The vast majority of the volunteer network betongs tothe grassroots of our association, the ctubs. Each clubsexecutive and committee can take pride in knowingthey have made valuabte contributions to our sport. Most importantty I acknowtedge the efforts of our manyvolunteer coaches, managers, scorers and generaI teamassistantswho ensure Saturday mornings for our ptayersare always speciaI occasions.

It is with great pride that I can say one of our volunteers,Michaet Ryan, was acknowtedged by Cricket NSW forhis tiretess efforts with junior cricket, and his promotionof Girts Cricket in particulat by being awarded the titteof Votunteer of the Year, Congratutations Michael, wettdeserved.

Representative Cricket was an outstanding success forour association this season. Even though we did not snagone of the age group tittes, our consistent high standardacross a[[ age groups resulted in Suthertand winningthe Shett Shietd, the club championship of NSWDCArep cricket. Our Presidents inter-district rep teams alsocompeted successfulty with our Ul2 team making thefinat of their dMsion. To atl players, coaches, managers, votunteers and administrators, wet[ done.

The success of ourjunior rep teams was matched by thesuccessful season of our local grade ctub, Sutherland, who were the Sydney limited over champions, 4th grade

premiers and runners-up in lst grade, 2nd gt,rtlr' ,r''lthe club championship. These teams featured a nunrlx rof former SSJCA juniors and we congratulate tlrltrr ,,r,their continued successes. A reaI highlight of thc sc,r'r 'r,was the selection of former lttawong junior and S:' ll ireoresentative Steven Smith in the Austratian T20 k,,rr"and test touring quad to New Zealand. We look f orw,rr,tto seeing Steven wearing the baggy green in thc rrr',1future. I would atso tike to thank the grade ctub for llrlrrcontinued support with the coaching program and llr,'successful Ul4 gala day that was hetd this year.

I woutd tike to thank Cricket NSW, in particutarty Ru'.'., tGrimson, and the NSWDCA for their support and arjvr, during the pastyear. Russetwas an attendee at a nurrrl,, 'of our meetings during the season and his assist, rrr,,with the Levet I coaching courses in particutar are gr r', rt t;appreciated.

Congratutations to atl premiership winning t€ams ,rrrrlindividuaI honours winners. Also to Engadine Dragorr', lrtheir success in the Club Championship, congratulat ror r'.And finatty to every player in every team thr0ughoul 'rrrcompetition, congratulations on making the past sc;r',,'r,a great one for the Suthertand Shire Junior Crrrh,tAssociation.

Congratutationsto the 2009/0 Ctub Champions EngadineDragons Cricket Ctub and to Jamie Brown from ltlawongMenai, who is the 2009fl0 SSJCA Cricketer of the Year.Congratutations atso to all Premiership winning teamsand trophywinners.

This year has been a time for reflection. lt is onty whenyou review what happens elsewhere can you understandhwv you can achieve more locatty, Meeting with otherassociations, I can appreciate what we have in the Shire. From our competition structure and competitive natureof the top grades to the famity friendty torrver grades, ourchitdren have the opportunity to ptay cricket at a levelappropriate to their skiLts.

Our relationship with our locaI council is one of the bestand their support cannot be underestimated. 0ur councitcontinues to work ctosety with us to ensure we have thefieLds avaitabte for our ever growing ranks of cricketers.

But the factor that makes Suthertand such a great pl.aceto enjoyjunior cricket, is our network of volunteers whocoach, manage, administer and cetebrate our ptayers'successes. Without this network, junior cricket could nottake place on the weekend. From the parent who setsup the cones on a frosty morning through to the coachwho has no kids playing anymore but turns up each weekfor the love of the sport and to see their ptayers develop.

we need to encourage this participation. We are not likeother sports where many games are played concurrenttyat one'ovat; we require support from parents to ensurethe games can take ptace. So continue to help out whereyou can, the SSJCA appreciates your efforts and so doesyour chitdren.

Thanks must go to the Secretaries and Presidents of aLlctubs for being the conduit between the SSJCA and thepEyers.

2010Season 2009fl 0 sawa continued focus onthe devetopmentof club coaches through a number of initiatMes andprograms. Thefuture and skength of the SSJCA competitions reliesprimarity on the degree of votunteer participation atteamlevel and enhancing their skitts remains a priority.

The Coaching Mentor Program was implementedagain this season. The program offered Clubs accessto Suthertand District Grade Club coaches for taitoredsessions designed primarity to assist Club coacheswith training and player devetopment skitls. Thisseason the focus was on providing a session for eachCtub (as opposed to on a per team basis), hoping thiswould enabte a broader spread across the coachingranks. Clubs, and their coaches and ptayers, coutd takeadvantage of the more advanced training techniquespassed on by the SDCC coaches. Thanks must be givento SDCC for agreeing to appty resources and funding forthis program. lt is an outstanding opportunity for Ctubsand evidences the good relationship between the SSJCAand SDCC.

