We built a large town in a eld at Blenheim

Last Monday morning at 9am there were simply 3 empty fi elds at the top end of Blenheim Palace. The tourists, dog walkers and horse riders were none the wiser that 5 days later, the largest cross secti on Scouti ng event held anywhere in the world during 2017, would be moving in on their doorstop!

A core team of volunteers have worked ti relessly to install miles of water pipes, hundreds of toilets, and multi ple large marquees to support the event. Acti vity zones started to take shape and the main stage was setup, along with the cinemas, and roller disco tent, all built to make your weekend one of the most memorable ever.

At 3pm on Thursday there were 3 mostly empty fi elds, bar the toilets and large white marquees that you can see in the camp square. Come 4pm an army of leaders and adult volunteers arrived to setup thousands of

tents so that every att endee had somewhere to sleep when they arrived last night. Many of these volunteers were parents who may not have had as much experience as the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network, so there was some interesti ng pitching techniques used!

All the hard work came to fruiti ti on at 4pm yesterday as 4,500 Scouts started to descend on Blenheim Palace, much to the bemusement of all the locals and tourists. - especially those using the local roads. With some districts driving the enti re length of the park to get to the campsite there was sure to be some very confused sheep and geese who found themselves new neighbours for the weekend!

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has made this event happen, whether through planning over the last 2 years or setti ng up tents on Thursday.
