Such highs and lows are likely what has helped to build

the high energy stage show that has attracted such a

growing ollowing. The band has played three tours,

and many large estivals including Virgin Fest, SXSW,

NXNE, and CMJ. They also ound themselves winners

o Spin Magazines Free the Noise competition that

saw them fown to New York City to perorm in a

temporarily rebuilt CBGBs.

Their music has also ound its way onto many TV

shows and lms, including Shameless, Breaking In,

Vampire Diaries, and Pretty Little Liars, and their

rst single, Funeral Song, has already ound warm

reception in the short time since its online release.

The band ormed in 2008 in Calgary during what

Angus calls a whiskey storm. Angus and the two

other ounding members bassist Jerey Lewis

and drummer Alan Reain were joined last year by

two Australian ex-pats, Shane O Keee and Lauren

Heron. Angus says the two brought exactly what

we were missing at exactly the right time to the

group, including what he calls those dreamy oreign-

sounding accents.

Fans can expect a tour o Canada and the US all 2013,and the release o Aterlie Blueson October 8, 2013.

guitarist Nick Hexum, produced and mixed by Jim Scott.

The quintet includes Gary Novak, Zack Hexum, Andrs

Rebelln and Luke Miller. Over the years, Nick Hexum

has found a multitude of creative outlets. Aside from

leading 311 to multi-platinum-success, Hexum has taken

on the role of producer, working with acts such as Lenny

Kravitz, Jason Mraz, No Doubt, Pepper, and Seal, and

even producing the Gold-certified soundtrack for the

film 50 First Dates. Now, Hexum has developed an outlet

for musical expressions that deviates from the heavier

Alternative Rock riffs of 311. This exciting new side

project, titled The Nick Hexum Quintet allows the

musician to experiment in additional genres. Sounds

from laid-back rock, as well as funk, jazz and pop, unified

in a jam-like ensemble. I wanted to have an outlet that

had a different arrangement with saxophone and B3 and

more keyboards and more Jazz tones. Theres no heavy

anything on the entire album, its much more laid back,

its more chill and funky and lighter than heavy, and you

know, 311 does heavy great so I wanted to explore

something different.