The SSJCA, in conjunction with CNSW, again promoteda series of Level I Coaching Courses at the start of theseason. These were wetl attended and showed thecommitment and enthusiasm new coaches bring to theirCtubs. We hare already commenced discussions withCNSW to expand the number of courses and timing tomeet demand.

The SSJCA was invited to participate in a CNSW CoachingAccreditation Pitot Project during the season, workingtowards all SSJCA coaches compteting at least the newon-line Introduction to Cricket Course (which reptacesthe otd Level 0 accreditation). lt is CAs stated goalthat att cricket coaches should hotd this accreditationat a minimum. The SSJCA achieved ouite favourabteoutcomes and our appreciation goes to atl coacheswho evidence our established accreditation culture,as well as to those individuaLty who assisted with thisProject. The SSJCA remains committed to increasing theaccreditation rates of atl coaches. both at this base levet

AOUINAS COMETS CRICKET CLUB

Aquinas Comets entered the 2009/10 season with l0juniorteams under its own banner, and a combined Aquinas /Sytvania'side in the l6Ds.

It wouLd be a very hard to better our on{ield results ofthe last coupte of season where we had 8 finatists and 4premiers. This season we had one side, our l6Cs, reachthe finals. Congratutations go to Craig Hunt and his l6Cside who were premiers this year. For many of them, thisrepresents a

'three-peat of consecutive premierships as

they were a part of our successfut l4Es from 2007/08 andl4Cs f rom last year. An outstanding achievement.

However, the most pteasing resutt came in the attitudeand oerformances of our teams across the board. Someof our sides had chattenges in the competitions theywere graded, but everyone took to the fietd with theright frame of mind and in most cases results across theseason were above expectations. I appreciate our team, their coaches and a[[ our famities for how they ensuredthe season was a success for the players irrespective ofthe oosition on the table.

Another pteasing aspect was having 3 players selected inSSJCA representative teams. Liam Bell in the Under 12Presidents Cup side, and NichotasAmos and Bradtey Huntin the Under l0 Devetopment Squad. Congratulations tothese ptayers on their selections.

We woutd Like to pass on a particular note of thanks toMurray and Car[ and their colteagues from the SylvaniaHeights Cricket Ctub. At the start of the season we wereshort ptayers in the Under l6s and unabte to fietd two ful.[teams. With asking ptayers to stand down from cricketuntenabte, we were most fortunate to find like mindsand we were uttimatety able to agree with the Sytvaniactub on fietding a combined Aquinas/Sytvania' side in theUnder l6Ds. Our sincere thanks go to Murray, Car[ andSytvania, 0n all measures the season was a success -and critically, every Aquinas and Sylvania registeredptayer was provided with a game of cricket.

We atso congratulate Peter Shepherd as a new LifeMember of our Ctub. Peter has been a oart ofthe fabric

of this Ctub for many years - as a coach, coordrr,rr I

our In2Cricket program, Coaching Coordinator rrrllas a Vice President. Att of Peters contributionr, ,rr, ' ,numerous to fit into this report, but suffice to r,,ry Iwe[[ deserved of the acknowledgement.

Great appreciation needs to be noted in retatirrrr t' ' 'fantastic Committee. 0ur Ctub has benefrtlrl t 'the tiretess efforts of a dedicated group of pc{)l)[ ,,,'continuaty and unsetfishty work extremely harrlare very committed to improving the opportunrlrr" ' tenvironment afforded our ptayers, and their f,rrrr, 'both on and off thefietd. Our new Committee has some new faces wlrr, tbodes well for the continuing off-fietd administratrorr , tour Ctub and a focus on improving what we do and wlr, rtwe can provide our players and their families.

We congratulate the ptayers, coaches, managers ,r ,tsupporters of atl our teams for an outstanding scir,,r,r,and for representing themsetves, the Club and the Sli tt ;,with pride and for ptaying in a spirit which reftects w,0n our game.

CARINGBAH SPORTS CRICKET CLUB

Another fantastic season of cricket for our ctub! 0nceagain, we fielded 24 teams making us the biggest cl.ub inthe SSJCA. Extremety pleasing was the fact that we hadfour Under 8 and seven Under l0 teams. The ctub had 8teams make the Final.s with the l4Bl, l4D, 12D, l0A andl0D(l)s winning Premierships. A tremendous effort!

Congratutations to Engadine Dragons Cricket Ctub ontaking out the Ctub Championship and to a[[ those otherteams who were successful in their comoetitions.

As in anyorganisation, it isthe dedication and commitmentof those involved which makes our ctub successfut. We are very fortunate to have coaches, managers, scorers and team helpers who keep the ctub going. Ourcommittee have once again put in an incredible amount

C()MO JANNALIJUNIOR CRICKET CLUB

Its hard to believe that the 2009fi0 cricket season - our20th season as a combined junior cl.ub - has come to actose.

Success in sportand in cricket can occuron many levets -and I certainty regard the 2009/10 as very successfu[ onefor the cLub. We finished 4th in the Ctub Championshipswhich is a fabutous result given our relativety smatl size. This is a credit to att ptayers and coaches - and a resultwe shoutd cottectMety be very proud of.

