Iowa is one win from securing bowl eligibility for the 13th me in the last 14
seasons.
Iowa leads the Big Ten in kicko returns (25.0) and kicko coverage (14.9). The
Hawkeyes kicko coverage ranks second naonally.
Iowa has 10 intercepons, the third most in the Big Ten. Eight dierent players
have recorded an intercepon.
In four of Iowas ve wins, the Hawkeyes recorded an intercepon on its op
ponents nal drive (CB Greg Mabin vs. UNI; FS Anthony Gair at Pi; SS John
Lowdermilk at Purdue; FS Jordan Lomax vs. Indiana).
Iowa has returned an intercepon for a touchdown in each of the last seven
seasons and 12 of the last 14 seasons. CB Desmond King returned an intercep
on for a touchdown (35 yards) against Indiana on Oct. 11.
Seventeen Hawkeyes have caught at least one pass this season (seven backs, six
receivers, four ght ends). The Hawkeyes have had 10 or more players record
at least one catch in four of their ve wins.
Iowa has converted 10 fourth-down aempts, more than any other Big Ten
team. The Hawkeyes have scored two touchdowns on fourth down (one pass
one rush).
Iowa has used 13 rst-me starters -- ve on oense (C Tommy Gaul, FB John
Kenny, WR Jacob Hillyer, FB Macon Plewa, OL Sean Welsh) six on defense (DENate Meier, LB Bo Bower, CB Maurice Fleming, FS Anthony Gair, CB Greg Mabin

rushing yards and 20 career rushing touchdowns. He has 2,217 career rushyards, the 10th most in program history, and 26 career rushing touchdowns,
third most in program history (Shaw, 33; Banks, 33).
WR Kevonte Marn-Manley leads Iowa with 33 recepons. He ranks No. 4 in sch
history with 155 career recepons. He needs 19 catches to break Iowas all-
recepons record (Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, 173). Marn-Manley ranks No
with 1,552 receiving yards.
IOWA/NORTHWESTERN NOTES
Northwestern has six passing touchdowns, ed for the fewest in the Big Ten. Io
has allowed only six passing touchdowns, the second fewest allowed in the
Ten.
Northwestern RB Dan Vitale and Iowa RB Damon Bullock are among the leagtop pass-catching backs. Vitale has 26 recepons, third most among Big Ten r
ning backs, and Bullock has 25 catches, fourth most among Big Ten backs.
Both teams are coming o their second bye weeks of the season. Northwest
defeated Western Illinois, 24-7, following its rst bye week. Iowa defeated India
45-29, following its rst by week.

Fih-year senior C Tommy Gaul made his rst career start Oct. 18 at Maryland
and played every oensive down. Gaul played the majority of Iowas game against
Indiana on Oct. 11, entering the game on Iowas opening drive when RG Jordan
Walsh le due to injury. Starng center Ausn Blythe slid to right guard, and Gau
handled snaps the rest of the game. Gaul, a Des Moines nave, joined Iowa as
a walk-on in 2010. He appeared in one game in 2011, and two games in 2013.
45 JOINS 20-2,000 CLUB
Senior RB Mark Weisman is one of eight players in school history to surpass
2,200 career rushing yards and 21 career rushing touchdowns. The other seven
include Sedrick Shaw, Ladell Bes, Albert Young, Tavian Banks, Owen Gill, Ronnie
Harmon, and Shonn Greene.
In 30 career games, Weisman has 26 rushing touchdowns and 2,217 yards rush
ing. Aer spending the 2010 season at Air Force, Weisman joined the Hawkeyes as
a walk-on and redshirted in 2011. He saw his rst acon as a sophomore in 2012

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has 113 wins as a member of the Big Ten Conferencetying Fielding Yost (MICH) for No. 9 in conference history. He has 66 Big Ten
wins, tying George Perles (MSU) and Murray Warmath (MINN) for ninth most in
conference history. He is one of eight coaches to rank among the top 10 in both
categories. The others include Woody Hayes (OSU), Amos Alonzo Stagg (CHI), Bo
Schembechler (MICH), Hayden Fry (IOWA), Robert Zuppke (ILL), Lloyd Carr (MICH)
and Barry Alvarez (WIS).
Ferentz also has six bowl wins as a member of the Big Ten, tying Fry and Carr
for No. 2 all-me. Only Alvarez has more (8).

Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,
rhymes with parents) is in his 16th season as
head football coach at Iowa and is the dean
of Big Ten Conference football coaches. His
latest contract extension runs through the2020 season.

