Scott and Barb’s grandson had a serious medical issue, and they are spending their time at Children’s Hospital. Please keep their grandson and the Burke family in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Recapping last month, a small gathering of members hopped on the Amtrak and headed for Chicago. The mission, to explore the history and tales of Chicago’s infamous gangsters via the Untouchable Tours bus. Then, later on in October, we had one of our educational meetings hosted by the Halsteads and McElwees. A tour of the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences proved to be very interesting and informative. Of course, being boaters, the opportunity to board the school’s flagship reasearch vessel, the Neeskay, was a real treat. This month starts out with Wednesday Madness on the 7 th , and a tour of the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford and then heading out to The Mineshaft for dinner. Craig Heser will do his best to stump us with a trivia contest during our November 15 th meeting where we will also be electing our officers for 2019. Be sure to get your reservations in to Connie for the Commodore’s ball on Friday November 30 th . Look for the sign up sheet later on in this publication. Listening to the wind howl outside my window and hearing the open waters forecast for Lake Michigan of waves 12’ to 16’ , peaking at times to 21’, it is a good thing that our vessels are snug in their wintering berths until next season. Club members took a tour of UW-Mil-waukee Graduate School of FreshwaterSciences. Greg Stamatelaks, the Captainof the school’s research vessel, Neeskay, gave us a great overview of the school’son water program, which then followedwith a tour of the Neeskay. Its name isderived from the language of the Ho-Chunk, a Wisconsin Native AmericanTribe, and it means “pure, clean water” –the school’s vision for the Great Lakes. The Neeskay is the only year round re-search vessel on the Great Lakes. Beforethe Neeskay was reconstructed as a re-search vessel in 1970, it was an ArmyT-Boat used for tug and transport dutiesduring the Korean War.

After our boat tour, Liz Sutton, Out-Reach Coordinator, gave us a tour of theschool’s facilities, including several re-search laboratories.

Following the tour, we had a shortmembership meeting, then headed to Bot-ana’s Restaurant for some liquid libationand an early dinner.