In my mind though, the hightight of the season has to bethe 168 premiership victory. White we strive to win grand-finals and coltect the accotades, this win stands out forme as it reftected the combined efforts of a group ofboys, some of whom had played togetherfor 8 years. Thisteam had struggted at times in A grade - but persisted.Ihe result - a grand fina[ victory in the final year ofjuniorcricket for some of these ptayers! Earty in the season, the Committee began to discuss what defined the Como-Jannati Junior Cricket Ctub and how we woutd definesuccess. To me, having a group of boys playtheirjuniorcricket together, endure the inevitabte highs and Lows, and win a premiership at the end of this time is exactty

of time and energy to make sure our ctub runs smoothl\l.Thank you to atl. those invotved.

Caringbah Sports would also tike to recognise thegreat efforts of the SSJCA President, Martin Co[e,and his committee in organizing cricket for us att. Ourclub appreciates this commitment especiatty that ofCompetition Manager, Tom Croucher, for ensuring ourcompetition ran smoothty once again.

We look forward to the start of another enjoyabte seasonof cricket.

what we should strive for as a ctub. Congratulationsto the ptayers and to Peter Brown and Peter Hazeldineon the achievement and the lastinq memories this witlbring.

There was atso ptenty of individuat achievement thisyear. As a club we saw I century congratutations to JoshMclaren (168s) and 24 hatf centuries. The staggeringpart of this is that Luke Manos (l6D s) scored 6 of thesewhile Dan Fattins (14 As) notched up 3. There were atsoptenty of highs for our bowters, with 5 wicket hautsnotched up by 3 of our bowters (Matthew Burgess(16Ds), Tom Daenett (168s) and Connor Brown (168s).We also saw 4 wicket hauLs on 12 occasions. The Ctubswicketkeeping record was smashed by Anthony Sawdy(l6B s). Anthony took 22 catches. Another milestone thisyear was Harry Chapman passing 1000 runs for the club.Wet[ done to a[[.

A number of ptayers atso went on to represent theSSJCA in the various representative competitions and Icongratulate them a[[ on this terrific achievement, AngusFattins, Ben Wittiams, Blake Woodward, Daniet Entwistl.e.Daniet Fattins, Devtin Malone, Gavin Ho, Harry Chapman,

Congratutations also goes to the fol.Lowing ptayers whohave been nominated by the SSJCA folJ.owing theirperformances at representative leveI to trial for the NSWEmerging Blues in the upcoming trials' Devlin Malone(12As), Justin Hess (l4As), Tom Doyte (l4As) and DanFattins (14 As).

From the Ctub's perspective we have a new Committee -and severaI important focus areas.

First and foremost is identifying what we stand foras a club, and how we reflect this in our approach tocricket - be it through how we play. how we coach andprepare or how we provide support. I believe we canstand out as a ctub that kids of att abitities want to playfor, that devetops our ptayers to the best of their and ourabil.ities, and makes the cricket experience a positive andenjoyabte one for all. Amongst other things, this means

DLS SEAGULLS CRICKET CLUB

Buitding on last seasons successes we fie[ded ten teams- the most ever by this ctub since we amalgamated in2002. We had nine teams in competition grades and anUnder 8 team.

Al.t reports back to me and the committee indicate that, for the most part, the players have had an enjoyabteseason and that the skitl.s of the ptayers increased as theseason progressed.

Wlth the exception of the 168s who struggled att yearagainst far superior opposition, atl the other teams werevery competitive in their grades with the l0Bs and l4Esbeing undefeated during the season. Three premierships(108, 14C and l4E) and the l2Cs going down narrowty inthe final was an excellent result for the ctub.

Thanks to Grant Arnold, Steve Croft and John McCarthyfor their great work in ensuring that the teams got onthe park again this season. 0nce again they have run

l()A - ELLIOT BROOKES

The 2009/10 season saw the best come out of Eltiot. Havingpl.ayed in the l0A s for the past 3 seasons E[liot took the roleof senior player very seriously and went about setting anexample for the other players to aspire. He is a very tatentedyoung cricketerwith a bright future in representative teams.Etliot's performances over the 09/]0 season see him as thedeserving reclpient of the Best Performed Ul0 cricketer

Ettiots batting was his strength, scoring 332 runs at anaverage 33.2. As a baisman coming in at number 3 or 4 heshowed great poise when controtting the bowting attack. Ina very young team, with half the players first year Ul0's,ELLiot scored a third of atl runs, with his hightights being 103in the first round and 60 not out in the tast. Ettiots 103 is onlythe 4th century for an Ul[) ptayer under the cunent playingformat. lt was a pteasure not to just watch Etliot scoreruns but to see how he worked the strike, accumutatedpartnerships and encouraged his teammates.

As a bowter Ettiot was used as first change and consistentlybowted at the too order batters. His 8 wickets came off 66overs with an economy rate of less than 3 runs per over.

Ettiot stood out amongst a number of very good cricketersin the Ul() competition, which was shown in his selection aspart of the Ul[) development squad from a record number ofapplicants. El.Liot has a rare taLent, which witt onty see himmature and improve over the coming seasons.

