family Hub is based in the Cornerstone Building - a wonderful venue for a day nursery. A spacious centre, with a great floor space and lots of natural daylight, the children play in a secure and stimulating environment.

We cater for children from 3 months to 5 years and have created vibrant spaces that are appropriate to each age group.

Our Baby Room

Our designated baby room is welcoming and comfortable, where babies can play safely and sleep peacefully. With colourful, soft rugs, a wide selection of toys, separate changing room and a sleep zone with cots, our popular baby room caters for babies from 3 months.

Red and Green Rooms

We have created two rooms for our toddlers and our pre-schoolers in our main hall. The Red Room is for toddlers from 12 months and our Green Room is for pre-schoolers.

Drawing from the practice and layout of school-based nurseries, both rooms have a ‘zone’ feel, with areas for different types of activities. The home corner, story mat, art zone and construction table all feature. This open-plan environment is conducive to peer-to-peer learning and helps children prepare for school.

Children in both rooms also have times where they can play and learn altogether.

Sleep Zones

For those toddlers and pre-schoolers requiring a day time nap, we have a special sleep area. The sleep zone is nice and quiet, with little pillows, blankets and soft sleeping mats. A member of staff looks after the children while they are sleeping. Babies have their own sleep area within the baby room.

Our Kitchen

Every day, our well equipped kitchen is busy with preparations for all of the children’s meals and snacks. Using fresh, healthy ingredients, all dietary requirements are supported by our on site cook.

Outside Play Areas

Whether it’s playing with ride on toys on our play patio, hearing a story in our wood-chipped ‘Story Tree’ area, or planting vegetables in our grassy garden patch, the children have various options for safe, secure, outdoor fun.

Outdoor excursions

Children also have the opportunity to go on various excursions to the local library, shops and parks. Our pre-schoolers also participate in our active Forest School programme, with nature trips out to Putney Heath.

Out and about with Forest School

Forest School Programme

Chapel St is proud to be running an active Forest School programme.

Forest School is a recognised child development programme that helps children learn and explore the great outdoors.

A programme encouraged by Local Education Authorities, the ethos of Forest School connects to the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters framework. It’s aim is to help children develop confidence and develop new skills by learning about nature.

Through play and personal contact, children learn about the

natural environment, sustainability, risk-taking, co-operation and using initiative to solve problems.

We have a trained Forest School leader at Chapel St, who involves the children (and parents if they wish!) on regular excursions.

Our intrepid little Forest Schoolers have already been on trips to Putney Heath and the windmill at Wimbledon Common. The children also tend their very own gardening patch in our outdoor play area.

We can’t wait for your child to join in the fun. Don’t forget your wellies!

The Family Hub Community

At Chapel St, we know that being a parent is a massively rewarding, yet busy and demanding role!

We want to do all that we can to support you and that’s why, alongside our nursery service, we aim to offer optional extra services and resources for parents too.

So far, we’ve run workshops on how to help your child learn through play, cooking family friendly meals and our Forest School programme. We have many more planned for the future too.

Our Parent’s Forum

Parent involvement in all that we do is really important to us at the Family Hub.

Our Parents Forum is a group open to Family Hub parents. It’s aim is to help parents meet up, share experiences and feedback ideas to the Family Hub team.

It’s our goal to make our service the best it can possibly be and we want to involve our parents in helping us do that. Our Parent Forum is coordinated by volunteer Parent Reps, along with the Family Hub staff.

Parent Participation

Children learn in all sorts of ways, from all sorts of people. As well as our active nursery programme, we like to create learning opportunities for the children in which their parents can also participate. From Forest School trips, community visits from the Fire Brigade and Police service, Christmas plays or summer picnics in the park, we aim to create memorable moments for children and parents.

Signposting Services

There is a wealth of resources and expertise available for young families in Wandsworth. Chapel St is working to develop links with different services and specialists in the area. From the local library, the University, Local Authority and Community Health service, we hope to be a helpful signpost to the great resources that are around.

Supporting Student Parents

Chapel St is supporting the Roehampton Parent’s Club - a new initiative of Roehampton University’s Student Welfare Office. Balancing the demands of study and family life is challenging and this group is here to connect student parents and provide support and advice.
