DC’s Report

I hope you all enjoyed the talk from Kim Johnson at the October Rally. Thank you Wendy for organising

Kim and all the appointments for the members to get their horses checked.

Congratulations to Erin Deacon who passed her D Certificate at the October Rally. Thanks to Sam K for

taking Erin through the assessment.

Great to see lots of members taking the opportunity to compete at our Dressage Day on 27th October. Well

done to you all. The Events Committee and especially Mandy did a great job making it a very successful

day. A big thank you to Brian co-ordinating the clean up on Saturday and Dani co-ordinating the setup of

the arenas. There was a good number of helpers on Saturday putting in whatever hours they could spare.

Another big thank you to Rhonda and Janet who spent Friday buying supplies, Saturday preparing and

organising the canteen and Sunday doing a great trade. Also thank you to Diana who organised the lucky

tickets and cake stall which both did very well on the day. Last but not least, thank you to every person that

helped out over the weekend, as the event could not have run so well without you all.

We have James Harvey, a horse dentist coming to the November Rally and he will give a talk after lunch

break.

As Steph and Caitlyn will be out competing on our rally day we will have Elizabeth Cameron teaching

Brown Group and Pat Dyson will take Pink Group. Red Group will have Naomi White this month and as

Dani is riding in Red Group, Linda Hardy will take Purple Group. Linda was here last month filling in for

Caitlyn with Pink Group. Also Beth is competing at the Dandenong Show, thank you to Lisa Stocker who

will take Yellow Group this rally.

As you will see, I have done a review of all the groups so please check as you may be in a different group.

You may also be in the same group, but this does not mean you have not improved. If you look closer, the

grading for that group has probably changed. I have tried to take into account dressage grading’s, jumping

capabilities of horse and rider, riders with new horses and/or young horses at this point of time. If you have

any concerns, please come and see me. The next major review should be in another six months’ time.

See you all at the Rally.

Anna

Presidents Report Hi everyone,

To those who competed at our recent message day, well done! I have had comments made about how well the day

ran. A great effort by the events committee. You did the club proud. It’s always nice to have other clubs comment on

our competitions and say they will be back next year.

Due to other competition comments I will not be at the November or December rally but Janet Thompson will be

standing in as vice president so please support her.

For those who compete at grade 3 2 and 1 in dressage, I would like to clarify the rule regarding the length of whip

allowed. As of February 2013 the length was increased to 1200mm. The rules have not changed with regards to horse

trials dressage. There will be a revision done on all rules in February 2014 and it is up to the riders to read so you

know of any changes. I hope this clarifies the rule for those who asked.

Happy riding!!!!! Sue Korver

Doongala Pony Club is looking for you to create a MISSION STATEMENT Your Mission Statement will go down in HISTORY!!! We will be using it for grant applications to raise money for the club and it will appear on the website with our logo, along with going on the newsletter, on our competition forms and many other places, including on signage around the club like on the front gate and in the clubrooms. HINTS: A mission statement is essential to clarify the intentions of our club. The mission statement should guide the actions of our club, spell out its overall goals & provide a path for the future! Try to sum up our entire clubs mission in one or two sentences. Inspire and encourage our members! Think of words like belonging, sportsmanship, friendly, horse mastership, encouragement, care, loyalty, self discipline....etc etc A BOX WILL BE PLACED ON THE FRONT TABLE AT EACH RALLY GOOD LUCK !

Out And About Doongala Dressage Day

Well ....this was my first Dressage competition & I was surprised I came 1st! I had a lot of fun but my mum was

emotional (I laughed at her!)... I was nervous and had butterflies in my tummy but Jasper was cool and calm and very good as always.

I wanted to steal the blue rosette that was sitting on the presentation table. But it ended up being mine somehow :))))!!!

I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to Emma Cameron & Linda Hardy for helping me!

Lots of love from Jessie Carter 😄

Hi my name is Natasha and on our dressage day I came fourth. It was really fun. I won two ribbons, one for

participation and one for coming fourth. I also got brushes and a hoof pick for competing in grade 5A.

Natasha Burchall

Page 12: November Newsletter 10 Nov Rally - Pony Club · 2013-11-13 · Card Secretary Trish Contencin 0439 382 465 trimart@optusnet.com.au Uniforms Melissa Myszka 0412 282 565 myszka01@optusnet.com.au

Hi my name is Hamish I practised a lot to do test 5A at our dressage day. I was having a good time until

Monty decided not to do what he was told and he jumped out of the arena and ran across another arena and

bucked me off. I stayed on until he got close to the other end. When I fell off I broke my helmet. I still won

a participation ribbon even though I had to retire.

Hamish Burchall

This was my second dressage competition because I usually compete in Games. Toby and I only did one

test because I didn’t think I could remember two tests. We did 5C and we came 2nd…!!! It was a fun day

and I really enjoyed it. Toby seemed to enjoy it too.

Tully Green

On the 27th of October Zazu and I entered our first dressage comp together at Doongala’s Dressage Day. My

first test was at 11:14am and both Zazu and I were nervous but excited at the same time. As soon as we

entered that ring, we went into serious mode and started concentrating. At the end I came out of the ring

with a huge smile on my face and I gave Zazu all the pats and praises for being such a good boy and

performing so well. Once the first test was over with, the nerves started to die down and I entered the ring

for my second test with a smile on my face. With the second test, I didn’t know it as well as my first one, but

I somehow managed to remember it and ended up getting better marks than my first test! Anyway, for the

first test I came 5th and the second test I came equal 6th. Overall I came 6th which I was very happy with

because this was both Zazu’s and my first dressage test. I was so happy with Zazu and my results.