From everyone at St Patrick's Sutherl.and Cricket Ctubcongratulations on receiving this wett deserved andprestigious award.

flound 3lf w against Parramatta at Suthertand fual

Itx'wcather had not been favourable leading up to thegrrrrr, with showers the day before and overnight. Wer'xvv that this game was possibty the most importantrrx, uut of the five games and a win was necessary toget lhrough to the semi's. Again the toss wasn't in ourl, mxrr trut we were determined to come out fighting.Itx, lrtch was Less than ideal. with the need to removehrxl, r;hunks of ftoating turf from around the batsmansrcet ll was great t0 see that our boys had come to ptayt,xLry with the bowlers ripping through Panamatta's top, rrlr,r ,rnd having them 5 wickets down for onty 37 runs.\.rrr provided the earty breakthrough with the hetp of arrrrxly t:atch from Scott to send the opener back for anr.rrly rust. Scott atso contributed with a clean bowledottr Alcxander getting an LBW and bowting Panamatta s,".lrr ',trike batsman for onty l. With a comfortable catcht,, Nrrlcl at point Ben was abte to extinguish a possibty,px;r,ruus innings that was buitding from the Parramattaqr.rrtr The man 0f the match was [eft for Bryce whorr, mrk'rl frustration to the opposition with a wett pitched

battthat created opportunities for catchestoAdam, Ryan,Jordan D and an LBW which produced great figures of4/18. The rain had been a pest a[[ morning with the coversbeing put on numerous times during the 43 overs that wehad comoteted. The overs had been reduced but we wereonty abte t0 get out and face I over before the umpirescalted for the covers again. The game was abandonedafter further rain fetl and there was insufficient time leftfor Panamatta to bowl the 30 overs reouired t0 make agame.

Round 4Won against Hornsby Ku-ring-ai at Barker ColtegeHornsby

There was no sign of rain and we won an important tossand decided to bat on a very flat wicket. Ben cementedhimsetf at the crease, and with the support of the othertop order batsmen was able to accumutate a greatinnings of 79. To be 5/160 was great and with overs inhand we woutd surely be abLe to amass a good totalfor the opposition to chase. As usual Ryan was able toput together a quick 34 runs which pushed the totat to155. lt was important t0 use our 60 overs so Jordan Dput together a n0t out innings trying to encourage theremaining batsmen to stay at the crease as long aspossible. The finaL score of 9/l9B gave us somethingthat we coutd definitel.y defend. Ryan struck earty andput the opposition into a spin with them Loosing 3 eartywickets for onty 8 runs. Ryan put together great figuresof 4/28 to cap off a good performance for the match. Thefirst change bowlers of Nick P and Scott broke 2 critica[innings that were on the rise and Nick P also capturedanother to get 2/17 for the innings. Ben also contributedto the removal of the opposition's tait with the taking ofa wicket. Jordan D had a great day behind the stumps totake 4 catches a[[ up but it didn't come without some painas Adam was given the ba[[ and was able to get 2 wicketsas a result of bowl.ing with ptenty of venom, s0 much s0that a stray batl made it through Jordan s gloves to leavea btoodied reminder of what the pitch was capable ofproviding. We were abte to come away from this gamewith ptenty of confidence for our last encounter againstCanterbury Wests.

Like atl years there are atways challenges to overcomeand this year was no different. Our major chattenge wasthe weather and this ptayed a huge part in the successof the season.

Unfortunately we drew 2 games after being washed outwith rain stopping ptay before our boys could show theretrue abitity. We were tucky enough this year to pLay athome on three occasions with 0ur trip to Richmond beingour furthest trio from the Shire.

Round IDrew against Newcastte at GM()

This was our first rain affected game. Unfortunatety ourcaptain Jordan didn't get the toss he wanted and we wereforced to bowl on what seemed a bit of a dead pitch. 0urbowters were stitt abte to appty good pressure t0 theopposition's batsmen with Ryan forcing their openingbatsman to make an early error resulting in a caught andbowted for hisfirst in thisyears campaign. Atexfottowednot long after to dismiss the Newcastte number three

by knocking his stumps over. Scott, the two Nicks andJordan Witson kept the tid on the opposition's run ratewith good bowting. lt wasn't long untiI the rain startedcoming down but not before Harry was abte t0 capturea wicket with the hetp of a catch going to Ryans hands. It was 0n with the covers and out with the supersopperand after onty 31 overs we would not take the fietd againand with further big down pours 0f rain the umpires hadno choice but to catt it a daywith not enough time on thectock to have a reduced over game.

