Pastors Corner On this First Sunday of the Advent, the readings invite us to ask ourselves, “are we so caught up with this life that we are forgetting it’s only a preparation for a life to come?” Jesus warns us in today’s gospel: “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life.” Jesus tells us to watch and pray. Watch and pray for the coming of the Lord, which will signal the end of this life and the start of the next life. Watch and pray for the coming of the Lord! This theme is repeated again and again in different ways in the Gospel. Thus, Jesus says in another place: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come… whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning…..what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”(Mk 13:33,35-36) And so, Advent invites us to watch and pray for the coming of the Lord. The Church’s message on this First Sunday of Advent is “Watch and pray!” Watch and pray that the Lord may be able to say to you, also, when he comes: “Welcome, dearest friend. After all these years, it’s, indeed, good to meet you face-to-face.” En este primer domingo de Adviento, las lecturas nos invitan a preguntarnos: "¿Estamos tan atrapados en esta vida que nos olvidamos de que es solo una preparación para una vida por venir?" Jesús nos advierte en el evangelio de hoy: "Tengan cuidado de que sus corazones no se adormezcan por las juergas y las borracheras y las ansiedades de la vida diaria". Jesús nos dice que velemos y oremos. Observe y ore por la venida del Señor, que marcará el final de esta vida y el comienzo de la próxima. ¡Velad y orad por la venida del Señor! Este tema se repite una y otra vez de diferentes formas en el Evangelio. Por eso, Jesús dice en otro lugar: “¡Estad atentos! ¡Estar alerta! No sabéis cuándo llegará el momento ... sea por la tarde, sea por la medianoche, o al canto del gallo, sea por la mañana ... ... lo que os digo, a todos os digo: ¡Velad! ”(Mc 13,33, 35-36) Y así, el Adviento nos invita a velar y orar por la venida del Señor. El mensaje de la Iglesia en este primer domingo de Adviento es "¡Velad y orad!" Observe y ore para que el Señor pueda decirle, también, cuando venga: “Bienvenido, querido amigo. Después de todos estos años, es un placer conocerte cara a cara ".

Women’s Organization Advent Tree The St. Thomas Women's Organization has put up their Advent Tree in the Narthex. They are collecting toys, clothes for men, women and children, and toiletries such as soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, etc. All donated items are going to Safe Haven and Linwood residents. Please bring your donations by December 15th so that we can drop off in time for Christmas. Thank you in advance for your generosity. La Organización de Mujeres de Santo Tomas ha colocado su Árbol de Adviento en el templo. Están recolectando juguetes, ropa para hombres, mujeres y niños, y artículos de tocador como jabón, champú, loción, pasta de dientes, etc. Todos los artículos donados van a los residentes de Safe Haven y Linwood. Blessing of the Advent Wreath

Lord our God, we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ: he is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples, he is the wisdom that teaches and guide us, he is the Savior of every nation. Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of this wreath. Mat the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ’s promises to being us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay.
