COBDEN DISTRICT PUBLIC SCHOOL
NOVEMBER 2014
Dear Parents, Staff & Students,
With the end of October comes the completion
of several events and activities at CDPS. Our Flag Football
team once again represented us well at the County
Tournament. Although we did not win the title, our
players should be proud of how close they were in
every game and how their skill level improved with
every down while maintaining the kind of teamwork and
character that makes us proud to be cougars.
Speaking of Character, never has that been more
evident than with our cross country team this year. I’m
sure many of you have already heard about one of our
students, Ryan McIntyre, sacrificing a career best run to
help a crying student from another school off of the course after that student had fallen and
injured his leg. Wow. This, on top of the outstanding showing at all of the meets makes all of the
staff at CDPS proud.
We have just finished the annual magazine fundraising campaign. Once again, I’d like to
thank all of the students for their hard work and all of the parents, friends and family of our
sales force for supporting this initiative. Proceeds will be used to support our students with
technology, yard equipment and possibly field trips. Your partnership and support in this is
extremely important and certainly appreciated.
It is also that time of year again for
Progress Reports. They will be sent home
with students on November 11. Please
take the time to chat with them about this.
Ask them what they are most proud of.

participation in these events
is always an honour.
Attention Parents &
Guardians…
As some of you have noticed, the doors of CDPS are all locked through the school day
including the front door. There is a button to ring for a staff member to buzz you in.
This is located on the right hand side of the door. Once you are buzzed in, simply pull on
the door handle and it should open. Pull hard, because it can be a little stiff to
open. We are constantly looking for ways to make our schools safe, caring environments. Thank you for all of your support in this
and all endeavours.
The Cobden Cougars Flag Football Team Horton Cup Flag Football tournament October 2nd

RIGHT TO PLAY was at Cobden School on Friday October 24th. Students were reminded about the importance the role of active games have in building community, positive relationships, gender equity as well as good health. Former Team Canada Figure Skater Anthony Evans spoke to students about the importance of commitment to a purpose and the sacrifice it often takes to achieve one's goals. The presentation was for the grade
three to eight classes. Please ask your daughter or son about the presentation.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY Just a reminder to students that
safety is important to keep the evening exciting and accident-free.
The following is a list of safety tips for children: Wear a light coloured costume. Make-up is better than a mask. Wear a short costume so you don’t trip.
Use a flashlight to light your way. Trick-or-
treat on one side of the street then the other side.
Go out with parents or friends.
Discuss your plans with your par-ents.
Never go inside a strange house, apartment or car.
Have a parent check your treats before eating them.
Know the Block Parent homes in your area.
Be Safe!
