upmost respect• If you choose to behave poorly or fail to follow policy (CEA, Novancia, etc.), you WILL be sent home on your own dime! • This includes:• Alcohol / Drugs / Partying • Class Attendance / Tardiness • Disrespect to Instructors / Program / CEA/ Faculty Advisors / Peers /
French Culture / Tour Guides / Locals • This is a STUDY ABROAD program, not a vacation – if at any point your education appears to become a secondary priority, you will be asked to depart the program.

Booking Flights• Departure date = May 15th • Arrival date = May 16th • Return date = June 15th • Flights MUST fly into the Charles De Gaulle Airport and arrive NO LATER than 6:00 p.m. May 16th in Paris• Prepaid transportation does not include airports other than
Charles De Gaulle (both ways)!• If you arrive before May 16 or leave after June 15, you will need
to find your own transportation & housing during those times• Travel with a buddy; do not travel alone!• Take a direct flight; no connecting flights!• Avoid flying on “stand-by”• All flight information is DUE to Kristen by Friday, April 8th at 12pm.

Arriving in Paris • Step #1: collect your baggage & go through customs • Step #2: navigate to designated terminal • Step #3: look for CEA representative
• If you get lost, go to the orange service desks (they speak English!) • If your flight arrives late or you get lost, contact CEA at 011 33 6 63 25 09 20• CEA staff will greet you and lead you to shuttles that will bring you to the CEA Study Center for a short debrief. You will then be taken to your apartments

Transportation • Metro
• CEA will provide you with a weekly pass for the duration of the program
• Do not bring valuables onto the Metro• Hold your items in front of you (pick-pockets are common) • Do not take the Metro after 10:00pm – take a bus/cab• Your Metro pass is only good for zones 1 & 2 • All other travel requires the purchase of an additional ticket
• Metro Rush Hour = TRAFFIC! Plan accordingly!• Stay hydrated! It gets crowded and hot! • Personal space does not exist on the Metro!• When crowded, please stand up!

Novancia Etiquette • Arrive on-time (or early) to class every day• Give yourself enough time to miss a metro train• Plan accordingly for Professor Armoogum’s site visits • Be respectful of the times he requests • Bring extra euros for entrance fees
• You may NOT miss or leave early from a class to accommodate travel or sight-seeing plans • Meal & coffee invitations from professors • These are not optional! • This will be framed as “shall we take coffee?”• To be polite, the professor will get his food/drink last; wait outside for
him/her before seating yourself • Speak softly in common areas• Only water is allowed in the classrooms • Adhere to dress code (business casual)
Parisian Culture• Parisian Fashion• Neutral colors • Flats (no flip-flops)• Business causal (date casual)• No sweat pants in public!• No screen t-shirts • Dining • Tipping is not necessary unless your experience was superb • Duration of meals is longer than American culture • Main course will not be delivered until appetizers have been cleared • Dinner time is commonly 8PM• Accepting drinks from others indicates your interest • You must request the check when you’re done • Checks will not be separated; bring enough cash to cover your portion • You must take your time while eating; you will offend Parisians if you
eat quickly

will expect you to be• Traveling• Pedestrians do have the right of way;
but traffic does not stop for you! • Stay alert – electric cars, taxis, scooters,

in a foreign country!

Safety•While sight-seeing• Cat Calls• Don’t respond! • Romas (gypsies) & common ploys: • Do not accept children • Signing petitions • Keep valuables in zipped bags•Metro travel• Avoid the metro past 10:00p.m. (take a bus/cab) • Do not pull out valuables on the metro (keep phones in
zipped bags)• Travel with a buddy• Keep bags closed and in front of you• MEN! Carry wallets and phones in front!
Currency• Approximate exchange rates:• 1 Euro = $1.12 US dollars • 5 Euro = $5.62 US dollars• 10 Euro = $11.24 US dollars
• The French prefer exact change• Especially small establishments
• Withdraw Euros weekly• Exchange rates are costly• Be aware of ATM & exchange fees
• Your debit/credit cards may not work in French establishments – pay with cash! • ATM machines will work fine
• Use caution; handle your cash as you would here in the States • Avoid airport and train station currency exchanges = EXPENSIVE! • Be aware of international charges! • Conversion charges• International charges
• Do not carry all your cards/cash at the same time (leave some in your apartment)
Weekend Trips• Book it before you go• Good travel sites and companies are
available in the pre-departure guide!• NO skipping class to catch a flight or
train!• You’ll need your passport; your
license isn’t valid• You must complete the CEA travel
survey every week, even if you’re staying in Paris • Always travel with a buddy!• Bring a lock for hostel stays • 1 carry on per person (strict!) • This includes purses • Do not transport illegal substances
or paraphernalia between countries• Ex: if you visit Amsterdam…
