Removal
Note!If the car is equipped with Four-C (Continuously
Controlled Chassis Concept), replace the spring.
See:Spring front, replacement.
Removing the spring strut
Remove:
the wheel
the anti-roll bar
link from the spring strut.
Note!Use a Torx wrench
as a counterhold so
that the boot is not
damaged.
Remove the ABS line from
the bracket on the
spring strut.
Measure the spring strut position in relation to the wheel
spindle before removal
Note!The
measurements are
taken so that the same
camber angle can be
obtained when
installing.
Measure across the
wheel
spindle/spring strut
at the upper screw
as illustrated
Before measuring,
clean off any dirt
from the measuring
surfaces
Note the
measurement.
Removing the spring strut
Remove both the
nuts from the
screws in the
springstrut - wheel
spindle.
Remove the two screws for the spring strut wheel
spindle.
Secure the wheel spindle with a piece of wire so
that it cannot turn outwards when removed from
the spring strut.
Remove:
the three nuts
holding
the shock absorber
support plate in the
bodywork the spring strut.
Removing the shock absorber bearing
Secure the spring strut in
a vise.
Remove:
the nut for
the shock absorber
bearing. Use
socket999 5467and
a 3/8" Torx-wrench
as a counterhold.
the washer the support.
Removing the spring
Relieve the load on the
spring seat using hydraulic
tool 951 2911together
with plates 951 2914.
Remove:
the fixing nut on
the shock absorber.
Use socket 999
5469and a 3/8"
Torx-wrench as a
counterhold.
the spring seat
the spring
the rubber bump stop and gaiter.
Check that
the shock absorber
support plate (1), the
spring seat (2) and the
rubber bump stop with
boot (3) are undamaged.
Replace if necessary.
Installation
Note!For tightening torques, see Tightening torque
Installing the spring
Compress the new spring
to a length of
approximately 260 mm.
Use hydraulic tool 951
2911together with
plates 951 2914.
Install:
the bump stop with
the boot
the spring the spring seat.
Install the fixing nut.
Tighten. See Tightening
torque. Use socket 999
5469and a 3/8" Torx-
wrench as a counterhold.
Installing the shock absorber bearing
Install:
the support plate
the washer
the nut, Tighten
to Tightening
torque. Use
socket999 5467and
a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
Installing the spring strut
Install the spring strut in
the bodywork using new
nuts. Tighten.
See Tightening torque.
Install the
spring strut on the
wheel spindle. Use
new screws and
new nuts
Adjust the
spring strut and
wheel spindle to
the measured value.
Note!Ensure that
measurement is
performed at same
points as when
removing.
Tighten, see: Tightening
torque. Use protractor 951
2050.
Install:
the anti-roll bar link
to the spring strut.
Use a new nut.
Tighten.
See: Tightening
torque.
Counterhold using a
Torx wrench to
prevent damage to the boot.
The ABS sensor
cable in the bracket
the wheel.
