STEM Day

This week, Cardinal Newman welcomed back the Smallpeice Trust to lead a STEM Day (Science, Technology,

Engineering and Maths) for a group of Year 9 students. This gave the students an opportunity to work

together in teams to solve an engineering challenge they were presented with. Their main task for the day

Year 10 Football - Coventry Schools’ Cup

Cardinal Newman vs Ernesford Grange

On 28 March Newman cruised into the semi final of the Coventry Schools’ Cup with an emphatic win over Ernesford Grange.

First half goals from Tim Yonas, Owen Wassall, T J Lilley and two from Daniel Lafferty put Newman 5-0 up.

After the break two more goals for T J Lilley saw him complete his hat trick and four goals from Daniel Lafferty saw him

complete a double hat trick. Ernesford did score a goal from the penalty spot as Newman won 11-1.

Newman went on to face Bishop Ullathorne in the semi final.

Cardinal Newman vs Bishop Ullathorne

Ullathorne started the match brightly and deservedly took an early lead. This seemed to wake Newman up and goals from Daniel Lafferty and

Tresor Rudasingwa put Newman 2-1 up. However, Ullathorne pulled a goal back to see the teams go in 2-2 at the break.

Newman started the second half superbly and two quick fire goals from Tresor Rudasingwa saw him complete his hat trick and put Newman 4-2 up.

It stayed this way until a frantic last 10 minutes when Ullathorne levelled the score with two quick goals, seemingly sending the match into extra

time. However, with two minutes to go, Newman broke and Daniel Lafferty fired home and put Newman in the final with a 5-4 victory.

The final takes place on 25 April at Coventry Sporting FC.

Mr R Campbell, Team Manager

Year 7 Football

On Wednesday afternoon the Year 7 football team won their match

against Caludon Castle to reach the final of the Coventry Schools’ Cup in

their first year. A dominant display from Newman was rewarded with a

goal from Antonio Cristofaro. Caludon Castle played better in the

second half and equalised towards the end.

The match went to penalties and a miss followed by a save from Zach

Hedge meant that victory went to Newman.

The final will be on Tuesday 25th. Good luck in the final Year 7.

Year 8 Netball

The Coventry Schools’ league was as close as ever this

year in the under 13's category. Year 8 just missed out

on winning the league, with only goal difference splitting

1st and 2nd place.

All other year groups did fantastically and we are currently awaiting

the official results from those leagues. Well done for your

commitment this year, next stop... rounders!

Lenten Fundraising

It has been a very busy half term

here at Cardinal Newman

School and even now we are

still holding charity events

on the very last day to try

and raise as much as possi-

ble for our chosen

charities.

challenges, Cake Sales, 20p Smarties Tubes, Sponsored spells,

silences and walks, chocolate raffles and Easter Eggs, money is still

coming in and today we will be having our 'Walk for Water' relay!

Once again we would like to thank all of our students, parents and

staff for their generous support of all of our activities over the last

four weeks and look forward to being able to share all of the totals

with you in the first newsletter after Easter.

Newman Fact of the Week

In 1879, Pope Leo XIII made John Henry Newman a Cardinal in

tribute to his extraordinary work and devotion. At his death in

1890, it was said that he had done more than any other person

to change the attitude of non-Catholics to Catholics.

Easter Prayer

Lord of life

We pray for all who bring your word of life

As a light to those in darkness

For those who bring your word of peace

To those enslaved by fear

For those who bring your word of love

To those in need of comfort

Lord of love and Lord of peace

Lord of resurrection life

Be known

Through our lives

and through your power

Christ the Lord is risen to-day

Alleluia!

Musical Excellence

Congratulations to Caelan Corkery who has

had a busy ‘performing’ half term. After a very

successful lead role in the school musical she

received a stunning Classical Guitar Grade 2 result of

92% graded at a Distinction.

Well done Caelan!