Round 2Win against Hawkesbury at Hawkesbury

It was a nice day out in the west and we found oursetveswith the pads on after the coin fetl in our favour. The pitchwas pretty ftat and our opponents didn't get much outof it with the batt staying low on occasions. The boystooked Like they were in a good mood to get some runs0n a ground that had tush thick grass in some outfieldareas. Adam and Ben took it to Hawkesbury fromba[[ one but unfortunately Adam was run out after a

Round 5Lost against CanterburyWest at GM()

Unfortunately Jordan D's tuck with the toss wasn'timproving and Canterbury West jumped at the chance tobat f irst. 0ur bowters weren't quite hitting the mark and ittook some great attack in the fietd to get our first wicketby a quatity direct hit run out from Bryce. With a changeto the bovttting attack to Adam we were abte to force anerror for a catch to be taken by Harry. Ihe opening batterwasstittturning overthescoreand beforewe knewittheywere over 120 on the scoreboard untit Nick P provideda gem of a ba[[ to knock the stumps over. Harry with Iwicket, Ben and Adam with 2 each atl put in to capturethe middte order of Canterbury West with the assistanceJordon D behind the stumps. At the end of the 60 overswe were onty abte to capture 7 wickets and they hadwound the score up to 203. We were capabte of gettingthe runs as [ong as we didn't panic. A lot of our top ordergot good starts but we had lost one additionaI wicket forthe same amount of runs. lt was good to see everybodycontributing runs from Ben 36, 8ryce 37, Harry 41, and

Jordan D 34. We were now in a good position but it wasgoing to be a real nail biter. Coul.d the tail wag enough toget us over the tine? Niget got a good start to his inningsbefore getting run out. Nick S, Scott and Jordan W coutdonly advance the score to 186 so it was up to Nick P andAlexander to bring us over the Line. Unfortunatety with l0balts remaining and 3 runs to get we lost our tast wicket.Ihere woutd be no chance to advance to the semi's as wehad nour dropped to third place in our group.

Sincere thanks to Mike Witson who did a fantastic job asManager for the team and thank you to atl parents fortheir support for the boys. Thank you to altthe famities forthe great afternoon teas with Suthertand always settinga very high standard that other associations raved about.Finatty as this is the finaI year of the boys'junior cricket Iwoutd like to take this opportunityto wish the boys al.tthebest in the future in their cricketino careers.

lhe 2009/2010 Webtin Shietd Season was futl ofhrghtights, promise and Laughs. The side welcomed newCayer Gavin Ho in to the side as wetl as the return of BenI otton and Jake Purser. Ryan AgarUnfortunatety had timited opportunity during the seasonand was not abte to property represent his abitity. Asone of three spinners selected in the side, overs wereatways going to be an issue. His continued motivationand enthusiasm is a testament to his personality andteam approach. His fietding was impressive and the teamatways had confidence in him to easity perform his role inthe side. With continued application, his spin bowting andvariation wit[ show great potentiaI for the future.

Jarryd BivianoPl.ayed a very different rote this season compared toprevious ones. His role as the opening batsman forthe side was unsetfish and his statistics do not fairtyrepresent his performances. His innings' consisted ofgutsing it out earty against some good bowting attacks, enabting the middte order to successfutty pite on theruns. His keeping this year was once again impressive, with his best returns coming against eventual grand-finatists Parramatta inctuding 4 catches.

Jamie BrownEnjoyed his first season as captain of the side. He was ajoy to work as his bowting changes and field ptacementswere skategic and effective throughout the season. 0n apersonaI note. his season was atso successfut inctudingtwo hatf centuries inctuding a top score of 60 againsteventuat semi-finatists. Bankstown as wet[ as a totaI of 5wickets with best figures of 2/13 in the finat round. He isa very talented cricketer and I am sure he wiLt be one towatch for the future.

Brendan Druryls an inteltigent cricketer who is a genuine swing bowterHis bowting was at its best when he kept the batt pitchedup attowing for wving, his lines frustrated the batsmanwith his best figures of 2/16 coming in the finat roundagainst Parramatta. Aswetl as his cricket abitity, his inputin to the side was extremety important and impressive. These qualities definitety portray a captain of the future.

Jonathan HaslamPl.ayed without tuck for a tot of the season. As a top orderbatsman ptaying in onty 5 games, some tough decisionsand good fietding can tead to a tough patch. In sayingthat, he had two not out scores with his best performancecoming against eventuaI semi-finalists Bankstownof 28*. His apptication and motivation throughout theseason was unfauttabte as he was constantty eager tolearn and improve. He has a lot of potentiat and I am surebwvling attacks in the future wit[ be made to pay.

Gavin HoExperienced his first season in the representative shietdside. His effective Off Spin bowl.ing and late innings powerhitting featured when he was given the opportunity. Hisbowting performance against Canterbury & WesternSuburbs of 2/25 encompassed impressive pressure offspin bowting. Gavins bowting was most dangerous andeffective when he showed confidence in tossing the baLtup and giving it a rip. Experience and overs wi[[ altow hisabitity to prosper.

Sag KarWas a pteasure to coach. His humour throughout theseason complemented his impressive spetls of fastbowling. He was at the peak of powers when he kept thebowt pitched, atlowing his pace and movement to troubtemost batsmen. His best returns came in the first roundwhere he took 2/19 against ACT in a game where he atsomade a qual.ity direct hit run out from gutty. His late orderbatting shoutd also be mentioned where he made someimportant runs at a quick rate, inctuding a top score of 3lagainst Bankstown.

