Lots is happening ! We have a new pastor. Pastor Rod Krueger and family—wife Gretchen, son Ben and daughters Bethany and Joanna—are here at Bethany and Kaukauna. They arrived the week before the Installation Service on the 30th of August and are settled into a temporary home, waiting for the closing on their permanent home in mid-September. It will take some time for members to get to know the family but even longer for the Kruegers to get to know us.
Fall is typically the time we look for willing volunteers for our leadership positions at Bethany. The Lord is calling members to step up at this crucial time to lead our congregation. We need nominations in November for the Church Council positions of Vice President, Elder, and Director of Evangelism. It is essential for us to grow with a new pastor by having faithful members in leadership positions to support the ministry at Bethany. Please consider one of these positions, the church council will support you in every way to help us grow our ministry at Bethany. You are welcome to contact me anytime if interested or have a question about a position.
Church Council and Board of Family Ministries have the following update for our Sunday School and Youth programs: Sunday School in-person classes
on hold. After reviewing the current
public health situation, the church council has decided to put in-person Sunday School classes on hold. We will have Sunday School resources available on Bethanykaukauna.org for families to use at home. Another announcement will be made when these resources are available (likely mid-September). We will look to start in-person Sunday School classes when the public health situation improves and the church council feels it is safe to do so. If you are interested in your child (age 3 through 6th grade) attending in-person classes at a later time, please email [email protected]. We are also still in need of teachers and support staff for Sunday School. If interested in serving in our Sunday School program, please email [email protected].

Welcome Rev. Rod Matthew Krueger!
Pastor Rod was born on January 21, 1975 in Morris, Minnesota to Ray and Theresa Krueger. He is the second of four
children (Todd, Rod, April, and Angela). Growing up, Pastor Rod lived in various places including St. Paul, Minnesota,
Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Crown Point, Indiana, Naperville, Illinois, Hagerstown, Maryland, and Charlotte, North Carolina. The
family moved a number of times as Pastor Rod’s dad, Ray, was promoted to different positions at Roadway Express and
Roadway Package System Inc.
After graduating high school in 1993, Pastor Rod attended Concordia University-River Forest, IL where he pursued a
degree in Elementary Education with a Director of Christian Education certificate. While at Concordia, he met his wife,
Gretchen, who was studying to become a deaconess. They were married August 15, 1998 in Gretchen’s hometown of Kansas
City, Missouri.
In the fall of 1998 Gretchen began her deaconess internship, serving at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Austin
neighborhood on the west side of Chicago. At the same time, Pastor Rod was serving as Director of Christian Education at St.
Paul Lutheran Church in Norwood Park. In March of 2001 Rod and Gretchen were blessed with the birth of their first child,
Marissa. In the summer of 2002 after many conversations and prayerful consideration Rod, Gretchen, and Marissa moved to
St. Louis so that Rod could attend Concordia Seminary.
After two years at the seminary, Pastor Rod’s dad, Ray, enrolled at the seminary and came to live with them in order
to take summer Greek at the seminary. Late in the summer of 2004 Rod, Gretchen, and Marissa moved to Sedalia, Missouri
so that Pastor Rod could begin his vicarage at Our Savior Lutheran Church. While on vicarage, son Benjamin was born on
January 24, 2005.
The family returned to Concordia following vicarage in the summer of 2005 so Rod could complete his seminary
education. In the summer of 2006, Rod graduated and accepted a call to serve as Assistant Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church
in New York Mills, Minnesota. While serving there daughter Bethany was born on October 23, 2006, and daughter Joanna
was born on May 18, 2009. Upon returning to Illinois to serve at St. John Lutheran Church in Island Lake, Gretchen returned
to school to become a CNA and then an LPN. After moving to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Prospect Heights, Pastor
Rod and Gretchen were blessed with the birth of their first grandchild, Asuna (a’-soo-na) on June 15, 2019.
Pastor Rod looks forward to the opportunity to serve as Bethany’s next pastor. He and his family look forward to
being a part Bethany’s church family and the community of Kaukauna.
