Additional Activities Even / Odd Number Line
Materials Needed:
1 pencil
1 ruler
1 sheet of blank paper
1 blue crayon, color pencil or marker
1 green crayon, color pencil or marker
Instructions:
Have students use their pencil and ruler to draw a straight number line.
Afterwards, instruct them to use their blue and green utensils to complete the
number line with green odd numbers and blue even numbers.
Hold ‘em Up!
Materials Needed:
scissors
tape or glue (optional)
2-4 popsicle sticks or rulers per student (optional)
Instructions:
Have students cut out the even/odd and true/false cards on the next page. They
can either tape/glue the cards to their popsicle sticks or rulers OR they can
leave them as is.
Inform students, this is a SILENT ACTIVITY.
Even / Odd Cards:
You will say or write down a number on the board. Once students see or hear
the number, it is their job to hold up the correct answer.
For example, write the number 451 on the board. Give students 10 seconds
to think about their answers. Once you say “HOLD’EM UP!”, each student
should hold up the odd card facing you.
Tell students they must keep their cards in the air until you have seen all
responses and instruct them to put their cards down.
If you wish, you can turn it into a game…
Once you see wrong answers in the air, those students are out. As you dwindle
down, students who answer too slowly or who wait to see other student cards
are also eliminated.
True / False Cards:
Here you will make several statements along the lines of:
“Santa has an even number of reindeer.”
“The year 2013 will be an even numbered year.”
“Mrs. Claus is 83 years old. Her age is an odd number.”
“The address to this school is an even number.”
“An even number plus an even number is always an even number.”
Students respond by holding up their “true” or “false” cards.
This can either be a game or an assessment.
Have Fun!
