February 2020 Note from the Chair Dear IEEE SIGHT volunteers, It’s been an exciting start to the year and I am thrilled with our energetic Committee and volunteer leader team in 2020. This year we are creating special working groups to continue growing the SIGHT program in new directions. One group is “Women in SIGHT,” which will be chaired by Celia Shahnaz from IEEE Bangladesh Section. Celia is a long-time IEEE volunteer, and has been extensively involved with both IEEE SIGHT and IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) for many years. I am thankful to have such an experienced leader to launch this novel initiative, and determine innovative ways in which SIGHT can support its women leaders and members. Another working group is “Africa Initiatives,” chaired by Lwanga Herbert from IEEE Uganda Section. Lwanga is uniquely qualified to lead this working group, given his experience as an IEEE volunteer, IEEE SIGHT Group Chair, and IEEE SIGHT project team leader. He was also the recipient of the 2019 SIGHT Volunteer of the Year Award. His team will be working on strategic initiatives to strengthen the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) & SIGHT’s work in Africa. This year’s vision for the SIGHT program is focused on sustaining last year’s record-breaking growth in terms of projects funded, SIGHT groups

Of course, continuing to strengthen the existing relationships with IEEEentities is a high priority for 2020 as well. If you will be attending, we invite you to attenda presentation or stop by the HAC & SIGHT table to say hello.