Year in 2002, 2004 and 2009, joining
Hayden Fry, Bo Schembechler and Joe

line coach, was a Hawkeye leerman from 2003-05. James was a
three-year starter on the Hawkeye oensive line before graduat-

Junior K Marshall Koehn leads the conference and ranks second in the naon in
touchback percentage. He has recorded a touchback on 27 of his 35 kickos (77.
percent). His 27 touchbacks rank second in the Big Ten.
Koehn is perfect on 17 PAT aempts, and has connected on 7-of-10 eld goa
aempts.
Koehn has connected on his last ve eld goal aempts. Connected on a 52-yard eld goal in the third quarter (0:48) at Pi. It was
career long and es for the eighth longest in school history. It was Iowas lon
gest eld goal since All-American Nate Kaeding split the uprights from 55 yard
against Minnesota in 2003.

QB JAKE RUDOCK (JR., 6-3, 208)

Junior QB Jake Rudock has started 19 of Iowas 20 games since the 2013 seaso
opener. He has started Iowas last two games aer sing out the Purdue gamedue to injury. He is 12-7 as a starter, including a 5-2 record on the road, and a 7-4
mark at home (0-1 neutral).
His career totals include 340-of-556 pass aempts for 3,708 yards and 2
touchdowns.
Among Iowas all-me career passing leaders. He has 3,708 career passing yards
the 10th highest total in school history. He threw two touchdown passes agains
Maryland, raising his career total to 27, the ninth most in program history.
Has 4,006 career total oense yards, the 11th most in school history and 2
yards behind Ed Podolak for No. 10.
Was 32-of-56 for 317 yards, two touchdowns, and one intercepon agains
Maryland. The 56 pass aempts are the second most ever for a Kirk Ferent
quarterback. The 300-yard passing game was the second of his career (322 vsBall State, 2014).
Led Iowa to four road wins in 2013, the highest total for an Iowa starng quar

career start in a road game since Jason Manson won at Syracuse in 2006. Beathard
completed 17-of-37 passes for 245 yards and one touchdown. The compleons
aempts and yardage totals are career highs. He also rushed eight mes for 29
yards, both career highs.
Beathard has appeared in four games this year (Ball State, Purdue, Pi, Indiana)
He started the second half at Pi and led Iowa on three straight scoring drives
to start the second half (TD, FG, TD). He was 7-for-8 for 98 yards on Iowas three
scoring drives.
His 62-yard compleon to WR Damond Powell in the third quarter at Pi was
a career long.
Led Iowa on a seven-play, season-long 94-yard touchdown drive to open thesecond half at Pi.

Junior C Ausn Blythe has started 25 consecuve games. Blythe had started
19 consecuve games at center before moving to right guard against Maryland
on Oct. 18 to ll in for Jordan Walsh. C Tommy Gaul started at center against the
Terps. He had started all 19 games at center since the 2013 season opener. He
made nine starts at right guard in 2012. Blythe moved from center to right guard in the rst quarter against Indiana
RG Jordan Walsh was injured on Iowas opening drive. Tommy Gaul entered
the game at center, and Blythe moved to right guard.

Senior RB Damon Bullock ranks third on the team with 25 recepons, the fourth
most by a Big Ten running back this season. He set career highs in recepons (8
and receiving yards (100) at Maryland on Oct. 18.
Caught a then career-high six passes for 32 yards in Iowas win over Ball State
Returned to the lineup against Indiana aer missing Iowas game at Purdue
due to injury.
Has 1,052 career rushing yards on 285 carries. He is the 44th player in program
history to rush for 1,000 career yards. He rushed for 20 yards as a true freshman
in 2011, 513 yards as a sophomore in 2012, and 467 yards as a junior. Iowas
44 career 1,000-yard rushers is the eighth most by any FBS school.
In 2013, he was Iowas third-leading rusher (467 yards), and fourth-leading
receiver (20 recepons).
Rushed for 513 yards in 2012, despite missing six games due to injury.
Has two career 100-yard rushing games (Northern Illinois, 2012; Northwestern2012), one career 100-yard receiving game (Maryland, 2014).