Ben LettonHad an unbetievabte season. Ben was awarded withboth the Webtin Shietd Ptayer of the Year as we[[ asthe Webtin Batting award. Through the duration of the5 games he amassed 301 runs at an average of 100.33including an incredibte innings of l5l* against Canterbury& Western Suburbs in which no other Suthertand ptayersurpassed. Congratulations Ben on such a great season,it was a testament to your concentration, apptication andtemperament throughout the season.

flryden Mclean)lr.l ,ll imDressive season. His contributions with bothttr l).rt and batl this year were very worthwhile. Heorryrycd his role as an opening batsman this year as wetll .r lop order bowler showing great abitity throughoutllr \cason. His performance against eventual semi-lrr.rhsts Bankstown, especiatty impressed as his [ine andlouth bowting was rewarded with f igures of 3/42 and histrn4h batting with 62.

fl|o PurserlY,r., wctcomed back in to this side this year and made thenur,l o[ every opportunity he was given. He bowted withgn.rt rntent and represented a genuine swing bowler. Hlsdrlrty and effort was rewarded with a competition high l2nr kcts inctuding a brittiant spett of 5/14 against eventualg, rrrd finalists, Panamatta. He troubLed top orderlul.'rnan throughout the competition and has a wealth ofgxrlr, ntrat. Wetldone Jake, on an impressive season.

)[yden Smithh .ln observant and tatented cricketer His teg-spin

bowting especiaLty impressed the side throughout theseason. Hayden's best figures came against ACT with 3important wickets taken for only 19 runs. Every time hecame on to bow[, there was a feeting that something wasgoing to happen which is a sign of an exciting bowler. Hismiddle order batting was atso very important to the side, with his best score of 3l against eventual grand{inatistsPanamatta.

Jordan Trajcevskils a talented cricketer whose resutts this season didn'treflect his abitity. As a top order batsman in a teamcompetitive for places in the order, it was always goingto be tough t0 get a constant position. When given theopportunity, Jordan showed gtimpses of his potential.,evidence that he is wett and truty capabte at this leveL.Continued application in,his game and batting witt attowhim to reap the rewards of his ability.

They obviousty had not had a team take it up to themLike these boys did. The setf betief was fantastic butunfortunately a few tight decisions (third umpire, ptease l)and some poor decisions by us cost us the game and wefe[[ 13 runs short.

The Lads can be very proud of their achievements thisseason and once again shoutd be congratutated on theway they handted themselves on and off the fietd. Theway they handled the unsportsmantike behaviour in thesemi final made me and the parents very proud and goesto show you can compete we[[ without resorting to thattype of behaviour.

Thanks again to the parents who drove the lads to attparts of Sydney as wetl as providing afternoon teas thatmade up for the [ack of quatity amenities at our homeground. Third time tucky in 2010?r

lf the 2008 series was about fantastic batting, then 2009was about bowting and fietding. These guys set thestandard for the rest of the competition in the fiel.d andcombined with excetlent bowting saw the team quaLifyfor the semi finats for the second year in a row.

0nce again the lads got themsetves into a winningposition and with 5 overs left in the semi it looked like wewould be ptaying in a finat. Unfortunatety tosing wicketsa tittte too regutarty in the finat overs cost us; but moreabout that later.

Pat DriscoLl and Corbo Corbett joined the team thisseason and both contributed wetl at different stages.Pat's Left arm mediums were accurate and Corbo did agreatjob with ba|'[ in hand atso. His catch at Heathcote inthe rain was a btinding effort, running 20 odd metres totake a diving screamer at square [eg.

Trent Smith ptayed again this season and contributedwhenever calted upon. His bowting was a key for us inmany games and white he didn't rip through sides the

pressure he built was fantastic - especiatty for the guysbowting at the other end.

AtL of the games were keenty contested. A no-resultagainst Hornsby Kuringai & Hi[[swas a shame because at8-l0l after their shortened innings we were looking goodthings but just as we were about to start our innings. therains came again and we headed home.

Travetting to St lves against North Shore, we starteddreadfutty to be 5 - 30 odd, scrambling to 94 thanks to afighting innings from Harry at the top of the order.

Ethan and Ben smashed their top order as they cotlapsedto 5 - 30 odd. Constant pressure in the fietd kept us inthe game, atong with great bowting from Trent. At 9 - 90we created the chance to win the game but grassed itinstead.

It was one of the most exciting games and by the endboth sides supporters were lining the boundary to be asclose to the action as oossibte. Ben and Ethan formed

Once again, we have been fortunate to have a great group

The whole season was the consummate team effortwith each and every one of the boys contributing in eachgame.

Several boys have been rewarded by making theEmerging Blues Squads for 2010. Justin Hess, Iom Doyle,Atex Gersbach, Jonothan Rose and Dane Fisher are to becongratutated on their efforts.