My sister Natalie and I (Caitlyn) had a lovely day competing at Doongala’s recent dressage day. After a break from the competition scene Natalie and Musketeer returned to the dressage arena looking better than ever and Musky showing off his dark liver summer coat already! They performed well in their first test, 3C, with only a few minor mistakes, all in all a great test after not having done one for a while, they were 7th. The second test, 3E was even better still, a lovely, forward flowing and confident test, they were delighted to take 2nd place! Natalie and Musketeer placed 4th overall in PCAV Grade 3 and it was great to see this great combination back out together, hope to see more of them soon! I was pleased to be able to enter as there was open sections I could compete in which meant I got to get my new mare Larundel Geisha (Scally) out and about for some practice in the dressage arena. She was a little tense in the first test, 2C, and couldn’t quite find her rhythm or confidence, she placed 2nd. By the second test, 2E, she had settled and was working beautifully, she was soft and much more forward, she came 1st in 2E. I was very impressed with her as some of the movements, she has only just been introduced to recently, including counter canter. There were also some 10 meter turns onto the centre line in canter that I was worried about as she is 17.5hh and has a huge stride, but she coped wonderfully. We ended up 2nd overall in the Open 2 section.

Caitlyn Hulme

Thank you so much to everyone that made the dressage day so amazing both Megan and I had a great time with both our boys first comp in grade 4 with Randolf placing 6th and my boy Ruben placing 10th super proud :) Somer Anderson

Doongala’s Dressage Day was held on the 27th of October and it was all hands on deck!!!! I was there first thing on the Saturday to organise the set-up of all the arenas, let me tell you it was not straightforward!!! After measuring once, twice and three times, much deliberation between myself and Lisa, we finally decided on the best way to manage having all 4 dressage rings running at once so that they would match with the times Mandy Burchall had organised. If the back arena was 2 metres longer it might have been different but alas it isn’t but we worked it out anyway! I can’t name everyone who helped as I’d hate to miss anyone but thank you all for helping set up the arenas! Special mention to Caitlyn Hulme and Julie Winchester you guys were an awesome help to Lisa and I! After many hours of adjusting and taking rules into account finally the ring plan inc. warm up was completed!! It was then time to report back to Mandy and explain what we had set-up and how it was going to have to be run in order to stick to the current dressage rules and make it fair for all competitors.

Page 14: November Newsletter 10 Nov Rally - Pony Club · 2013-11-13 · Card Secretary Trish Contencin 0439 382 465 trimart@optusnet.com.au Uniforms Melissa Myszka 0412 282 565 myszka01@optusnet.com.au

I was then off home to ride, wash and plait up Amigo ready for our second outing together! He was a superstar and much more relaxed than the previous week but unfortunately the first judge didn’t think he was so relaxed, imagine if she’d saw his first excited test the previous week! LOL! We finished 3rd, 2nd and 2nd overall in the Open Grade 1 but I was really proud of his efforts for the day we whisked him home to return to club and finish our commitments for the day, gear checking late into the afternoon. (lucky we were in an awesome spot to watch everyone ride their tests!) Well done to the girls I teach privately, Kaylah, Shaylie, Emma, Mairead and Meagan you guys did me so proud!!! Also a huge congratulations to all the Doongala Members who competed, it’s awesome to watch you all ride your tests, all plaited up and looking amazing! Thanks to the Events Committee for running the day you did a super job! Looking forward to next year

p.s Matilda says hi everyone she misses you all and can’t wait till she is sound enough to come to Rally

Show Jumping Clinic

On Sunday the 3rd both Sue Korver and I (Stephanie Crossett) ran a small show jumping clinic for our riders as a fund raiser for the club. It was so wonderful that the parents of the riders helped us both set up and pack up the 2 courses we set up for the lessons. They say many hands make light work and they weren't wrong! So a big thank you to all those who helped! We had 8 riders in total attended the clinic, so we had split them into 2 groups and they had 1.5 hour lesson to allow for discussing what we were doing and explain anything further. Each rider had their own little things that needed to be worked with and with the smaller groups it allowed for more time with each rider. It was so

good to see all the riders with a smile on their face and them having some fun! We will be running another fund raising clinic on December 1st for anyone else who would be keen to attend :)

All up thanks to the riders that attended we will be donating $320 back to the club! Thank you everyone and we hope to see you again at our next clinic :)

Somer Anderson

Hi everyone. Hope you have all been having fun riding since last rally. I recently attended the SJ Clinic at DPC with Sue and Stef. Having the opportunity to practice my Show jumping with expert instruction is something I really enjoyed, and Clyde and I really came together as a team. (I also managed to fall off Clyde for the 1st time. Lol). Everyone who attended seemed to really enjoy it, and got a lot out of it. It was great for everyone's confidence, and many riders achieved their personal best SJ efforts. I hope there will be more SJ clinics in the future, and would like to

MT DISTRICT DRESSAGE DAY On the 20th of October, Raffa and I competed at our first ever dressage competition which was at Mountain District Horse and Pony Club. In warm up we were having some trouble working together but as soon as we entered the dressage test we both switched on and managed to come away with a 3rd place ribbon!!! This was a great experience for us both and i learned a lot from it :) Samantha Adam