There are 27 Hawkeyes currently acve in the NFL.
At least one Iowa Hawkeye has been selected in every NFL Dra since 1978.
Since 2010, Iowa has had 22 players draed in the NFL. Among Big Ten teams
only Ohio State (23) has more. Iowa has had three rst round picks in the last
ve NFL dras, only Wisconsin (4) has more among league teams.
Iowa had 18 players draed from 2010-12. Six Hawkeyes were draed in eachof those years, including three rst round picks (OL Bryan Bulaga, 2010; DE
Adrian Clayborn, 2011; OL Riley Rei, 2012).
Iowa and Alabama were the only two college football programs to have a rs
round dra selecon following the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Iowa had six players draed in the 2012 NFL Dra, which ed for the most in
the Big Ten and ed for fourth in the country.
In NFL 2011 regular season stascs, former Hawkeye linebackers Chad Gre
enway (Minnesota) and Pat Angerer (Indianapolis) nished third and fourth
respecvely, in tackles.
Former Hawkeyes Marshal Yanda (Balmore OL) and Chad Greenway (Minne
sota LB) were named to the Pro Bowl for the rst me in their respecve NFLcareers in 2012. Greenway was a repeat selecon in 2013.
Three former Hawkeyes were involved in the 2012 Super Bowl. DB Tyler Sash
played for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, while LB Je Tarpinian
was on the injured reserve roster of the New England Patriots. Former Iowa
center Brian Ferentz, now is his second year as Iowas oensive line coach, was
New Englands ght ends coach.
Former Iowa DB Sean Considine and OL Marshal Yanda won Super Bowl rings

The Hawkeyes have played 50 consecuve games withouta missed or blocked PAT, the longest streak of any school
in the naon. Iowa has converted on 147 consecuve PATs
during the streak.
GLANCE AT THE SCHEDULE
Northwestern is one of four Hawkeye opponents to have
a bye week prior to their game against Iowa (Maryland,
Northwestern, Minnesota, and Illinois). Iowa was also idle
prior to the Northwestern game.
The Hawkeyes defeated Purdue in their Big Ten opener
on Sept. 27. It marked the 12th me in Kirk Ferentz 16
years at Iowa that the Hawkeyes opened the conferenceseason on the road.
Iowa plays only two games during the month of October.
The Hawkeyes do not face Big Ten opponents Michigan,
Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Rutgers.
Iowa has four trophy games on its schedule in 2014: Iowa
State (Cy-Hawk), Minnesota (Floyd of Rosedale), Wisconsin
(Heartland), and Nebraska (Heroes). Iowa lost possession
of the Cy-Hawk Trophy following a 20-17 loss to Iowa State

2 GAMES FOR THE RECORD BOOK
QB Jake Rudock passed for more yards (572) through the
rst two games of the season than any quarterback in pro
gram history. His compleons (64) and aempts (93) were
also more than any other quarterback through two games.
As a team, Iowas 592 passing yards (66-of-96) were the
most through two games since 1985 when Chuck Longand Marc Vlasic threw for a combined 671 yards (44-of-74
against Drake and Northern Illinois.
Iowas 55 passes in Week 2 against Ball State marked the
highest number of pass aempts for an Iowa team under
Kirk Ferentz since the 2006 Outback Bowl (55 vs. Florida)
Iowas 35 compleons against Ball State were the second
most under Kirk Ferentz (36 vs. Indiana in 1999).
ALL ABOARD TO KINNICK STADIUM!
The Hawkeye Express, the engine and club cars that trans
port fans from Coralville to Kinnick Stadium, is available fo
those fans traveling to Kinnick Stadium on Saturday. TheHawkeye Express is in its 11th season. Adults can ride the
train for $12, while children (12-and-under) ride for free

Free parking is located in lots near the Comfort Suites

FERENTZ THIRD IN LONGEVITY
Kirk Ferentz is in his 16th season as Iowas head footbal
coach and ranks third in longevity among FBS head coaches
Ferentz is rst among Big Ten coaches and naonally ranks
behind Virginia Techs Frank Beamer and Larry Blakeney of
Troy. Blakeny will rere at the end of the season. Ferentz is
ed for third with Bob Stoops of Oklahoma.
IOWA WILL RECEIVE
Iowa has received the opening kicko in 6-of-7 game this
season. In 16 seasons as Iowas head coach, Kirk Ferentzand the Hawkeye received the opening kicko in 156-of-194
games (93-63). Iowa has started the game on defense in 38-