The Creak Shiel.d team of 2009/10 comprised 2 returningplayers from last year s team and l0 graduates from ourUl0 Devetopment Squad. During the course of the repseason they devetoped from a team of inexperiencedrookies to a side capabte of beating any other in thecompetition. We eventua[[y bowed out of the competitionin an extremely ctose semi{inal loss to Bankstown, theeventual premiers of the comp. After some promisingpretiminary training sessions and a comfortable win inour trial game, our first comp fixture against Inner WestHarbour was an anti-climatic wash-out after a promisinginitial session with the bal.L that saw us claim 3 eartywickets . ALready it was becoming obvious that we had anextremety strong bowting side.

Game 2 against Camden was a disappointing lossby a mere 7 runs - a game that saw our inexperienceshow, particularty our batting and fietding. against Newcastte. Ihis would be the turning point of ourseason. With a[[ players and famities travetting up northand staying at the same hotet the day before the game itprovided the boys a great opportunity to bond even closeras a team. Who'tl ever forget the "Royat Rumble" in thehotel swimming poo[ on Saturday afternoon! Again, our bowling wasfirst class as we dismissed Newcastle for 5l with aLLbowlers chipping in. The boys were feeting confident aswe sent Newcastte in for a second bat. This time roundproved a bit tougher, but a great team spirit and attitudesaw us ctaim the necessary wickets to again bowl ouropponents out and claim a rare outright win and have usback in semiJinaI contention.

0ur last regular round fixture was against Btacktown whowere on top of our division. A win would see us teap frogthem and progress to the semis. Batting first we posteda competitive totat of 152 after another solid effort fromour top order. ()ur bowlers battled through the heat of the

Watson and opening bowters Feticia Fernando and AnnaHorton.

The first game was particularly exciting with St GeorgeSuthertand hotding their nerve against Penrith whoneeded ll off the last over. The other games were againstNorthern Sydney and Cenkal Coast which are areas withvery strong girts competitions but the team can be proudof the effort put in by everyone and the spirit in which thematches were played.

The team finished 3rd in their poot and were stitl a chanceto finish in the top 2 and progress to the final round butother matches didn't go the way we needed them to.

Firstty may I thank the SSJCA for the opportunity to coachthis side, a team of mature young men who approachedtheir cricket in an enthusiastic and positive manner.

0ur resutts were mixed but even in the face of adversitytheir team spirit and competitive nature atways shonethrough. Al.though there were some "veteran" rep ptayersamong the team there were atso 4 players making theirrepresentative debut, leading to a very mixed [eve[ ofcricketin g experience.

We won 2 games, lost 3 and had a bye, with the last gamebeing washed out. Ihe two wins, against Newcastle andNorth Shore, were comprehensive and in two of the threelossesjust an ounce of luck ourwaywould have changedthe result.

The Captain and Vice-Captains (Liam, Chris and Aden)were given the responsibil.ity to control things out in themiddte and performed admirabty in this respect.

Ihey were atways looking to invotve a[[ members of

the team where they betieved they couLd add vatue andthis attitude of inclusion had a big effect on the teambonding.

One way to gauge this is to Look at the impact of the fournewcomers to rep. cricket.

Bowen Mitchett opened the batting and, al.though hishighest score was 23, we were usuatty off to sotid startswhen batting.

Cameron Lane, batting at number 3, achieved the highestaggregate for the team with l4B runs and the top scoreof the season (89).

Beau Woodgate contributed with bat and batt during theseason and Liam Strachan became our second highestwicket taker (7) which inctuded a spetl of 5 for 17 againstNewcastte.

We also had 2 players who are etigible for rep cricketagain next year and should be pushing for Shield

Round 6waswashed out.

During the series, we used tlvo wicketkeepers, BrendanRoya[L and Joe[ Beattie. Both these boys kept extremetywe[[ in every game.

Fina Lty, I'd tike to thank aLt the boys for their efforts duringthe series. You were a great group of boys to coach, a realcredit to your parents. A big thank you to our Manager,Janet Hickman, for your organisation of the team andyour tireless efforts in scoring, and to atl the parents fory0ur support especiatty with umpiring and the nutritionalafternoon teas. lt was a real pleasure to be associatedwith you alt.

Paul BurgCoach

The team was a mixture of boys who had previoustyptayed representative cricket and those who were newto the scene. lt was a great experience for these newptayers as they realised that the intensity was certaintydifferent to club cricket.

Ihe side was capabty ted by Ross Hickman with hetp fromVice-Captain, Adam Burg. We were competitive in everygame, winning two out of our five games with Round 6being washed out. The pleasing aspect of our play wasthat the boys never gave up, most evident in our gameagainst Newcastle where we won on the [ast batt.

Round 1 was a home game against Central Coast whereRoss won the toss and batted. Mitchett Setwood 44,Campbetl..Jackson 25 and Brendan Royatt 23 were thestand out batsmen and we were 7 Ior 136 off our 50overs. lt was atways going to be hard to restrict thembut Campbett 4132 and Mitchett 2/18 made it tough forthe opposition, however they passed our score 7 wicketsdown in the 44th over. A soecial mention to Aaron Bu[[who bowled his off-spinners superbty in this game.

