One of the most spectacular sales was that of land in the Huleh Valley.The reclamation concession was held by Salim Salaam, who had sold itto the Zionists in 1934. His son Saeb Salaam continued this familypolicy, assuming a political position in order to facilitate the sale ofthree family-owned villages on the extreme south of Lebanon to theJews. 15. The economic side was further exploited during the war period for thesmugglingof contraband, especially diamonds and gold, later also weapons between Beirut, Haifa and Tel Aviv. Palestinians, Jews and Lebanesemade use of the already existing trade route between Damascus andCairo, running through Lebanon and Palestine. Merchandise intendedfor the Jews in Palestine, including clandestine mail, was carried by aJewish transport agency on the coastal route through Sidon and Tyreand brought into Palestine via Alma al-Shaab, passing through the handsof Amnoun, the Jewish Mukhtar of Hanouta. 11. Mohammed Ali Hamada was the Consul General of Lebanon toFrance from 1944-6. From 1946-8 he was the head of political affairsin the Foreign Ministry. From 1948-50 he functioned as the interimSecretary General of the Foreign Ministry.

15. Security Council resolution 62 (S/1080) of 16 November 1948 calls forthe establishment of an armistice in all sectors of Palestine in order toeliminate the threat to peace. Further, it calls upon all parties involvedin the conflict to conduct negotiations resulting in the withdrawal andreduction of armed forces in such a way as will ensure the maintenanceof the armistice.

In 1960, he was appointedambassador to France .

since his youth. He was the co-founder of the Istiqlal party in Damascusunder Amir Feisal's rule. However, despite his pan-Arab views he hadcontacts with the Zionist leadership in the 1920s. In fact, in 1921 hetried to persuade Palestinian leaders to accept Britain's Zionist policy.

From 1943-5 and again from 1946-51 he was Lebanon's prime minister. In 1951 he was assassinated in Amman, Jordan because he was infavour of settlement with the French.