IOWA PROGRAM NOTES
Iowa has 102 wins since 2002. Only 23 programs across
the country have 100 or more wins since the start of the
2002 season.
Iowa earned Big Ten Conference championships in 2002
and 2004 and placed second in 2009. Iowa (8-0, 2002)
is one of three Big Ten teams to post a perfect mark inconference play since 1998 (BCS era).
Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the nal Associated Press
and CNN/USA Today coaches polls in four of the past 11
seasons, including a ranking of seventh in both polls at
the conclusion of the 2009 season. Iowa ranked eighth
in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and the Hawkeyes were also 20th
in 2008.
Iowa established a school record with 11 wins in 2002
(11-2) and matched that record in 2009. In 2009, Iowa
started 9-0 and won 10 regular season games for just the
fourth me in school history. Iowa won 10 or more games in three consecuve years
(2002-04) for the rst me in school history.
Kirk Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year
three mes (2002, 2004 & 2009) and he was named Na -
onal Coach of the Year in 2002. Ferentz joins Michigans
Bo Schembechler (four), Iowas Hayden Fry (three) and
Penn States Joe Paterno (three) as the only coaches to
be honored in more than two seasons.
Iowa has had naonal award winners in: Robert Gallery
(2003 Outland, Top Lineman); Brad Banks (2002 Davey
OBrien, Top Quarterback; 2002 Associated Press Na-
onal Player of the Year); Dallas Clark (2002 Mackey, TopTight End); Nate Kaeding (2002 Groza, Top Kicker); Shonn
Greene (2008 Doak Walker, Top Running Back).
Iowa has appeared in the nal Associated Press poll 22
mes in program history, a total that ranks 25th-best in
the country.
Iowas football record in the 2000 decade was 80-45 (.640),
a record that ranks as the best decade in Iowa football his-
tory, based on total wins. Iowa posted a record of 77-40-4
(.652) during the 1980s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2
(.538) in the 1990s.
Part of the Hawkeyes long term success is due to the sta-
bility in the program. Iowa has had just two head coaches
since 1979. Hayden Fry took over prior to the 1979 season
and coached through the 1998 season, posng a record of
143-89-6. Current coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry, lead-
ing the program for the last 15-plus seasons. Ferentz also
served as Iowas oensive line coach from 1981-89 under
Fry.
Iowa fans are known for their support of Hawkeye ath-
lecs, and the aendance gures from 2012-13 support
that claim. Iowa was one of four programs in the naon to

rank among the top 25 in aendance for football, mens
basketball and womens basketball events in 2013-14. In
addion, Iowa was the only program in the naon to rank
among the top 25 in aendance a year ago in football,
mens basketball, womens basketball, and wrestling. Iowa
sold an esmated 11,000 ckets to the 2014 Outback
Bowl, with more than 15,000 Hawkeye fans aendingthe game in Tampa. Iowa sold 95-percent of it bowl game
cket allotment, the highest percentage of any bowl team

Iowa has appeared in 27 bowl games with a record of 14-
12-1 (.537). The Hawkeyes have competed in the Rose (ve
mes), Outback (four), Alamo (four), Holiday (three), Orange
(two), Peach (two), Sun (two), Insight (two), and the Capita
One, Gator and Freedom bowls once.
Iowa has been bowl eligible 12 of the last 13 seasons unde
head coach Kirk Ferentz and his sta. Iowa ranks third in Big Ten bowl appearances. Ohio State
and Michigan have received a conference-best 42 bow
bids, followed by the Hawkeyes (27) and Wisconsin (24)
All four schools were bowl-eligible in 2013.

363-25 (.455) mark in Big Ten games and a 168-175-15 (.601
record in Kinnick Stadium.

ANF WALL OF HONOR
University of Iowa All-American Bruce Nelson will be
honored at Saturdays Iowa-Northwestern football game as
this years inductee into the America Needs Farmers Wall of
Honor. Nelson, who currently farms in his hometown of Em-
mesburg, Iowa, will be introduced on the playing between
the rst and second quarter of Saturdays game.Nelson earned rst-team All-America honors as a senior in
2002, starng all 13 games at center as the Hawkeyes posted
a perfect 8-0 Big Ten record and earned an invitaon to the
2003 Orange Bowl, the rst BCS bowl appearance for Iowa
football.
The ANF Wall of Honor recognizes student-athletes in the
sport of football at the UI who exemplify the tenacity, work
ethic, and character of the America farmer. The ANF Plaza
is located in the northwest corner of the Kinnick Stadium
concourse. Previous honorees include Casey Wiegmann
(2012) and Jared DeVries (2013).
