Motorists Are Warned To Watch For Deer

Submitted by North Dakota Game & Fish Dept.Motorists are reminded to watch for deer along roadways,

    -persing from their home ranges.

October through early December is the peak period for deer-vehicle accidents. Motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution after dark to reduce the likelihood of encounters with deer along roadways. Most deer-vehicle accidents occur primarily at dawn and dusk when deer are most often moving around.

Motorists should be aware of warning signs signaling deer are in the area. When you see one deer cross the road, look for a second or third deer to follow. Also, pay attention on roadways posted with Deer Crossing Area caution signs.

-cident does happen, motorists are reminded that a law passed by the 2013 state legislature eliminates the need for the driver involved in an accident to notify law enforcement authorities, if only the vehicle is damaged. Deer-vehicle accidents that involve

carcass of a road-killed deer. Permits are free and available from

-erty damage in a deer-vehicle crash. Always wear your seat

lose control of your vehicle or slam into something else to miss

ahead, slow down immediately and honk your horn.

    Watercraft Inspection Season Wrap-up

Submitted by Montana FWPMontana Fish, Wildlife & Parks checked more than 36,000

private and commercial boats this season under a state law that requires all motorists hauling watercraft—from trailers with

atop cars and pick-up trucks—to stop at inspection stations.FWP operated inspection stations and roving crews from

late May to early September at well-marked roadway locations

curb the risk of aquatic invasive species from attaining a foothold in Montana waters. The annual education and enforcement effort, which this year included multiple chances to win prizes from local sponsors, checked about 28,500 watercrafts being hauled by residents and 7,500 by nonresidents.

The most likely aquatic invasive species threats to Montana waters include quagga and zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil, and VHS virus. They are easily transported from water to water by popular recreational activities like boating and angling.

been fouled by zebra or quagga mussels, 53 found with other AIS contaminants and 176 more contained standing water or aquatic vegetation.

In past years, more than 30 percent of all motorists hauling watercraft were not stopping for inspection, and some of those boats were likely harboring AIS. This year, nearly 40 Montana

guides and outdoor shops, donated 70 prizes valued at $6,000 in a concerted effort to entice motorists hauling boats to stop for inspection. More than 8,400 boaters entered the drawing

was overwhelming and I look forward to conducting it again -

cluded 57 Montanans and 13 nonresidents, including two from Alberta, Canada. Motorists who stopped had their equipment inspected—and cleaned if needed—and received information on how to prevent the spread of AIS in Montana.

Montana State Parks Seeks Public Comment On Hell Creek State Park Master Site/Management Plan

Submitted by Montana FWPMontana State Parks announced today that it is seeking

public comment on the Hell Creek State Park Draft Master Site/Management Plan. Public Comments are due by Wed., Nov. 25, 2015 at 5 p.m.

Hell Creek State Park is an important recreation area lo-cated on the Fort Peck Reservoir, near Jordan, MT. The area is

As the popularity of the park has grown, so has the demand on natural resources, infrastructure and agency management. Montana State Parks developed the draft site/management plan in order to identify management and infrastructure challenges,

site. On Oct. 15, 2015, the Montana State Parks & Recreation Board approved the draft site/management plan to be submitted for public comment. The draft plan proposes three options for consideration.

Option #1: Address the existing site infrastructure needs, make priority improvements and continue to manage the site and concession beyond the current Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) Agreement end date of April 2021 with a new contract or extension. This is the preferred alternative.

Option #2: Address the existing site infrastructure needs,

site boundary beyond the current ACOE Agreement end date of April 2021. In this option, Montana State Parks would relinquish the management of the concession operations to the ACOE

In Option #3: Montana State Parks would return the site to the ACOE in April 2021 or sooner, according to the terms of the ACOE-State of Montana Agreement. The Division would make only minimal infrastructure improvements until the end of the agreement period.

The public is invited to review the draft site/management plan and provide comments by Wed., Nov. 25, 2015 at 5 p.m.

A complete version of the Hell Creek State Park Draft Master Site/Management Plan is available at: http://stateparks.mt.gov/hell-creek/

To submit a public comment online visit stateparks.mt.gov and click on “Submit Comments” or by direct link here: http://stateparks.mt.gov/news/publicNotices/board/pn_0012.html

Submit comments by email to [email protected].

The public may also send comments by regular mail to: Hell Creek Master Plan, c/o Maren Murphy, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701.
