www.noumea-p.schools..nsw.edu.au noumea-[email protected] From our Principal On Tuesday of this week, a fabulous artist named Janne painted a beautiful mural of two fairy wrens on our Community cottage. We have been working with Mission Australia to brighten up the old yellow wall on the cottage and make the entry to our school inviting. The guys at Street Art murals were easy to work with and after talking to them about our brief, succeeded in assigning Janne to do the work. He spoke to all of the children throughout the day and explained what he was doing as he completed the painting. Everyone who has seen his painting has commented on how beautiful it is so again, a huge thank you to Janne for an amazing work of art. Next week is Book Week and the children are excitedly getting their costumes together for the parade. Parents and friends are invited to join us for a picnic recess after the parade and visit an art display in the hall. A Forensic Science show will also be held on Wednesday as part of Science Week. Students from Year Three to Year Six are invited be quick to make your payment to attend. Mr Ford also has student Science Projects set up in the Library and parents are invited to view these. Our District athletes will compete next Monday and Tuesday at the District carnival and we wish them all the best. Stage Three camp organisation is also complete and our campers will head off to Bathurst in the coming weeks. A team of electricians are currently working their way through the school removing lights and fittings and replacing them with new energy saving lighting. This should greatly improve our energy usage and bring our lighting up to date. Please avoid using the car park as it is currently congested with workers and the large container blocks visibility, signifi- cantly. Parents are reminded that the car park is only for staff. Children are to exit via the front gate near the crossing. Kind Regards, Mrs Sue Finn Principal A newsletter for the community of Noumea Public School, built on Dharug land. EnviroMentors On Thursday 6 August, several classes (K – 6) attended a recycling workshop presented by EnviroMentors held in our schools library. EnviroMentors is part of Keep NSW Beautiful and works in conjunction with local councils to provide workshops designed to inform local communities on how best to protect their local environment. Our workshop focussed on recycling organic waste through the use of worm farms. It was a fascinating presentation with plenty of hands-on activities, the highlight of which must have been the identifying and handling of different worm species. We are grateful to the Blacktown City Council for the free workshop and the donation of a worm farm to our school. Mr Brad Ford Science teacher

Book Parade On Thursday 27 August, we will be holding a Book Parade to help celebrate Book Week 2015. This year, the parade will coincide with a Book Week Art Show in the hall and a picnic recess at the end of the parade. The theme of this year’s Book Week is “Books Light up Our World”. All students K-6 are invited to come to school dressed in either light themed costumes or as their favourite character from a book. A parade will be held under the school COLA at 10:30 am so that students have an opportunity to share their costumes. Parents are also invited to come and watch the parade (fancy dress is optional), followed by a picnic recess with their children in the playground. We are looking forward to seeing all princesses, pirates, Harry Potters, monsters and friends on the day. For further details please contact Ms Dunn or

Mrs McNally
