Our first week of Canteen went off with a bang. We are looking forward to a fantastic 2020. Jess has cooked up a storm and the fridges are stocked. All we need now is to fill our volunteer spots for the term. I know this is a big ask as we are all busy with work and family commitments and we value any time you can give us over the coming term. To help the Canteen Committee with the management of the volunteers and Jess' workload in 2020 we are implementing a new policy. All volunteer positions will need to be filled the week prior before we open the canteen for business the following week. This will eliminate the last-minute call outs for volunteers and the extra pressure on those in the kitchen when we don't have full numbers. We also realise plans change or kids get sick and you cannot do a shift. There is still the flexibility to move your day. It is our plan to spend less time on administration and more effort on new menu items and improved service. Did you know if we had one volunteer hour given per child at school that would fill our annual calendar? Shifts are flexible and Jess is there to guide you. Please register today as we have vacancies over the coming weeks and we want to ensure this service stays open. The link to register is listed below. Once again thank you for supporting the school canteen. This is a service that is loved by both the students and parents. Could you be an Ethics Teacher? We have been very lucky to be able to run the Pri-mary Ethics program at our school for the last few years as it is taught and coordinated by volunteers. However, we are likely to need some additional teachers this year to meet demand. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer. Ethics classes are run on Wednesdays from 2:25-2:55 for K-2 and 2:55 -3:25 for Y3-6. Ethics classes can be taught by parents, carers, grandparents or other family or members of the community - experience is not required and training is provided. If you would like to consider volunteer-ing for Ethics or know someone who may be inter-ested, please contact our ethics coordinator Ainslie Frazer on 0406 804 594 or [email protected] or visit www.primaryethics.com.au.

Did you know you can order super farm fresh free-range eggs laid the same week you receive them via the School Canteen for only $6 a carton. Order online at www.quickcliq.com.au in the uniform shop. Orders are cut off at 8.30 pm each Tuesday night and ready for collection from the Canteen on Thursday afternoons from 3 pm or Friday during opening hours. If you have a child at OOSH on Thursday you can arrange for your eggs to be sent there. Get online now for Newcastle’s freshest eggs.
