Cheetahs are large, spotted cats that live in Africa's grasslands. They are the fastest of all the land animals. Their speeds can top 70 miles per hour. Although they are fast, cheetahs can not maintain that speed for more than 100 yards at a time. The name cheetah comes from an Indian word meaning spotted one. Text/Audio Narration: Narrator says, Read along silently as I read aloud. Summer Vacation The first thing Paula did on her summer vacation was take a swimming class at the pool. Paula got a medal at the end of her class because she was a good swimmer. Her brother, Max, earned a medal, too. The best part of the class was when the teacher let Paula and Max jump off the diving board. Paula and Max had a great time at their swimming class. Another thing Paula liked was going to the zoo. She and her family stayed all day and saw all kinds of animals. They saw a show where the seals did lots of tricks. Paula's favorite animals at the zoo were the monkeys and the elephants. Paula and her family had a great summer day at the zoo. "Can I make our lunch?" "That would be delightful," said Bill's mother. "I will sit at the table in case you need help." Bill got two plates. He put a slice of bread on each plate. Then he put the cheese on the bread. "What else can we eat?" Bill asked. "Some fruit would be delicious," his mother said. Bill thought apples tasted good, too. So he washed two apples. He put an apple on each plate. Then Bill poured milk in two glasses. And he got them each a napkin. He gave his mother a yellow napkin and he took a blue one. "Lunch is ready!" Bill said. He put the plates on the table. "This looks good, Bill!" said Bill's mother. "You are a very good cook!" Cocoa For my seventh birthday, I got a puppy as a surprise. I was so excited! My Mom and Dad gave him to me. I loved him the moment I saw him. I decided to name him Cocoa because he was brown. One day, Cocoa and I were playing outside. I went inside to get Cocoa a treat, and when I came back Cocoa was gone! I couldn't find him. I was so scared. I ran inside and told my Mom. She smiled and told me to look in the kitchen. There was Cocoa. He had followed me inside! I was so happy to see Cocoa, and Cocoa was happy to get his treat. After they do themn they will click and the correct answer will appear.. Ralph and Sammy Snowman Sammy and Ralph were snowmen. Sammy was Ralphs cousin. Sammy was a very proper little snowman and Ralph was a rebel. Ralph always wanted to do things differently, while Sammy always wanted to do what he was supposed to do. Because Ralph wanted to be different, he wore sunglasses, a yellow, flowered tourist hat and a bright blue shirt. He also carried a briefcase. Sammy wore a blue top hat, a striped scarf and carried a shovel. Ralph did have one traditional snowman characteristic that was the same as Sammy's, however! Like all snowmen, he had a handsome, orange carrot nose! One day Ralph decided to pack his suitcase full of snowballs. His cousin, Sammy, told him not to. He told Ralph that all the snowballs would melt and ruin his suitcase. Ralph didn't listen! He packed his suitcase full of snowballs and they all melted. Water started to leak out of his suitcase!