Our next game was a trip t0 Newcastle where we lostthe toss and bowLed. They made a sotid start untiI thedestroyer, Marcus Beattie, was brought into the attack. In 5 overs. he had taken 3/12. Mitchetl Selwood bowted asuper spetl in this game Vl9 off l0 overs. Ross Hickmanchimed in with 2 wickets and it was Marcus takinganother 2 wickets in his second spett finishing with theexcettent figures of 5/23 off 9 overs. A great performance !Newcastte had reached 9/156 off the 50 overs.

This was going to be a tough chase especiatty after losing3 eartywickets. Fortunatety, Brendan Royatl became therock of the innings ptaying a very mature innings of 65 no.He guided us home hitting the winning run off the last ballof the day. A great performance from him and the wholeteam. Ethan Spratt l5 and Matt Zuber l3 were the ontyother batsmen to hit doubte figures. Travis Jemmison's Bruns at the end of the innings was also vital to our win.

Congratutations Josh.

Cattum WeatherattAnother ptayer who was in his first season of U/12s,

It was an honor and privitege to be coach of the 2009/10Suthertand U/12 Presidents Cup Team. This was asuccessfuI tournament for this team. Not onty did theymake the finat, but just as importantty it was a team ofmates who enjoyed and cetebrated each other success.

There was atways a greatfeeting of comradeship amongstthe ptayers. Each ptayer throughout the tournament didsomething speciat to excite the supporters and remindthemselves why they had been chosen to compete at aRepresentative Ievet.

Ihe team was made uo of'

Lachl.an 0'Brien (captain)What you want from a Captain is someone who leadsfrom the front- that is Lach[an. He caotained this sidewith maturity beyond his

'12 years. He reads the gamewett, is prepared to ask questions and perhaps hisgreatest asset is his witlingness to [isten. His abitity as abatsman is incredibte, capabl.e of with-standing pressureto accumutate runs. His innings of 80 against Central

Liam BettLiams natural alt-round attributes as a cricketer makehim a vatuable asset to any team. Liam's batting isatways retiabte, in control and he never gave his wicketaway cheaply. His left arm inswingers are accurate anddangerous. Not onty was Liam on a hat{rick in thefirst game, he atso took some amazing catches andhis fietding was outstanding. His throwing arm is [ike abuttet! Thanks Liam and wet[ done.

Christian BennettChristian was asked to fitt in for us in Game 3 at shortnotice. Asked to bowt 8 overs in this game, he retunedthe outstanding figures of 2/4. Christian has att theatkibutes of a fine pace bowler; accurary, speed andendurance. Christian inctusion was we[[ received by theptayers. Good luck next season Christian, I'm sure that

Cattum has an exce[[ent batting technique that wittprovide a strong foundation for the future. He was astrong team ptayer batting up and down the order. Hishook and putts shots are most enjoyable to watch.Cattum enjoyed fietding, with some great run outs anda memorable catch against Penrith, which saw theirhard hitting opener out. Caltum never let his team matesdown. Good luck for the next season.

Ryan Wittiams (v-capt)Ryan was an excetlent choice as vice captain. Ryanprovided ptenty of worthwhite advice to both his captainLachtan and his team mates. Ryan is an incredibtytalented cricketer. His batting technique is one of thebest, and he hits the ba[[ as hard as anyone in this agegroup. Chasing runs and under pressure against Horsnby,Ryan showed his tatents in scoring a wetl compited 31.His cameo of 17 against Penrith in very quick time kick-started our run chase and was one of the contributingfactors in winning that game. A good listener, Ryan hasthe platform to continue to play representative cricket.

Matt WrightMatt's tournament was stightty disrupted due to an oversea trip. However, he pl.ayed 4 games and showed in thosematches that he has the right temperament combinedwith sound technique to succeed as a top order batsman. He demonstrated this against a hostite opening attack ingame 4 against North Shore. Matt also has the abiLity tobowt tidy off spin. Matts commitment and enthusiasm

in the fietd was outstanding. Matt was constantty heardencouraging his team mates, which is an exceLlent trait. Iwish Matt att the best in his cricketing career.

FinaLLy I woutd tike to thank a[[ the parents. They werea great support to the team, which certainly contributedto our success. In particular, our Team Manager ThomasGoerges made sure everything was done to perfection, which made coaching that much easier. ThanksThomas.

To Leonie and Munay Griffiths thanks for yourcontribution in organizing the trip away to Newcastte, afternoon teas and scoring. Also to Murray showing ushis new season fashion look at the finaL wearing denimshorts and brown hiking boots! To Mark Drury and JasonSmith thanks for assisting in scoring and umpiring. ToBitt BetL every ready to lend a hand no matter what, thanks Bitt. To Adam Fteming from Sutherland lst Grade, thanks for assisting at training.

Finatty to atl the boys in the team, your commitment totraining, your positive attitude on game day and yourdesire to learn was a credit to you and your parents. | lookforward to fotlowing aL[ your cricketing achievements inthe years ahead.
