Lackland ISD Earns State’s Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating Lackland Independent School District officials announced that the district received a rating of “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability rating system for fiscal year 20082009. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Lackland ISD’s financial management and reporting system. This is the seventh year of Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76 th Texas Legislature in 1999. The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system. “We are very pleased with Lackland ISD’s Schools FIRST rating,” said Lackland ISD Superintendent Dr. Burnie Roper, “as it shows that our district is making the most of our state and federal dollars. This rating shows that Lackland’s schools are accountable not only for student learning, but also for achieving these results costeffectively and efficiently.” The Schools FIRST accountability rating system assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “Superior Achievement”, followed by “AboveStandard Achievement”, “Standard Achievement”, and “Substandard Achievement”. Districts with serious data quality problems may receive the additional rating of “Suspended – Data Quality”. Districts that receive the “Substandard Achievement” or “Suspended – Data Quality” ratings under Schools FIRST must file a corrective action plan with the Texas Education Agency. Lackland ISD Earns State’s Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating

Lackland Independent School District officials announced that the district received a rating of “Superior

Achievement” under Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability rating system for fiscal year 2008‐2009.  The

Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Lackland ISD’s financial

management and reporting system. This is the seventh year of Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial

rating,” said Lackland ISD Superintendent Dr. Burnie Roper, “as it shows that our district is making the most of our state and federal dollars.  This rating shows that Lackland’s schools are accountable not only for student learning, but also for achieving these results cost‐effectively and efficiently.”

The Schools FIRST accountability rating system assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “Superior Achievement”, followed by “Above‐Standard Achievement”, “Standard Achievement”, and “Substandard Achievement”.  Districts with serious data

Celebrating Our Heroes

On Wednesday, November 10 at 9:45 the elementary school will be saluting our military

heroes with a special Veterans’ Day program. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue as we recognize military veterans who are faculty members in our district as well

as the parents of our military children. All parents are cordially invited to attend this program and be celebrated for your service to our country.

Lackland Elementary School “Targeted” for a Make Over.

Target and The Mission Continues, an organization that empowers wounded and disabled veterans to make a difference in their community, are teaming up to renovate the

elementary school habitat. Lackland Elementary was one of only eleven schools in the nation to receive this honor. More than fifty Target volunteers and an equal number of

military volunteers will donate their time and effort on November 11 to create a beautiful outdoor classroom for our students to enjoy. We are honored to have been selected and eagerly await our greatly enhanced habitat. Thank you Target and The Mission Continues

volunteers!

What is that Pattern? First graders in Mrs. Allen’s class created patterns with straws and had to

finish their partners’ patterns. All of the students in first grade have been identifying and extending repeating patterns.

Interior Design Field Trip:

Recently, Mrs. Duron’s Interior Design class visited Imagine Homes to learn more about building green. Students saw many features that saved energy and water. The house had solar panels, a tank-less water heater, and blown in insulation. The walls were insulated with recycled newspaper, fixtures had energy efficient light bulbs, windows were “low e”, and there was a control panel for the water. If your parents think you are taking to long of a shower…they can turn off the water with a flip of a switch. Out of all the items, the toilet that had two buttons for flushing was students’ favorite – you can guess what each button

was for. Students also visited Ethan Allen where they learned about furniture styles, custom design, and interior design careers.

St. Phillip’s

8th grade students recently had the opportunity to visit St. Phillip’s College to learn what a community college has to offer. Students toured the campus

and visited the hospitality and science departments. Students also attended a workshop discussing different types of financial aid. These students will be

more prepared to make decisions about their future education.
