In the mornings lectures on NMR will be taught on the basis of the book "A complete introduction to modern NMR Spectroscopy" of Roger Macomber. The lectures also contain a practical part, using tutorials from the book. In the afternoons the program will continue with lectures on the most important applications of NMR, taught by experts from academia and industry. At the end of the day you will work on a case using a NMR spectrometer. The obtained data will be used to elucidate the structure of small molecules. The course is given in English. Target audience This course is taught in the framework of the MSc+ program for talents in Master (university) education. The course is also aimed at PhD-students in analytical sciences or related fields who are not specialized in NMR (ANAC-basic course). Finally, the course is suitable for graduates (BSc, MSc and PhD) interested in NMR and seeking additional knowledge and understanding. Lecturers

Prof. Dr. Arno Kentgens is Professor of Physical Chemistry/Solid State NMR Spectroscopy at the Institute for molecules and materials at Radboud University, Nijmegen. The Kentgens group of Radboud University is one of the partners in the Dutch National Roadmap for large-scale NMR facilities (uNMR-NL). Kentgens studied physical chemistry at the University of Nijmegen and completed his PhD thesis on the development of two-dimensional solid-state NMR in 1987. Dr. Ernst van Eck is Associate Professor Physical Chemistry/Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy at the Institute for molecules and materials at Radboud University Nijmegen. Prof. Dr. Marc Baldus is Professor Structural Biology and head of the NMR Spectroscopy group at the University of Utrecht. Baldus received his PhD from ETH Zürich where he worked under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Richard Ernst. He has been professor of structural biology at Utrecht University from 2008. In 2014 he was the first scientist working in the Netherlands honored with the prestigious Günther Laukien Prize. Dr. Victor Litvinov is a senior scientist at DSM Resolve in Geleen. He is responsible for characterization of chemical and physical structures in organic and inorganic materials by solid-state NMR techniques, applications of the method for quality control and establishing structure-property relationships in material research. Litvinov graduated in 1973 from the Moscow Academy for Fine Chemical Technology. In 1978, he received his PhD in macromolecular chemistry. Dr. Young Hae Choi is Assistant Professor at Leiden University at the Division of Pharmacognosy, Section Metabolomics, Institute of Biology. Prof. Dr. John van Duynhoven is expertise team leader spectroscopy and microscopy at Unilever R&D and he is part-time professor Biophysics at Wageningen University. In 1991 he received his PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen, Department of Biophysical Chemistry.

Prof. Dr. Aldrik Velders is Professor BioNanoTechnology at Wageningen University. Velders studied chemistry at the University of Utrecht and received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Leiden. Prof. Dr. Arend Heerschap is professor in Biomedical Magnetic Resonance at the Department of Radiology, Radboud University Nijmegen. Heerschap studied biochemistry at the VU University Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in (biophysical) chemistry from Radboud University on a high resolution NMR study of transfer RNA. Koen Tijssen MSc, Ole Brauckmann MSc, Manvendra Sharma MSc, Merijn Blaakmeer MSc, and Bas van Meerten MSc are PhD students of the solid state NMR group of the IMM at Radboud University.

You will have (re-)gained a good understanding of NMR and you will have gained detailed knowledge in a number of key areas.

This course is taught as an MSc+ Summer Course and an ANAC basic course and is taught every year. Costs of the course:

Special fees can be offered to companies registering for three or more persons. Lunch is included.
